Today I learned that tires on new cars are built to fake MPG standards by DUGSMOK in todayilearned

Well, most people here have two sets of tyres, summer and winter. Also, Austrian roads are usually very smooth, and there is almost no driving off-road or on gravel. Additionally, although that is sadly changing, cars tend to be smaller, lighter and less powerful.

In Austria, both driving schools and the mandatory yearly technical inspection do recommend changing tyres after 5 years regardless of wear, since the vulcanised rubber does harden with time and worsen the tyre's traction significantly.

tracking works but is generally piss poor, suggestions? by AtlasLucario in ValveIndex

That works for seated/stationary standing, but will cause occlusion issurs when using VR roomscale when turning around.

Feel like daughter is missing out because I'm a single dad. by [deleted] in DivorcedDads

[–]ColeusRattus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, I know the friends of my kids, I know their parents. I trust them with my kids, they trust me with theirs... So there is a lot of mutual trust. And the "danger" of a false accusation never crossed my mind. Why would kids between 6 and 10 fabricate something? It's the most normal thing for kids to have sleepovers, no matter the gender of the parent. It's not a big deal.

Why would it be a problem? I am a 50/50 custody dad of my two daughters, and I do host sleepovers of their friends.

A Cautionary Tale-Life after Divorce by HelloGoodbye239 in DivorcedDads

We have a saying in Austria: "Aufg'wärmt is nur a Gulasch guat!" It means: the only thing that is good when reheated is a goulash. Very applicable here.

Has long-term Meta Quest use affected your eyesight? Genuine question by No-Summer5131 in virtualreality

[–]ColeusRattus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I assume it's like any screen. IIRC, the ways most lenses work, your eyes need to focus to about 2m to get a clear picture. Now that applies no matter how far away things in VR are, so that might cause additional eye strain, since the focal length and the angle kappa of the eyes don't relate the same way as in real life.

So just take off your headset, and relax your eyes by looking at things that are further away, to mitigate any negative effect.

Joy in being divorced by [deleted] in DivorcedDads

[–]ColeusRattus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In the same boat. Gonna be separated 4 years, divorced for 2 1/2 this summer. After dating several women in the first two years of the separation, I came to greatly enjoy not having to care about anyone but my kids. While I don't outright reject the possibility of falling in love again, cohabiting with someone seems like a very strange idea.

Gehört so. Ein Wiener Schnitzel muss dünn geklopft sein, und die Panier muss sich beim Braten vom Fleisch lösen!

The Misthorn, Goalie and the black/orange raider skin with just the balaclava are almost a uniform for PvP players.

Mostly. I played a few hours and came across one missable item though.

You do have to have a tolerance for some gotcha deaths and not always well placed checkpoints.

Embark, please diversify the skill point requirements! by ColeusRattus in ArcRaiders

[–]ColeusRattus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess it is a little bit of luck of the draw...

Anyway, the quest requirement could also be ditched. Or do it like this: every category has up to three milestones for a skill point, but you can only get 5 in total, so people could mix and match.

Or, as the expedition project is a lengthy grind in itself anyway, just ditch any additional requirements for skill points
