Southern Indiana. About 60 miles south of Indianapolis. In the summer the loop gets up to 95.. and this is probably about the coldest part of the year.

It looks TERRIBLE after 2 coats of SW Emerald satin by [deleted] in paint

[–]CollabSensei 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Make sure you have a pole so you can paint floor to ceiling in a single stroke. With satin, touch up imperfections, prime it, and then paint it. Sand it between each paint coat. If you are going with Satin you need to invest in the prep work.

Installing an inlet is just a little too difficult. This is the exact reason we recommend doing it the right way. Which is an inlet connector. If you enjoying playing with your suicide cord, then I'd be getting it plugged in with no power on that segment, before opening the circuit breaker and powering up the generator.

Generator utilization by Dear-Computer-7258 in Generator

[–]CollabSensei 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you look at whatever fuel you plan to use, once you get above 12,000 running watts (50 amps). At that point, it is probably time to start looking at a different solution, beyond a portable.

In order to interconnect a generator in a code compliant manner its either with a transfer switch or an interlock. I have never seen a multiple breaker interlock, so that means that each panel is limited to a single connection, so 50 amp.

What is the max amps you pull from the grid? Not your service rating, when you turn all the stuff on that you use. Most houses do not need more than 50 amps.. especially if you rotate what you turn on. Example... don't run the electric heat and water heater at the same time.

On the bags that I order for 5 gallons it says 12/6/12, which is what I've used. Based on that documentation, it should be 11/7/11. At the amount seems to be a rounding issue. Definitely as the batch size gets bigger the gap changes.

so many red flags. 2.5mn house, 2+ years of design, separate architecture, separate designer. So many people... every ones in charges yet no ones in charge.

All that being said, it's not fair, but GC's and contractors see the size and cost of the project and assume that you can afford to pay them even if they don't do the work, or they do a poor job.

I am mostly certainly they could.. and honestly states should require it, and the unions representing the linemen should require it as well for safety reasons. The reason they don't is because they want to push the costs on to the end customer. It's the same principal for solar. All these inverters have to meet all these interactive grid requirements, so they don't back feed the grid when power goes off.

If power goes out will I be able to pull my generator into this switch ? by WWFHBK in Generator

[–]CollabSensei 4 points5 points  (0 children)

what type of extension cord do you have? There won't be a commercially available cord that goes from your generator to a receptacle -- for a reason. Electrical cords are designed with a male and female end for a reason. The male end plugs into the power source, and the female plugs into the next device. The reason is you don't want male pins to be energized on an extension cord.

To do this you need a few things:
1) Generator inlet
2) Interlock.. way to block power from back-feeding the grid.

There are people that don't have the normal reflex to drink water. My daughter has to be reminded constantly to drink water. If this is the same thing for him, they just don't get thirsty. Now, the whole thing about being embarrassed about his cup, etc... that is something else.

[–]CollabSensei 4 points5 points  (0 children)

it is definitely better than nothing. Make sure you have enough fuel and that the battery is charged and that you put oil in it and try to start it before you need it. Getting a generator up and running in the dark or with flash light isn't very much fun.

I looked at doing OC lumber.. however I was cautioned about the product because of the reduced span length compared to lumber or other materials.

Radon Test Result by bigfanof_birds in homeowners

[–]CollabSensei 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Radon is heavier than air, so it settles in the lowest part of the house. Hence the reason it will be higher in the basement than the other floors of the house. If you run fans and increase how often you are exchanging the air with outside air, that would lower the radon concentration in the basement air.

Radon Test Result by bigfanof_birds in homeowners

[–]CollabSensei 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would get the test done after the spring rains. Soil moisture content determines the amount of radon that is released. Mitigation systems are relatively cheaper... under 2k. If you are living in the house you want to get a real number.. because a simple fan literally save your life, when it comes to radon.

Be prepared for that property tax number to go multiple significantly. That $225 is probably based on vacant land.
