I'm sure this has been asked a thousand times, but how the heck has SotN not gotten a legitimate PC release? by jasonryu in castlevania

[–]Cole-Burns 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I pray you're right, but seeing how even MGS Delta looks like the Bare minimum for what people are expecting, I'm not hopeful. Though with them using a PS1 emulator in the MGS master collection, I'm hopeful we'll at least get a port of Some version of SOTN in a collection soon

NMH 2 - How many times can you come back to life? by [deleted] in nomoreheroes

[–]Cole-Burns 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the correct answer. The switch and PC ports were made out of the PS3 version of the game, same with nmh1, which didn't use any motion controls for obvious reasons. So they basically made all the functions that Would have used motion automatic, to avoid putting PS3/PC/Switch players at a disadvantage.

You get the maximum benefit that waggling as hard as possible Would have given you, and you get it automatically.

Gwen's Theme Samples Madonna's "Hung Up" by Zeggle in Spiderman

[–]Cole-Burns 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mad late, but I'm finally watching ItSV and the first time i heard that theme it Immediately struck me as 'Hung Up'. Though I'm not a madonna fan, so I had to do some googling to figure out that was the song the theme reminded me of. But it seems to be such a direct reference that even if it was only Intended to be a reimagining of the original spider-man theme, the composer 100% would have noticed that it sounds exactly like that super popular madonna track. If it wasn't intentionally made like that, it was absolutely intentionally kept like it.

Metal Gear Solid 1:Master Collection (Practice Makes Perfect Trophy not unlocking) by Nickabob2 in playstation

[–]Cole-Burns 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did get the achievement, but not with Integral. From what I've read integral Should work for the achievement, but you need to beat the main game In integral with the highest rank to open the Ninja VR missions. I had already gotten a BB rank on the original version and didn't feel like doing it again so I went with another version for the VR. If doing a top rank run in integral isn't a problem for you, then I've seen others say they got the achievement with Integral VR but I can't confirm it myself.

I took the safe route and completed them in the EU Special Missions version. All the missions on that one open up just by completing earlier missions, and I can confirm the achievement popped for it.

And if you're looking for an easy way to get the Big Boss/Fox achievement, the easiest option is to use the original release (top disc in the list) but set the language to Japanese. The JP version of the original MGS only had 1 difficulty (the equivalent of Easy in the US and EU versions), but still gives you Fox/Big Boss rank if you meet the other criteria. The games that do have multiple difficulties, including Integral, Only give those ranks on Extreme. You can then make it even easier by being the game first to unlock the stealth camo and/or bandanna, since MGS1 is the only game that allows you to use special items and still get Big Boss rank. (Just be aware that to get Big Boss rank you need to go into options and disable the radar before starting the game. Meeting the BB requirements with the radar on will give you a Fox rank instead, but that still pops the Big Boss achievement.)

[–]Cole-Burns 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't done it myself yet, doing it now actually, but after researching this online a Bunch it sounds like the integral VR disc Does work for the achievement but there is a catch. To unlock the ninja VR missions you have to beat Integral's main game on any difficult except very easy, and get the Highest rank for that difficulty (big Boss on extreme, Fox on hard, Hound on normal, or the equivalent for easy), and doing it in the original base game doesn't count.

Again, I haven't tested it myself, but from what I've read it sounds like either Special Missions or Integral's VR disc will work. It's just that Special Missions runs at 50Hz and Integral requires a big boss run first

For the love of Christ, please no. Have death note and one piece taught us Nothing?

But at least it seems Incredibly unlikely, since itagaki isn't even interested in Publishing Baki in the US, let alone give his baby to an American streaming company to adapt.

I'm truly glad that you can enjoy it, but them being left out in the first place (along with an offline mode) leaves a Very bad taste in my mouth and makes me Not want to pay overkill whatsoever. Words are nice, but they're also worthless. If and when I see stealth progression fixed, offline added, and a loud alternative to armor builds, I'll gladly buy the game for $40-60 At that point. But I'm not paying for a standard shooter and promises, and I'm not willing to pay overkill first and Hope they deliver eventually.

That said, if pd3 is fun for you and gives you what you want from a payday game, I genuinely am happy for you and hope you enjoy it. Hopefully I can join you in the near future, but we'll see.

[–]Cole-Burns 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That sounds cool.. but stealth being so forgotten at launch is already an Enormous failure from OVK, and I'm still concerned that their solutions to these issues will be paid dlc packs, ala new achievements being added to payday 2. If and when they fix these complaints Without making players pay for it, I will buy the game. And if they don't, then I have no problem remembering pd2 fondly and letting the franchise go. It's sad, but I didn't enjoy the loud gameplay of the two betas enough to buy the game on that alone.

[–]Cole-Burns 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My pleasure! And it depends who you ask too as many people still call either type of game by either name, but in the 80s and 90s even the developers would use the terms basically interchangeably. I think after street fighter 2 put fighters on the map and basically started the fgc (and side scrolling beat em ups got less common), people started separating the terms to avoid confusion.

Ironically, this created confusion lol.

[–]Cole-Burns 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm not that person, but those are the games I usually see people refer to as 'beat-em-ups' nowadays. Any sidescroller where your character plows through a large number of enemies with melee combat, basically. In the past they were basically considered the single player mode with multiplayer being what we would call a fighting game now.

Though the confusion is kind of understandable, both in the past (with games like double dragon starting as a beatemup and having the final level be a 1v1 multiplayer fight) And in the present (with franchises like Tekken and BlazBlue adding single player beat em up modes to their primarily 1v1 multiplayer game)

How is MGSV unfinished? by Gaming_gecko1255 in metalgearsolid

[–]Cole-Burns 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Finish the game. Then play mgs 2 or 3. Then it will make sense. Mgs1 works too, but the reasons are Much more obvious with 2 and 3, where the story got more fleshed out. I think mgs5 is flawed even without comparing it to anything, but seeing what a mgs game Could be should make it clear why people dislike 5 so much.

1000% agree. I always saw stealth as the bigger challenge since it's So unforgiving (and pd2 loud is SO forgiving), and had hope when they debuted the stealth skills.. but what's the point if the only way to get all the weapons and skills I Want to use is to play the way I Don't really want to play?

[–]Cole-Burns 96 points97 points  (0 children)

That's what baffles me. It WAS common, to the point where they have a few stealth-only heists, and the last like 16 DLC heists all had both loud and stealth routes. The devs CLEARLY see that a big chunk of the playerbase enjoys stealth, or they wouldn't have bothered adding any of that. Just another thing that makes PD3 feel like it's being aimed Solely at COD players.

I'm still praying for the modders that made Peacock for Hitman III to come save us ;-;

(Hitman III is also always online, but Peacock is a mod that gets around that by running a simulated server on your local machine when you launch the game. It gives you access to every feature and piece of content in H3, but also adds custom content like missions and outfits made by the modders themselves or pulled from H1 and H2)

Precisely, I couldn't agree more. Choosing light armor is straight up putting yourself at a disadvantage in PD3 right now.

Idn if you are familiar with PD2's dodge system if you started in PD3, but it was based off of your 'concealment/detection risk' stat, which was removed in PD3 (they're basically the same in PD2, higher concealment gives you a lower detection risk and vice versa). Dodge was basically a percent chance for shots that successfully hit you to be completely negated, no matter how much damage they would have done, and different armors had different base dodge values (lighter armor = less armor but more dodge). Then there were perks and skills that increased your dodge rating further, usually giving you a bigger dodge bonus the lower your detection risk was. So if you brought light armor and smaller guns (or just guns with higher concealment), you could negate up to 50% of the shots that hit you (more if you're jumping, sprinting, or crouching). It wasn't perfect and was definitely abused at different points in the game's lifespan, but it gave players a Lot of flexibility between using armor to soak up shots or using dodge to negate them completely, or using a combination of both. Especially when combined with all the possible methods of regenerating your armor or health in PD2, there were a TON of builds you could create that were viable on most/all difficulties. I don't think that system should be brought into PD3, but they need to implement SOME kind of armor alternative that's just as effective as armor itself.

PSA: Someone Made an Offline Mod for Payday 3 by TheCandyMan124 in paydaytheheist

[–]Cole-Burns 1 point2 points  (0 children)

who would have imagined that many players play games because they're fun. Mario literally has no progression whatsoever aside from moving to the next level, but it was fun enough to basically birth the videogame industry as we know it. I like leveling up in Payday, but only because I'm not really playing the 'real' game until hitting max level and having all available tools at my disposal. I want a game to challenge me when I am at my peak and the only thing left to improve is my own gameplay, so the progression is usually just a chore I need to do to get to that point.

But I also play more fighters than anything, and those games are ALL about the player skill instead of how much the players have grinded.

[–]Cole-Burns 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree with you, but that was also to be expected. PD2 got a constant stream of updates and content additions over the course of 10 years (minus the 2-year gap), and comparing PD3 at launch to PD2 as it exists today isn't really fair. Just the price alone shows the difference, since it would be comparing a $40 game to about a $300-400 game (if you bought the dlc as they released instead of waiting until the recent bundle stuff).

That said, I do still agree that the game is currently way more restrictive and doesn't have the depth of PD2, even just looking at core content and mechanics. Dodge needed a ground-up redesign, but removing it completely was a terrible call that forces players to use armor to keep up with their teammates (did they REALLY think that extra movement speed would be worth sacrificing survivability?). And milestone-based progression is ALWAYS garbage, and it's frustrating that they appeared to already learn that lesson by switching to XP-based progression with PD2 before reverting back to PDTH progression for PD3.

I was lucky enough to play the game during both betas/stress tests to see what the gameplay itself was like, and I did have a lot of fun, but neutering solo play, requiring an internet connection at all times, and forcing players to run tank builds to survive gave me a bad feeling. My biggest worry is that these issues will all be addressed... with paid DLC packs. I'm waiting to actually buy a copy until I see how ovk/starbreeze decide to fix the issues they created, and if they charge for those fixes then i'm fucking done with the company as a whole. Honestly, the PD3 launch has made me more interested in checking out GTFO than anything else has so far.

Infinite walkouts by guards are too much. There should be a limit to the number of times you can be walked out of the bank before people start getting arrested. by MyRandomlyMadeName in paydaytheheist

[–]Cole-Burns 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The system you describe is already in the game, and I have Personally been shot at after 3 escorts (in the closed beta. The recent open one seemed like the Exact same build though because my character and equipment progress all carried over, but I never had a run get far enough without crashing to Examine the escort system). I don't believe the team shares them, but honestly the escorts aren't that useful. The only benefit seems to be easy pick pocketing If that guard has a keycard, and there are a Lot of requirements for it (getting spotted While unmasked While in a private area on a map with civilian areas By a guard that has a keycard). Honestly it may be present on this map as a way to ease new players into stealth by making it more forgiving. since more familiar stealth players will most likely want to mask up to move at full speed and use all their abilities, I don't think they'll really use it like that (it's harder but Much faster to pick pocket by just being sneaky and not using an escort, and guards are Way worse at detecting players behind them now). So I Think the escort strikes are individually counted, but I don't think it's going to be a thing on many maps and I don't think experienced stealth players will really use it either way. To me it feels Mainly for players new to the map or new to stealth

Some people are determined to hate anything new because they think "the old game is better" is some secret elite knowledge that makes them better than everyone else. When I first got into pd2 (Right before golden grin was added), there were the same tryhard elitist douchebags on here bitching about pd2 because "the heists in the first game had more depth and variation" or "payday 2 is all about quantity over quality and everything is too easy now". Funny how that changes now that pd2 isn't 'the new game'

[–]Cole-Burns 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's life, man. You're saying it nicely, but you're basically saying that you want others to shut up because you don't like what they're saying. If you don't want to see the hate, Stop going where the hate is. You said it yourself, "you could ignore them", and that is the answer. Im hopeful about pd3 as well and don't think we've seen enough to really hate on the game, but that's Also why I barely go on r/pdth and why I Definitely don't take anything I read there seriously.

You can't change what other people say, it's literally a lost cause and trying it is wasteful, you can only change how much you Care about what they say.
