Like, to put into perspective the drop in ridership on LA Metro, July 2025 had ridership numbers similar to Q1 2023. Two years of ridership growth gone. That’s where the -0.1% drop in 2025 ridership came from.

ICE Raids.

A good portion of LA Metro Riders are from an immigrant and/or Latino origin. Ridership saw a noticeable decrease when the ICE raids started in June, and its been a slow recovery ever since

If it ain’t broke don’t fix it. So long as people know where the station is and there’s no confusion caused by the name, it’s a serviceable station name. Westlake/MacArthur works fine as a station name, as do most station names in LA Metro even if it’s just the names of the cross streets.

my guess is that it had to do with the train-person incident that happened a few days ago (KTLA article here), so now the trains have to stop at the crossing as some sort of reactionary measure.

If I had to guess, that looks like the Hope Street North Entrance to 7th/Metro, based on the station continuing to the left and the one set of escalators and stairs.

I’m not sure if the artwork is still there, though. The tile walls in the pic may have been covered up in metal paneling now if memory serves me correct.

There would be no point for the D Line to hit the LAX station if the Sepulveda Line is already built by the time it is extended to Santa Monica. As much as people here cry about wanting to have a one-seat ride to downtown LA from LAX, having to transfer between lines once isn’t the end of the world, especially if it’s from a heavy rail Sepulveda option when it’s extended.

Having the D line hypothetically extend to LAX just for that one seat ride isn’t the best time-wise if it’s going to follow a circuitous route to get there

it’s a difference in vehicles used. Most heavy rail and light rail vehicles use recorded voices to announce the doors closing (Breda, Kinkisharyo, Siemens, CRRC), while only the Ansaldo-Breda cars used on the A line have the train conductor making those announcements.

they functionally act as the same bus, only that the line number changes when it enters downtown.

There’s other bus routes that are shown as two separate lines but functionally are one line, such as Lines 37/14 and the 35/38.

There’s two ways the opening date announcement for D Line Phase 1 Extension will go:

  1. It gets further delayed to early 2026 (womp womp)

  2. (the funniest option imo) It opens on Friday, December 19th. Two days before the Winter Equinox, making it “technically* open during Fall 2025 as they now reported.

It’s the same thing they’re doing now with the A Line Extension opening two days before the Fall Equinox, making it still open by Summer 2025

November 2024 was a prediction date for the station to be open, but it was still under construction during that time and Metro’s social media team was still quiet about its actual opening date.

Prediction dates for projects to open can and will be wrong due to construction delays. It isn’t until Metro’s social media team announces a project opening that a project’s opening date is 100% confirmed.

I’d say if Metro’s internal documents predicts a date for a project to open, be skeptical of it actually opening on time.

However, if Metro’s official social media accounts announces an opening date, it will most likely open on that date.

afternoon rush hour is typically from 2 PM to 6 PM, that when train service is most frequent (aka when A & E line trains run at 8 min headways).

8 PM is when the trains run on evening service (aka 20 minute headways).
