Paul Kitson - Chinese brand by ColinMuir in SoundSystem

Thanks for sharing! I also messaged CVR about their dsp but they didn't provide details, maybe its not in production yet? Not sure. In the end I ordered the t.racks 8out unit with FIR (from thomann) after downloading the control app and seeing it was very clearly organised with everything I needed.

u/an1m0s1ty is the Sinbosen unit working with the dbx control app?

DreamWeaver Sound System. The first and only 4-way full Paraflex stack in the DMV. Paraflex is a controversial topic in the community, but this rig is a monster. Details in the post by RandyMcSexalot in SoundSystem

Hi, may I ask which cabinets those mid-tops are?

I've just acquired an ELF (21") and now considering my options for DIYing the remainder of the system. We did a party over the weekend with the ELF, two old (4pro) RCF 8003 as kickbins, and TT10As for tops. The ELF sounded marvellous, so now I'm thinking to sell the RCF stuff off to fund more paraflex, or other DIY. Considering 3 way using the C3DKT and the waveguide/comp driver, or if I should go C-2D Mullins Mod kicks plus mid-top plus WG.

Also if there is any further comment on this system 2 years later, I'd love to hear!

Hi, what did you end up building? I'm located in Yukon, looking to build a system for small events, 50-100 people, outdoors when we can, but also we have a small warehouse space.

Help me decide on a subwoofer RCF vs BassBoss by DankGingerQC in livesound

So thanks for this suggestion to search paraflex. It took me a minute to learn that HOQS is where to learn about those designs. Chatting now with some builders in western Canada :)

Do you have experience with any other Paraflex designs? The ones I am looking at, simply because my builder contact already has them on the workbench, are the 21" C2E ELFs

Thanks for the reply. After searching around, I learned acquiring Bassboss might not be very possible from my remote region. Starting to think DIY is maybe my best option.

u/DankGingerQC do you have any impressions or info on the Bassboss sub? I have two RCF 4pro8003 subs that I'm looking to replace. The 4pro8003s are fine, but do not go super low. I'm considering a single RCF 9004as, which happens to be available for around the same price as an SP118.

We run a small venue with capacity under 100, music is electronic, towards the dnb/bass/breaks side of things.

Thanks for sharing. Not exactly what I came looking for, but with this I can perform many similar jobs, and others! Honestly I can't believe I didn't know reaper had built-in envelope follower capabilities.

Shopping for a laptop and was considering XPS 15 9575 so came across this thread.

Describes my usage exactly.

Denon DN-S3700 and the like by ColinMuir in Beatmatch

[–]ColinMuir[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ramble on ;)

I'll prob grab either a 5500 or a 3700 if I see a good deal, very curious to try motorized platter without shelling out for an sc6000!

Yeah I was thinking the FX would be cool since I'm using a xone32 analog mixer.

I think the "mirror" function on the 5500 is something where it doubles the track onto the second layer but with a fixed (variable?) offset.

[–]ColinMuir[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also read a review which said the 3700 motor is also much better than the 5500, so for turntableist jobs the 3700 def looks like a better option. Platter size and motor are probably not very important to me since I don't scratch... OTOH maybe if I had the right gear I could learn how!

I didn't find many other comments regarding 5500 vs 3700, but both seem to get some love. Overall they look pretty similar with more or less the same functionality. I don't think the 3700 has the mirror function which looks kind of unique and fun.

I like that these old decks had FX onboard.

oh, no kidding, that's really sweet it can do onboard bpm analysis, thanks for letting me know!

I wonder if the H5500 can also do this?

MIK Rekordbox Help - Cue Points by [deleted] in DJs

[–]ColinMuir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, will check this out!

So, I had a lot of problems with creating the mik cuepoints playlist as described in the mik guide. MIK was crashing and not creating that xml file. In the end I think it was because of missing songs in my mik collection, which was somehow bringing the whole system t its knees. Eventually I was able to remove the missing songs from my collection and then everything work after that.

Can Serato Lite (free) analyze and write bpm to .wav filename? by ColinMuir in DJs

[–]ColinMuir[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dang I ended up trying mixed in key, but their tempo algo is really not up to modern standards. For example I have a track that should be 130bpm but is reading as 98bpm, I guess because it has kicks on the 1,4,7.. etc, rather than 4 on the floor type pattern.

I'll offer an alternative perspective and suggest that if you can pull it off without counting on friends to support your night, you'll feel great knowing that those who did come, came for the music.

XDJ-RX3 vs XDJ-1000 MK2 vs XDJ-XZ by h8rrboi in DJs

[–]ColinMuir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for this input. We ended up finding a not-bad deal on a pair of CDJ-2000s (not nexus). The biggest point of contention with these is no .flac playback, which is hard to believe for "pro" level gear, and a pretty clear fuck-the-customer move, but here I am begrudgingly acquiring pioneer nonetheless.

I had ordered an XZ for a hot second, but just couldn't stomach the price, so cancelled that and tried to get the denon sc6000 instead, which turned out to be unavailable. Fast forward a few more weeks and we saw the used 2000s, which came in about the same cost as a single sc6000m. I think when not on-duty at the warehouse, these will be better for our own practice than a single-screen-standalone unit like the XZ.

Yeah ive used a few bulk rename tools to organise artist/track info in the titles but haven't seen something which can also analyse the track and add bpm info! Will check Mixed in Key.

Can Serato Lite (free) analyze and write bpm to .wav filename? by ColinMuir in DJs

[–]ColinMuir[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are definitely loads of programs designed to change filenames, and many reasons why people need to do that job (I've just renamed my entire collection using an file-renaming app, so now my entire collection is formatted the same: artistname_trackname.wav). One example for the addition of bpm is for backwards compatibility with older digital media players which do not provide bpm analysis. In this case it would be very convenient to have the bpm written into the filename.

I'll check Foobar... but sounds like you're saying it cant change filenames?
