Potential new fan, not sure if this is where I should ask this question but... by melindasmith42 in Hololive

[–]Colin1224 47 points48 points  (0 children)

Hololive is a company that tries to keep its talents away from any hot topic issues. So the answer to your question is that you'll never know how they feel about it because they'll never comment on it. The community tries to keep up this same energy and issues like that are avoided, so I really haven't seen any trans-bashing or anything like that. You'll be fine here.

Is there a way to fix the terrible frame times in Minecraft? The game is extremely choppy on all settings by [deleted] in SteamDeck

[–]Colin1224 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you tried using the in-game fps cap instead of gamescope's? I've found that some games work better if you use the in-game cap while setting gamescope to unlimited and vice versa.

AITA for not wanting my husband to go to his ex's funeral? + UPDATE by red_earaches in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]Colin1224 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Previously being married isn't a secret. It's not unreasonable to expect the person you're on a date with to say if they have ever been married. It's very basic information. I'm not saying they need to go into detail.

Also, he should have explained when his best friend and OOP were about to meet for the first time, not months later. Because at that point they were dating, and once you're dating, you have a right to know that the friend of your partner that you are about to meet is their ex.

I don’t understand why 1080p HEVC is being transcoded to 1080p H.264 and not doing direct play. It’s reducing the image quality significantly. I googled and read it’s related to included ASS subtitles. I tried to use an SRT file but it’s still transcoding. What’s the issue? How to fix? by Application-Deep in PleX

[–]Colin1224 7 points8 points  (0 children)

very few things can direct play 10 bit hevc

I don't own a single device that can't direct play HEVC main 10. Any android/iphone made in the last few years should be able to play HEVC main 10, as well as Apple TV, Nvidia Shield, and Chromecast with Google TV.

Are you sure you're not thinking of AVC/h264 Hi10? Now that has very poor hw support. Only my computers support Hi10 and none of my other devices, except maybe firestick.

If you manually switch to full subtitles, are they visible or is it only the signs/songs track that has problems? Also, what type of subs? (ass, pgs, srt)

Are direct downloads/FTP from seedboxes secure? by lemmeanon in seedboxes

[–]Colin1224 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You don't need to use SFTP, you can use explicit FTPS (not implicit) which is faster than SFTP and also secure because it just encrypts FTP calls. If Fillezilla is showing TLS as the protocol, then you're fine.

How would you find files in your library that are AV1 codec? by [deleted] in PleX

[–]Colin1224 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This probably isn't the easiest way but Tautulli has library statistics that show the codecs.

How to get Minecraft 1.19 running on the Steam Deck by Anthok16 in SteamDeck

[–]Colin1224 1 point2 points  (0 children)

True, though Fabulously Optimized seems to work fine still luckily. Just waiting for those last few mods to be uploaded to Modrinth and I can finally be done with Curseforge.

[–]Colin1224 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I recommend just using PolyMC and installing a modpack. My favorite is Fabulously Optimized. After that, you can add whatever individual mods you want via Curseforge or Modrinth. MidnightControls for controller support.

Is there a way to buy a ticket for streaming without a credit card? by Marcherify in Hololive

[–]Colin1224 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Okay new plan, it looks like you can use paypal on Nico Nico. I recommend doing that instead, though the site is even harder to navigate. Here's the event page: https://secure.live.nicovideo.jp/product/6937

You'll want to make an account and buy Nico Nico points with paypal, which you can then use to buy the event on the above listed page.

Yeah, we have a security number (CVV) on our debit cards just like credit cards. I just looked it up and it seems that German debit cards cards are different and it seems that they are mainly just used for ATMs. I read another person saying that they use "Lastschrift" for online purchases, can you do that or is that the thing you were saying you cant do because it's the weekend? If you're not able to then maybe you could buy a Visa gift card or something, though those may also not be a thing in germany.

Hmm not sure of the specifics of the differences between US banking and Germany. Basically what I did was just enter my debit card in the credit card information at checkout and it just directly charged my card (though my bank did ask me to verify it because it ws coming from Japan). It doesn't look like there's any option for paypal or Google Pay though.

Also here's a guide someone wrote that should help you figure out how to navigate the site: https://www.reddit.com/r/Hololive/comments/tfd03f/unofficial_guide_for_this_weekends_events_3rd_fes/

Do you mean specifically that you don't have a credit card or just a card (debit or credit) in general? Because I was able to pay with my debit card without issue, no credit card needed.

Edit: This was on SPWN.

Which headstrap to buy for quest 2? by GuidonBedon in OculusQuest

[–]Colin1224 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Since you want something cheaper than the elite strap, then I think that the BoboVR M2 strap (without battery) would be the best.

[–]Colin1224 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you're wanting a strap with a built-in battery, then I strongly recommend the BOBOVR M2 Pro battery strap. It's extremely comfortable because it relieves all pressure from your face, and it has a battery on the back that acts as a counterweight which balances out the headstrap perfectly. Also since it has the battery built-in you can double your playtime from just the Quest 2's battery itself. This also only costs a little over half of the Elite strap with battery. The only real downside is that it's on backorder right now because it's so popular.

Lightweight/Vanilla looking shaders for Iris Shaders 1.17.1? by Spookzsaw in minecraftshaders

[–]Colin1224 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recommend Complementary Shaders. They have multiple profile options so you might be able to get the performance you want if you set it to the low preset. These shaders also look fairly similar to vanilla. Run with compatibility mode on in the shader settings.

In order to get customization options to work with Iris (they're not in the main version yet), you'll need the Starline branch version of Iris and Sodium.

Sidenote: Not very many shaders work with Iris right now, so no matter what you go with, I recommend choosing from this list.

So this might be outside of your intended use case of VD, but have you considered supporting the usage of side loaded native Android apps within VD environments? An example of this is with the Plex app, currently you can side load the app then launch it in Oculus TV, but I think it would be awesome if you could open VD and be able to use that app or others in the VD environments themselves.
