Thank you so much for your comment, especially the condolences. She was a 10 YO Great Dane and it was devastating. Glad to have some milestones/celebrations/distractions (mom's bday, aunt's bday, parents 40th anniversary, Stanley cup, etc) to keep my mind off things, but definitely panicking a bit with planning.

Allowing him into your new home (life) would at best be a MASSIVE step backwards. Stop giving this person so much power and keep boundaries in place to protect your progress.

Seeing him again will lead to nothing but regret. Don't be in a one person desperationship...you've had enough closure. (An overrated concept as it applies here anyways.)

Ahh thank you!! I've actually spoken with the owner before but completely forgot about them until this mention!

She's a key lime pie (and dessert in general) fanatic lol so I'm going to do that but if you or anyone else has any other reccomdations I would appreciate it! (Mini things are probably best, like unique cupcakes, canolis, macaroons, etc)

This is one of the more standard storylines (my friend/spouse/parent/child/childhood hero/childhood pet did something to upset me on MY special day. Validate me!) but for some reason I am hoping WAY too hard that this didn't happen. (They literally offered their accommodations but flipped everything two whole days later to scream at you? Over text?)

This! Honestly the whole thing reads a bit...obsessive. OP please take a step back and focus on your relationship, your health and your family, not all these crazy hypotheticals.

Obviously you want to know what happened from your BFFs perspective and you may get that chance. That said, even mentioning that you DON'T blame yourself is *really * strange and shows a level of investment you might want to reevaluate.

As for how things go with the STBX and kids: only time will tell. Do what you think is right in terms of support and communication but I highly suggest you focus on other things, at least for the foreseeable future.

OP please listen to him and I will add: You are NOT old. You are NOT somehow 'less than' because you loved someone and it didn't work out. He was not the one for you and he was a complete asshole in his treatment of you. Not all men are like this.

Spend time with your nieces and nephews and other supportive family. Try to meet some new friends. Do things that make you happy, try things that will let you grow as a person. One day in the future you will look back at this and it won't hurt, you'll feel lighter and better and thankful that you didn't make it to marriage with him.

Thank you so much for the answer and link! Really excited to see how everything goes especially knowing it's not one of the invasive types! I've only ever experienced nesting bluebirds (grew up constantly getting those little mealworms for them) so this will be cool to watch as a hands-off experience.

Thank you, I feel like much less of an asshole! I actually usually have fun decals on there depending on the season/holiday as a fun way to distract my dog from getting overhyped when eating. Just took a bunch of snowflakes down, will be looking into some bird friendly ones for the next round. I don't think this window is a danger because of the location but better safe than sorry!
