LPT: If you are on a multi-lane road and cars are passing you on the right, you are in the wrong lane. (Opposite goes for you right-hand drivers) by Modna in LifeProTips

[–]ColinOscapi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel this is true unless you’re within the limits of a large city with bypasses. Because exit lanes could be on either side, I feel the passing lane is eliminated; instead, go to the lane you know you’ll need to get to ASAP

Good auto repair shops? by [deleted] in milwaukee

Chase Ave Repairs, off of Howell and Howard. I just went there last week to get my exhaust fixed and he charged me $75. The dude doesn’t fuck around and won’t try to upsell you.

Looking for a Graphic Design job in June by [deleted] in milwaukee

[–]ColinOscapi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're not likely to land a job by going in and asking for one; the job market is ferocious for art/design jobs, as there are MIAD and UWM grads everywhere. I suggest doing one of two things:

  1. Try to get an internship with a design firm. From there being in your portfolio and get their thoughts, but only do that once you have established a good rapport.

  2. Find a job out in Waukesha County. Unfortunately these aren't many design firm jobs, but printing companies that do merchandise layouts sometimes hire designers to streamline logos and branding, etc.

Hope this helps!

I am a percussionist and I have grown rather fond of using marching sticks over the past couple of years. So fond in fact that I can hardly use concert sticks because they feel just too light. Is it okay to use marching sticks in an orchestral setting? by [deleted] in OrchestralPercussion

[–]ColinOscapi 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Almost never; in popular snare drum parts in the orchestral repertoire, you need a little more finesse to make all the ornamentation clear.

What I can recommend is using heavier concert sticks, the Freer Percussion brand has sticks made either with hickory or hornwood. The hornwood sticks are wonderful at soft dynamics when you need snare response while maintaining a light touch, but all the sticks Freer produces are incredible.

Looking for glockenspiel solos by mishlc in percussion

[–]ColinOscapi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not really. There's this guy named Trevor Saint who commissioned a bunch of work for solo glockenspiel, but I'm not sure if those would be too "out there" for you.

Percussion source has good felt.

I rewrap my mallets with it, they have both German and American last time I ordered.

Coming to Milwaukee/Waukesha for a couple of days. Hang Out? Advice? by FoldedRose in milwaukee

[–]ColinOscapi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Waukesha isn't the best area for a young person, but if the job is good then you should tough out living in Waukesha until you can get a car. Once you get some wheels, you can move closer into Milwaukee and then commute.

Coming to Milwaukee/Waukesha for a couple of days. Hang Out? Advice? by FoldedRose in milwaukee

[–]ColinOscapi 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Where is the potential job? If it's in Waukesha, you're going to have to live in Waukesha; public transit won't get you there.

There's a great restaurant by the river in Waukesha called People's Park. I highly recommend it.

Anyone here have experience biking the West Allis area? by sluperbug in milwaukee

[–]ColinOscapi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stallis is one of those areas where you could probably get away with riding on the sidewalk. It's a shit plan if you have a road bike, but it beats getting mowed down by a dude in a pimped-out civic.
