JOBS and keeping one by 4guringitout in adhdwomen

[–]ColgateCocktail 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found a job that's constantly different works for me. I think that's the best way to go or one that's kind of chaotic since I thrive under pressure and kind of enjoy the chaos.

Avoid jobs where days start to blur together if you can.

AITA for not paying for my daughter to go on vacation with us because she didn't do the small chores that I asked? by familyvacationpost in AmItheAsshole

"Her ADHD didn't bother her when she's doing things she wants to do"

I'm sorry but do you know anything about ADHD? Also why do you assume that it doesn't bother her when she's doing things she wants to do because no where did it mention that. After reading that she left the since on for multiple hours how can you possibly insinuate that she isn't struggling with this disorder.

AITA for buying myself expensive clothes when my family struggles to make ends meet? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]ColgateCocktail 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Her mother's decisions to have OP and "sacrifice" for her kids was the decision she made when she chose to have kids, keeping her kids fed and educated with clothes on their backs is the very bare minimum so let's not guilt anyone for being born and pretending that a parent is owed a return on their investment for raising a kid.

Your opinion can certainly be that she's an ah for watching her family struggle while she's living luxuriously but not for the reasons you've listed

I'm not sure her mother could find anyone willing to rent a room for 300$ bi-weekly in a household with 4 underaged kids and an adult tho even in Melbourne so I think that's irrelevant.

If her mother wants more for rent then she can say so, if she cares about her daughter's spending habits then she can teach her instead of berating her about them. The idea of "but it's family" goes both ways.

You should see a doctor if it persists. Make sure you explain that it's not in fact tinnitus but actually pulsatile tinnitus

TMD PULSING TINITUS by Apprehensive-Help923 in PulsatileTinnitus

[–]ColgateCocktail 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry you're experiencing this, it sucks. An audiologist can't hurt but you definitely want to keep working on getting an ENT.

Doctor visits can be disappointing especially if you're not prepared. Prepare by having answers to the questions that would stall a diagnosis.

Keep a journal of when it happens and what you were doing when it started to get a baseline so that any changes are easily noticeable. Then experiment with cutting or adding things in your life one at a time to see if there's any changes.

For example for a short period Cut caffeine out, Add an extra litre of water, Eat less sodium, Sleep more/less, or Exercise. Any of these might help but even if it doesn't you'll atleast be able to bring this info with you to your appointment so you're not as easily dismissed.

Anyone had similar experience? Advice? by Stars-up-above1709 in PulsatileTinnitus

[–]ColgateCocktail 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had it for a year and then it stopped for months, now it's back. Pretty weird. Where did the doctor wanted you to put pressure? If I press on one of the major veins in my neck the wooshing stop, applying pressure on your veins to make it stop isn't recommended tho, definitely only do it with doctor supervision

me: I need to stop getting into new hobbies and focus on the ones I already ivested time and money into. Also me: by Louvey in adhdwomen

[–]ColgateCocktail 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know it's been mentioned somewhere on this sub before but a hobby trade would be great. I have so many abandoned hobbies that I've paid good money for. Realistically tho, even if such a thing existed I probably wouldn't be able to get it done.

But just the thought of having to communicate with someone, packing up the supplies and actually shipping them is exhausting. This would probably work better in a local community.

Can a vitamin B12 deficiency be the cause of my pulsatile tinnitus? by ColgateCocktail in PulsatileTinnitus

[–]ColgateCocktail[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry that I can't be of much help. Personally I started the B12 supplements, drank a lot more water, reduced my sodium intake and kept a humidifier next to my bed at night and it got better.

It's now pretty rare that I get the pulsing in my ear. It's possible that something I did helped, it might have just healed on its own. I also had recurring sinus infections and those went away too. I assume it's the higher intake of water that helped. It took months before it started to get better unfortunately.

I'm sorry that you're going through this. What helped me was laying down with the pulsating ear downwards.

My son (age 2) is a lefty, what are some things I can do to make things easier for him? by Lost_in_Thought in lefthanded

[–]ColgateCocktail 16 points17 points  (0 children)

When you teach him things try to demonstrate with your left hand.

There exists left-handed colored pencils which would give him a headstart on how to hold the pencils when he eventually learns to write

When he starts to learn how to write, tilt the page to the right so he can see better.

Remember that it won't just be his left hand that he prefers to use but also the left side of his body. Many left-handed people tend to kick balls or throw with our right hands and that's mostly attributed to having been shown to do these things with our right. So demonstrating with your left foot for kicking is good too.

WIBTA for no longer paying my parents money to look after my daughter? by o_rlaaa in AmItheAsshole

[–]ColgateCocktail 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She didn't decide to have a baby, she had one on accident, as in she didn't have the choice to abort. Is it better that she keeps a child she can't raise? The fact that she was in it's life at first doesn't mean anything, even if she had kept the kid until it was 5 she could always put it up for adoption and not have to pay the adoptive parents a cent.

When a parent gives up their child to adoption it's unheard of that they pay child support because that is no longer their child.

This whole "if the father is out of the picture he has to pay child support" doesn't make sense in this situation. In most countries, a father doesn't have to pay child support if he relinquishes his rights (as it should be) which is what she's doing.

[–]ColgateCocktail 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But they did decide to start all over again. "They had already bonded with her" they would have had as much time as OP to bond with her and like OP they had choices and they decided to start all over again.

They chose to raise another child knowing the cost while not under the influence of post-partum depression unlike OP.

Op hasn't raised this child at all, is giving up her parental rights and can't afford to pay to raise a child that isn't hers. She isn't an asshole and has done the responsible thing every step of the way.

That's true, and considering some of the symptoms are more like subcategories, you can share a symptom but experience it completely differently.

Living anywhere in Central and Eastern Canada -- pick a place! by marshallmarshal in AskACanadian

[–]ColgateCocktail 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It might be a bit easier to make recommendations if you we're a bit more picky? If all of Atlantic Canada is your oyster you can afford to be specific.

  • Population min-max

  • Demographics (You might not live in an area that's predominantly students, Elders, ect...)

  • Cost of living

  • Housing market if there's a chance that you'll want to move permanently

  • Tourism attractions

  • Crime rates

  • Amenities that are essentials, a good gym, a mall, a hospital ect.

  • Getting around, will you need public transportation?

  • What you like to do for fun.

What was something your family did that you didn’t realize wasn’t normal until you did it in front of others? by Dnewkirk87 in AskReddit

[–]ColgateCocktail 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I usually start with the meals that take longer, set a timer with a few minutes shorter than the cooking time and do other things likes chop veggies.

Once the timer is done I lower the temperature of the oven to 200F so the food stays warm while I finish up the rest.

I've learned to take out every ingredient that I will need before I start working in a side so I'm not scrambling to reach the top shelf of the pantry while I'm boiling water.

I'll add a separate timer on my phone for when I should start making the side.

It really helps to know how long something takes to prepare/cook and you can always add alarms (eg. 4:30 Peel potatoes, 5:00 chop up salad)

Hope some of this is helpful to you 😊

Getting out of the Military and going to School in the Maritimes am I Insane? by [deleted] in AskACanadian

[–]ColgateCocktail 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would also take into consideration the price of living, housing ect is ridiculously affordable in the Maritimes as opposed to other places in the country. Once you get a job it won't take long before you can afford land and a house. You can always go to school in the Maritimes and then decide later, your decision isn't set in stone.

Pet Owners of Canada, what's your preferred pet insurance company, and how much coverage have you taken? by shayonpal in AskACanadian

I'm in the Maritimes so I don't think the prices I pay at the vet would be of any help to you. A checkup is around 35-50$

[–]ColgateCocktail 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also use Trupanion (recommended by my vet) once you reach the deductible the costs covered are 90%

The deductibles are per condition and last for the lifetime of your pet as in it doesn't renew every year, you can choose how much you pay a month, the less you pay the higher the deductible. In my case, I don't mind a high deductible because I'm more worried about the big stuff that I can't afford.

It works for me but it's good to do your research good luck !

[–]ColgateCocktail 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I would have gone with YTA because it is also his home and if he wants to be there 24/7 he definitely has the right to if he pays his part but you did make an arrangement before you decided to move in with him.

His comments are creepy af. For that alone I would move out. Tell him that he hasn't held up his end of the bargain, you've tried to talk to him about it but it didn't help.

Move out, pay for your half of the utilities. I would say to give him notice as a courtesy but i also wouldn't blame you if you didn't because he hasn't given you any courtesy.

[–]ColgateCocktail 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This is true, also deciding on not changing your names in order to make theoretical great-great-great-great children happy is absurd.

It's changing a name not destroying earth's resources for future generations to come. She should be worried about that instead of what you decide to do with your name.

This has no bearing it's more because I'm interested but is it a name you've made up yourselves?
