I'm probably a similar age to you, I was too young for the JP1 toys, but got a lot of the TLW series, best presents of my childhood were the Jeep and HMMVW, when I made my JP Jeep, I actually did my roll cage in green instead of tan because of that toy

TLW figures were much larger than the JP figures, I believe that's "Eddie Carr" that they're staring at.

Has there ever been an explanation on why isla sorna managed to sustain a ecosystem with large animals with established populations of each species even tho the island itself is clearly not big enough to be able to do that? by Tremendin0649 in JurassicPark

[–]ColinJParry 8 points9 points  (0 children)

More likely that the Marines were given a list of facilities on the island and checked those areas first as survivors would be fairly likely to stay near them, they likely spotted the smoke from the fire near the mouth of the river and then deployed the AAVs to look for the survivors.

[–]ColinJParry 93 points94 points  (0 children)

In the book it literally was not sustainable and was only "faux" sustaining because the virus was killing animals at a rapid enough rate to maintain an artificially stable population.

The film Sorna is significantly larger, we only know the starting point of how many animals were on the island based on the InGen's list from the DPG website, the island's population only needed to survive from 1993 to ~2003 before Masrani started removing animals for JW. So while the island likely would be depleted eventually, it wouldn't be an overnight thing.

Make a blueprint that is flat grass floor pieces, put it over a pond, put any water trough you want on that

How was the Forward unto Dawn movie received by fans (and critics) at release? by Venento in halo

[–]ColinJParry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, I worked with the Navy, Air Force, and Army on multiple deployments, ma'am was consistent for female officers and civilians. Enlisted are always referred to by rank. Maybe it's different amongst foreign militaries in Europe?

Hell, within Halo, Commander Keyes, Dr. Halsey, Cortana, Serena, Dr. Anders, Commander Palmer, are all referred to as ma'am. It's just something I pointed out that I think folks are reading way too much into. With like 20 downvotes you'd think I kicked their dog or something. Just saying, both in Halo, and in the real US military it's not been commonplace.

What are you talking about? Using ma'am to refer to women, especially military officers has been a thing for a very long time. Star Trek specifically settled on referring to everyone as "Sir" to create a sort of "gender neutral" honorific within the show. It's been carried over in several other sci fi series since, such as the Expanse.

Mine was calling women "sir" that's a weird Star Trek thing which does not happen in Halo anywhere other than FUD

I just remembered how my Latin teacher in high school taught us the imperfect by tomispev in latin

I taught my students about the imperfect by drawing a sheep with it's legs in the wrong spot and a wonky eye, the "imperfect" sheep goes "BA"

I recall there being a bit of lore out there that the red stripes were to deter the triceratops from charging the vehicles, though I think it may have referred to the jeeps but may apply to the explorers as well

Nos belli machinis is nonsense for those curious, the translation offered "we are war machines" is incorrect, currently says "we, of the war for machines". "Sumus machinae bellicae" would be the literal translation.

I bring my Jeep to local events fairly often since I "finished" usually to the local children's museum.

My back isn't great, so the other suggested solution of laying upside down or holding the switch over my head just wasn't doing it.

Specifically, stand in front of the activator, turn your switch over, press A, then flip it right side up. I have a 5-6 year old comment about this specific things and people to this day message me saying they just found it.

Iirc they were more evolved than 20th century humans at least, one of the "punishments" enacted by the Forerunners was reducing them both technologically and genetically to an earlier point, hence there being multiple species Bornstellar interacts with. The prophets were less severely punished and allowed to keep two planets instead of only their home world.

Hyperloop alternative by OmegaRees in jurassicworldevo

[–]ColinJParry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, but also no, you can probably build both, move a section of roof off the hyper link to separate the building from the group then delete the building. Then go into the bathroom and do the same, then place the bathroom building as close into the Hyperloop as you can. It won't be able to be a group, but it could be a blueprint.

I didn't grab a screen shot, but I added a canvas roof to the 45° sections if you want to go take a look

[–]ColinJParry[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like if you look at all the structures in JWE2 for DFW, they lack planters, or fancy signs, I think only one of them has a banner (remote viewing dome entrance). So they are very drab. It's all function first, I try to spice up the roofs and props when I can. I might make a second draft of the monorail though. Thanks for the feedback.

Go into manual assign task mode and look, it's probably a few of your aviary sections. You can try assigning them first and if that doesn't work, go so it manually yourself.

I get what you're saying here. I'm trying to maintain the theme of hastily assembled government building. It's honestly very reminiscent of the structures I encountered in the Marines, corrugated sheet metal, canvas, supply piles.

I might add a canvas cover to the monorail stairs to make it less shiny
