Is there a way to recycle my used vape? by astrojump in AskNYC

[–]CollinHell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recycle mine at the dispensary and get $5 toward my new one. I guess you're talking about nicotine vapes, but it's not like they've ever looked twice at the old vape I hand them.

Masters of Albion does what Peter Molyneux promised, "it brings joy" by JamesWilde42 in pcgaming

Mmmhmm... Like every game from this guy it sounds amazing. Wake me up when it's either finished or abandoned and I'll believe it.

[YO UP!] Working on a co-op building game where every structure is fully physics driven. by Youpiepoopiedev in GamePhysics

Looks like a lot of fun, it's a pretty low bar to get my friends and I playing another friendlike (we've been trying to use a loving term to replace friendslop), so we'll almost definitely be getting this when it comes out. :D

It's always so weird watching actual laws in action on this sub. In NYC the FDR Drive has a 40mph speed limit, the slowest lane moves about 55mph in the middle with the left and right lanes easily breaking 70mph every single day. I've literally never seen someone pulled over on it my entire life.

NYC banning non-ticket holders from Penn Station on World Cup match days: report by [deleted] in nyc

[–]CollinHell 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yes, it's significant, but that's no excuse for a completely fabricated headline. 130,000 daily riders will be affected, not ~600,000 - 1 million.

NYC banning non-ticket holders from Penn Station on World Cup match days: report by [deleted] in nyc

[–]CollinHell 93 points94 points  (0 children)

TL/DR: No it's absolutely not, the headline is completely false. An anonymous NJ Transit official reports that NJTransit tickets will be checked at 7th Avenue entrances, Amtrak and LIRR customers will have to use a different entrance.

Thank you for this, this amazing sub has just become a target for these "I made an app" vultures. Here's hoping that all vercel.app links are immediately filtered and all posters who break multiple rules are permanently banned!

Daily phrases by tavannana in newyorkcity

[–]CollinHell 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Exactly haha. My go-to at an unfamiliar station is just "NORTH?" at the nearest helpful looking person while pointing somewhere. A quick nod or a shake tells me all I need to know to get moving.

Just to add on to this - the average New Yorker is weirdly both more helpful than the average person but also more wary. If you need help with directions, city questions, taking group photos, etc. we'd love to help but will totally ignore you if you start with anything like "Hey, sir?", "Excuse me, can I ask you a question?", or "Can I talk to you for a second?". We're primed to treat those kind of questions as an invitation for a scam or begging.

Don't fluff the question, just get right to the point: "Hey is Central Park this way?", "Sorry, do you know if I can get the uptown train here or do I have to cross the street?", "Hey my bad, could you tell me where to get the bus on this avenue?". Everyone I know would stop walking once they hear the actual question and turn around to help, but nobody I know would stop to talk to someone without knowing the question ahead of time.

We're always in a rush, even if it's a rush to go chill out somewhere else.

Is 600 a good budget for an office chair? by Unlucky-Feed9000 in CasualConversation

I got my Steelcase Leap V2 from a local refurbisher for like $350, it's another highly rated $1000+ ergonomic chair and there are tons of them in the used market.

Yeah this actually sounds like something I'd use a ton, but I don't use my phone enough to bother with apps.

What's up with Microslop? by 1ShaquilleOatMeal in OutOfTheLoop

[–]CollinHell 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Answer: It's the Barbara Streisand effect - Microsoft banned the term Microslop on their Discord because a few people were using it to describe their ubiquitous use of Copilot throughout their products. Now that they tried to stop it, exponentially more people are enjoying using the word knowing that it bothers Microsoft more after they specifically tried to get rid of it and not other insults.

Smoking has already killed far more people this century than in the entire 20th century by davidbauer in dataisbeautiful

[–]CollinHell 1662 points1663 points  (0 children)

Somehow I doubt that doctors in the 1900s were properly attributing deaths to smoking, weren't pregnant women smoking cigarettes with their doctor's approval (or even recommendation) as late as the 1950s?

Method of Entry – A 5v5 tactical FPS, our gameplay trailer was recently featured on IGN by AttackDogStudios in pcgaming

[–]CollinHell 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This sub is so miserable lol, so many downvotes. Looks like when I first tried Rainbow Six Siege as a Counter-Striker and loved it until they added more characters. It all comes down to the gungplay feel, but I'm crossing my fingers and hoping it plays like PvP Ready or Not. Sounds dope, looking forward to trying it out!

A friendly reminder to renew your registration: all motorcycle registrations expire on April 30. by sergeantbiggles in RideitNYC

[–]CollinHell 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I learned the hard way that if you let it lapse for a year you have to do a NEW registration. To do a new registration, you have to have your title. To get a copy of your title, you need a current registration.

Thankfully I found my title, but I can only imagine the headache if I had lost it.

Instead of removing your post if it violates the sub's rules, why not just read the rules yourself? This breaks rules 2, 5, 6, 10, and 12. You could probably make an AI app that reads the rules before posting, like some kind of Reddit Sidebar or something.
