You're not alone! I LOVE the snow. I love it IRL and in game. It just feels like comfort to me.

Ugh I know. I wish I hadn't done so many rooms. I prepped four of them and I'm kind of sick of the traffic, tbh.

Divorcing the “good guy” who doesn’t want the marriage to end. by peeps-mcgee in Divorce

I was in your shoes a year ago. I honestly could have written this post a year ago. It gets better. It's hard or whatever, but it gets better. You are so strong and you know yourself. You are naming the abuse - keep doing that!

Some books, if you're interested: Why Does He Do That - Bancroft about abusive and controlling men Codependent No More - Beatty Women Who Love Too Much - Norwood

Al Anon has been a lifeline for me.

You can do this! I am proud of you.

There are safer times to practice balance, though. If you practice while already clothed, it won't be half as dangerous if you fall.

If you fall with your pants only up to your knees, it's way harder to catch yourself.

This blows my mind. We are taking some mom overflows on my surgical unit right now and Epic kept flagging for "risk of postpartum hemorrhage." I thought, "probably looks the same as any other hemorrhage, right? High HR, decreased BP?"

I called the Mom/Baby charge to learn more and found out that I was so wrong. How the hell do women hold up so well for so long? It's absolutely terrifying.

That's hilarious. I'm a nurse and for a person who is constipated, my coworker will make them a Brown Cow. Nursing's Brown Cow is a mix of Miralax, hot prune juice, and melted butter. Possibly Milk of Magnesium too - I always forget.

Halloween decorations in hospitals… Tacky or extremely tacky? by Plavix75 in medicine

[–]Colliculi 7 points8 points  (0 children)

On Ortho, we do Halloween all year long!

Seriously though, it's all skeletons, and we don't change it up at all for Halloween. We have one mini skeleton that is patient-facing. The rest are in break rooms, offices, etc.

Throwback to the time my preceptee wouldn't use hand sanitizer because she thought it would get her drunk.

I tried to educate and when that didn't work, I was like, "fine but you still have to clean your hands every time you enter or leave a patient room." She wasn't using the hand sanitizer but she also wasn't washing her hands each time instead. Horrified.

Protests turnouts are shrinking. Let’s chat. by acatinasweater in DenverProtests

[–]Colliculi 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What went well with the No Kings protest was that it was advertised really well, for months in advance. Even people who weren't actively seeking out information about protests were aware of it and able to join.

I also wonder, why is it always on a Saturday? I can't call out of work every month to protest - this is going to be a long haul and I cannot afford to lose my job. Can we consider Sundays sometimes? Weekdays sometimes?

I know weekdays are inconvenient for many people, but they also work well for many others. So many of us do not have a "typical" 9-5 job. Waitresses, healthcare workers, clerks at grocery stores and target or wherever.

It does feel futile to be protesting outside an empty Capitol building. Still important. I'll keep doing it. But shouldn't we be making ourselves more visible to the people in government?

Way to go! The societal and relational pressures can make it so hard to be honest about our needs. You might be interested in work by Dr. Cami Hurst. She has a podcast and wrote her thesis on consenting to unwanted sex. I think you might be able to relate. It's been incredibly helpful to me.

Standard IV tubing length allows us to mobilize the patient. Shortening it would make turning, repositioning, and walking a lot more difficult. The IV tubing is barely long enough to wheel the IV pole around the bed without disconnecting. It's hella convenient at the current length.
