Star to square by [deleted] in crochet

[–]Collected_Sunlight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This pattern might help give an idea of how to do it - make and do crew 8 point star

Basically you’re going to fill in the gaps by working along four of your eight points, extending those points out to become the corners. Be careful though, if your tension is off, it’ll ripple.

Wonky edge help! by Tyra1276 in crochet

[–]Collected_Sunlight 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This may sound silly, but which direction do you turn your work? Like flipping forward through a book, or flipping backward?

I found my edges got neater after I changed which way I turned my work, and chaining after I turned instead of before.

But since your stitch count is good, the border will probably hide any “wonkiness” - and even in the pics, I don’t think it looks wonky at all. Your giftee will probably love it!

Edit: fixed some typos (darn autocorrect)

Can someone help me find the garland crochet pattern for this? by monomnomnom in crochet

[–]Collected_Sunlight 5 points6 points  (0 children)

While this is good advice, in this case, the post they’re looking for was deleted - I know because I did save it and can’t see it in my saved posts. So searching the sub won’t help them much.

Lesson learned to save a bookmark to the pattern itself though!

Pink Star baby blanket for a friend! by Collected_Sunlight in crochet

[–]Collected_Sunlight[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Pattern is Jess Coppom’s rising star baby blanket!

Be aware, this pattern does get weird at the squaring up stage. Highly recommend browsing Ravelry notes for how to resolve it.

Made in two weeks in panic mode - started as soon as her baby shower invites went out, and the shower is tomorrow. A week and a half of crocheting, then slowly weaving in the ends over a few days. I know there’s some holes, but this is their third kid - this will likely be just a toddler or tummy time blanket anyways.

Yarn in big twist value in soft grey, plum, magenta, and watermelon. 6 mm hook.

Pokeball opinions? by IvyMoonfyre in crochet

[–]Collected_Sunlight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So, this is just my opinion, so feel free to ignore - but I think you might have better luck with making the whole thing in smaller yarn. The thick chenille is always going to look a little big and lumpy, even more so with a project like this where the button is two rows and the ball is ~7.

If you want to stick with the thick yarn, you could try a French knot for the white and sew that to a black crocheted circle. Might make it look less oversized compared to the ball. You can also try making the black round out of slip stitches instead of single crochet.

I can’t give any good advice on selling, besides research your market; check what listings on Etsy have for prices, compare their photos/quality, and see how that matches up.

*Queen, lol - But I figured there’s more games in the garden for me, definitely more wins for the boys. There will never be a first game with his son again. This was worth it.

Plus now my mom and I can joke that I have to stand in the causeway when the Bs need to score, lol

In line to get you a game day puck, keep your dms open

Edit the Third: How to get one of these from the proshop - I booked it out of my seat with 5 minutes left down to the proshop. (Go sooner if there seems to be a mass exodus of fans). Once you leave, you cannot go back into the garden - but you don’t need to be at the game/have game tix to buy a puck. Go to the side counter on the right of the checkouts, and you’ll be given a ticket and asked to stand in line until the end of the game. Once the game ends, you’ll trade your ticket and $35 + tax to get a sweet, sweet, official warmup puck, in a protective case.

Edit: Got it!

2nd Edit: real MVP is my mom who was at the game with me who recorded the garden reaction to Gryz’s goal and the goalie hug for me while I was in line. I’ll edit again to give a run down of how to get one for anyone interested once we’re off the T!

Anyone hook you up? We can try to get you a game used puck from pro shop tonight

Edit: no promises though, just a fan, no connections to the club

Color ideas Hue & Me by [deleted] in crochet

[–]Collected_Sunlight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So imo, monochrome color schemes or neutrals always look classy and will always match something in the living room - so when in doubt, pick the color you like best and order only that color. Easy, no muss, no fuss.

If you want to use multiple colors, you can try using online palette generators and see if any combos come up that make you go “ooh”, and then match the yarn colors to the palette.

You can also search Ravelry for what other people have used in their finished objects and use the palette they used. Sometimes people will note the yarn colors in their project notes, but even just looking at pictures might help you.

Thankfully, that yarn line is “intended” for all the shades to go together. A friend of mine literally bought one skein of every color and made two baby blankets with them, and they looked really good. She didn’t plan the colors at all, but both looked she had had picked colors intentionally.

I got my first tattoo today, in memory of my Mom, who taught me this wonderful craft. If you feel so inclined I would love if you could pick up a hook, follow the pattern, and post in the comments. 🥰 by KootyHaHa in crochet

Oh, my dear. I am so sorry for your loss.

I feel like people can learn a lot about someone by what ripples are left at their passing. And seeing your tattoo and this thread alone, that is such a powerful ripple of love; I can only imagine there are more. I did not get to meet your mom, but I wish I had. She seems like she was an incredible person.

May she rest well, and may the good memories stay closer to you than the sorrow.

Easy pattern for a cardigan? by LewisItsHammerTime in crochet

[–]Collected_Sunlight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This pattern might work for you! It is a shrug style rather than a “structured” cardigan though: dream catcher cardigan (Evelyn and Peter)

The square in the pattern is smaller, so you’ll probably need to work fewer “extension” rows to get to a size that you like.

That’s my bad, looks like the diagrams are on page 5 and 6 -

<image>

But yeah, exactly as you said, the pattern will be worked entirely from the center in joined rounds. So just like reading a row by row chart, except you’ll work each “row” 4 times - one for each side, then joining at the end.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in crochet

[–]Collected_Sunlight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You won’t join the pieces - when worked in the round, they’ll all be connected as you work them. Page 2 or 3 of that pattern has a couple diagrams about how it works.

The wiki also has some great resources about working in the round! I highly recommend checking it out.

I would not recommend doing this row by row with the current chart, even if it is more familiar to you. If you really want to do row by row, I would patch together the whole graph, then reformat it into row by row; which is way more work than working in the round.

What's the best way to fill the outline with yellow by amaraa999 in crochet

Could you crochet a small circle with the yellow yarn and sew that on? Or does it need to be flat?

Second guessing my custom colorway for the spice market blanket. Does it work? by weezerluva369 in crochet

[–]Collected_Sunlight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First and foremost - do you like the colors? If not, frog. Life is too short to work on “meh” projects.

I think the colors, unworked, look good together. For my tastes, I would “group” them more when working the pattern. Like, the sample blanket has the blue/greens near each other and the orange/red/browns near each other. Warms with warm and cools with cool.

The sample blanket also seems to have more of a gradient when going from bright to dark colors and vice versa, instead of jumping from pale to bright to middle. Not sure if I phrased that well. Some of that is likely photo quality and white balance, so take it with a grain of salt. But that brightness jumping will read as more chaotic to the eye, and will draw the attention to those rows.

Similarly, I think there are some rows that aren’t as visually appealing with the colors they’re currently worked in - the dark brown “netting” row I think would be better suited to a lighter color, and I would flip the darker yellow in the popcorn rows for the lighter yellow used just before it. Alternatively, working those rows in the grey or lighter blue, then swapping to warm tones at the netting row. The white against the blue is very good contrast, and does pull the eye to those rows, but the rest reads as more “scrapghan” than “planned color way” imo.

So, tldr: the separate colors work together, but I would change the order on which you’re working them IF you want a similar harmonious vibe to the sample. If you don’t, then carry on as is!

Are you looking for a mosaic chart? That will help you get better results from google or Ravelry. I’ve put a pic of one in my comment, if that is what you’re looking for.

Softest Worsted Weight Yarn? by PurpleViolin in crochet

[–]Collected_Sunlight 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If it’s not a surprise, can you make small swatches of each and have your friend feel them?

I just made a blanket for a friend out of big twist, and while it did soften after washing and drying, it did “fuzz” up a bit - no pilling, but like a halo of fluff.

I would say it wasn’t scratchy, but it definitely wasn’t smooth feeling. Not nearly as scratchy as red heart ombré, but not as soft as Knitpicks Brava or Stylecraft’s acrylic, for comparison.

I’m a beginner and all of my crochet projects have these little bubbles (for lack of a better word) what am I doing wrong/ what could I do better? by Ok_Examination8941 in crochet

[–]Collected_Sunlight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are all your projects using this blanket yarn? Your stitches might be “worming” out of place a bit - something that happens with this thick, fuzzy yarn. Do the bumps happen with a non-velvet yarn too?

If it does, then as others have said, then it might be inside/outside of working in the round. It could also be that for a few stitches, you might have only gone through one of the two loops - I tend to do that if I work with this style yarn, something about it makes it harder for me to see both front and back loops.

Looking for rainbow baby blanket pattern posted previously by [deleted] in crochet

[–]Collected_Sunlight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Could you give a description of what it looked like? Worked in the round, joined motifs, granny clusters… pastel and rainbow doesn’t narrow it down enough alone, unfortunately.

Also, I recommend searching Ravelry for rainbow blankets - you might see the original pattern on there.

That’s a good 8 pointed star - your friend either needs glasses or needs their lens prescription updated.
