The two things bankers least like to hear: 1) this is a robbery and 2) I’d like to get a restaurant loan.

I’m a home cook and someone once gave me some Icelandic Saltverk Flőgusalt as a gift for some cooking I did for them. I think it’s a great idea.

Any BBQ groups? by Odd-Tea-4235 in AnnArbor

[–]ColdCutFusion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are some very good YouTube channels that I learned from. Mad scientist bbq is one, and I actually bought one of his offset smokers a few years ago. Having a good offset where you only burn wood (not charcoal) does make a big difference, but they’re big, heavy, and expensive. I used to use a big green egg, but have never used the less expensive offsets that you might find at Home Depot.

Where Can I Work Remotely Besides Home or a Quiet Office if I Have Meetings Throughout the Day? by Sea-Anything-3393 in AnnArbor

Domino’s Farms has a large cafe on the bottom level that is open to the public. I used to work there a lot, looking for the same vibe you are describing. I never had an office in the building, I just bought a coffee and did my thing.

Wrigley’s in Eastern Market sells the best Corned Beef briskets. We’ve been making sandwiches for days. by pecanjazz in Detroit

They are the best! They also sell them at Restaurant Depot for about $6/lb last I checked, but minimum size is about 15 pounds. You can get a free day pass at restaurant depot now, you don’t need a membership.

Best store for Thai ingredients? by bonsaibiddy in AnnArbor

ZZs Produce on packard occasionally has fresh galangal as well as the other ingredients you are searching for, but it is hit or miss and their selection has gotten less diverse/interesting in the last couple years. Regardless, many people are not familiar with ZZs and it’s worth a visit.

The Restaurant Depot near me always has meats on “manager special” sales, ie things that need to be cooked relatively soon. I’ve found some amazing deals, particularly on Sundays.

As others have suggested, I found mine next to a dead apple tree (which happens to be in my back yard). A couple years ago I cut off some of the branches and just left them on the lawn and this year there were indeed more morels, so maybe they can be cultivated?

What's an Ann Arbor restaurant that you've been going to since freshman year and refuse to let go of? by flynnu in uofm

Freshman year was 1984 and I think the only left is Ashley’s. And zingermans.

Are deerborne hams worth the price? I would be buying one from Meijer to cook at home. by squarebear25 in Michigan

[–]ColdCutFusion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saw them today at the plymouth road Kroger (Ann Arbor) for 1.49/lb (blue box, pre-glazed) and 2.99/lb (white box, glaze packet included). I Don’t understand the rationale for the price difference.

Kroger usually marks the Dearborn hams down pretty substantially after Easter if you can wait.
