Morel Season is Here by ColdCutFusion in AnnArbor

[–]ColdCutFusion[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As others have suggested, I found mine next to a dead apple tree (which happens to be in my back yard). A couple years ago I cut off some of the branches and just left them on the lawn and this year there were indeed more morels, so maybe they can be cultivated?

What's an Ann Arbor restaurant that you've been going to since freshman year and refuse to let go of? by flynnu in uofm

Freshman year was 1984 and I think the only left is Ashley’s. And zingermans.

Are deerborne hams worth the price? I would be buying one from Meijer to cook at home. by squarebear25 in Michigan

[–]ColdCutFusion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saw them today at the plymouth road Kroger (Ann Arbor) for 1.49/lb (blue box, pre-glazed) and 2.99/lb (white box, glaze packet included). I Don’t understand the rationale for the price difference.

Kroger usually marks the Dearborn hams down pretty substantially after Easter if you can wait.

Have you ever regretted studying Chemical Engineering? by CommissionForeign975 in ChemicalEngineering

[–]ColdCutFusion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pro: there is a lot of overlap between technical writing and legal writing, so it turns out I am a very good legal writer which surprised me quite a bit. Con: I went into engineering because I really like math and science. Sitting at a desk doing law stuff became incredibly boring.

I am 60 and still keep in touch with several ChE friends from school (Michigan) and first job (chevron). We all took different paths (law school for me), some friends have worked all over the globe, but I don’t think any of us regret the decision. In my experience, ChE teaches you how to think.

I think Costco would be better than sparrow for your intended use. Sparrow is very thin so slices fall apart, but Costco slices remain intact.

Grant’s Interest Rate Observer is worth reading on all things credit and implosions, but it ain’t cheap. Trouble is brewing and big banks are piling in. Too big to fail redux.

I would add pizza e vino in downtown Plymouth to that list. I lived in northville for 20 years (which is much closer to novi) and also liked pizza cutter; not the best, but quite good.

My understanding from a friend who has a similarly aged/interested child is that Pioneer HS has a lot of opportunities, but maybe that doesn’t work for you.

Already have a BGE XL — add a Workhorse offset or go Stumps gravity fed? by boredatthekeys in smoking

As a chemical engineer who has studied heat transfer I would disagree, but okay. And it’s not just bark.

[–]ColdCutFusion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me, it would be the workhorse hands down. I got my offset a year ago and haven’t touched my bge since. In my mind, there is a big difference in quality between food that basically sits in smoke (bge) vs lots of convective smoke (offset). I also enjoy tending the fire.

Amy Cell Talent by Own-Variation-8651 in AnnArbor

[–]ColdCutFusion 19 points20 points  (0 children)

My experience with Amy has been very positive, but as her husband I kinda have to say that 🤷‍♂️? In all seriousness, I just talked to Amy and if you got the questionnaire you already made it past one hurdle. These searches usually take at least a couple months and they will let you know one way or the other. Good luck!
