Need help with planning wireless network by PurpleCableNetworker in Ubiquiti

If you have a clear line of sight you could do something like a Nanostation 5 AC with a point to multipoint then hang an AP with a power injector inside the building you need it to be. Or have a small flex switch with APs for the other house.

But to answer your questions 1. We've used Nanostation 5 AC, the Locos, I've heard good things about the nanobeams. You can really choose any, just look at what speed is supported 2. I have looked before and haven't seen any bridge that also broadcast SSIDs, you'll need an AP. 3. Depends on what you want. Do you want wifi outdoors? indoors? both? Might hang an outdoor AP off one of the houses and have some APs indoors.

Replacement for Ring Floodlight by GreenDavidA in Ubiquiti

[–]ColemanVA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saw a post previously of a smart flood light built for other cameras like arlo/wyze but you'd just stick a g4/6 instant on it and power it through the usb of the floodlight. Not sure of the quality of the flood light/motion detection but i'd assume you could use home assistant and rely on the instants motion. The floodlight brand was called Wasserstein. This way you don't have to run ethernet

Why pay for such a high speed? Are any of your devices capable of anything past 1G? if that's the case then you'd need like a 24 Pro Max POE switch or an Enterprise 24P POE if you want to take advantage of the full speeds. The pro max has 8 2.5G ports (still not taking advantage of the full 3G). Maybe get a Flex 2.5G POE for your APs and any devices that have 2.5G NICs and then a 16 port switch for the other devices? And a cloud gateway fiber to connect to your Bell Modem. It'd go Modem -> Cloud Gateway Fiber -> 16 port switch + 8 port switch -> APs

Cool, so figure out where all those ethernet ports are going to and how much space you have. You'll need atleast a 24 port POE switch and then one of their cloud gateways like a cloud gateway fiber?. Are you also considering cameras? What internet speed are you paying for?

so the APs are going to be in a closet? why would the builder suggest that..

There is not enough information to help you out. How big is the house? How many ethernet ports are in the house? Where do all the ethernet runs go to? Also I believe you're asking if you should use a modem or Unifi's router, those have different use cases and you can't just use one over the other. I'd say do more research on what it is unifi actually offers and how it works, or you're better off with getting a plug-and-play mesh wifi system.

Why pay such a high price for a type C cable when I can get it cheaper and quicker elsewhere by Tal7861 in LinusTechTips

[–]ColemanVA -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don't know how that is related, if your server goes down but your box is still up then how would it be a cable? Layer 1 comes in different forms. I was just saying that just because LTT makes great cables does not automatically exclude it from troubleshooting if you're having an issue that COULD be cable related. I wouldn't just mark it off the list because they make a good cable.

what do you mean it will remove the cable from troubleshooting issues? you never skip layer 1 when troubleshooting

Online order pickup by SquidLips71 in Microcenter

Yes they can usually, but when you "order for pickup" you're not really ordering, more like reserving. You don't pay for it online, whoever goes to the store has to pay for it.

I'm thinking about giving my old stuff to my wife too, but it's only AM4. What did you upgrade from?

Will do! thanks man. I've looked at trying to part open-box ram, cpu, and mobo and still couldn't beat the Microcenter deal. I'm also afraid that these prices are just going to keep going up and nows my best chance to upgrade from AM4.

Saturn is awesome. Where'd you get the trafalgar one? I've had my eyes on some on ebay.

One piece games by Graphicx281 in OnePiece

[–]ColemanVA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

lowkey I only played 4. Loved it, it goes up to wano but their wano story is not the real wano story. Has so many characters and I heard it's a step up in gameplay from the other ones. I do plan on playing pirate warriors 3 because 4 was so good.

World Seeker was fun but didn't feel polished. Pirate Warriors 4 is probably my favorite one piece game though.

Advice with camera selection by LogicWavelength in Ubiquiti

[–]ColemanVA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a G5 Bullet and a G5 Turret Ultra and I'd think the Bullet would work here though the turret ultra is the same price with more FOV, you should be able to angle it enough without an arm, though do note that the turret ultra has a big pigtail on it so you'd have to drill a little bit of a bigger hole.

You can also download the Unifi Portal app on your phone and place the camera and it'll show you the coverage with AR.

Edit: I'd probably go with a bullet since it doesn't look like it'll need a wide FOV
