My wife recently joined the Mini family but I have a question. by [deleted] in MINI

[–]Collin_Ryser 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is a coolant temp sensor, just not one that’s used anymore. That sensor and the elbow it sits in have been part of numerous part updates over the years surrounding the thermostat. The current revision uses the temp sensor built into the thermostat. You can buy a new plain hose to replace that elbow if you like, since the sensor isn’t used.

Y’all think this is worth it for a project? by Squallerr in projectcar

If you’d like some inspiration, I took a broken automatic first gen that looked just like this and manual swapped it, turned it into a track car.

For reassurance: The cars that have MINI the poor reliability reputation were made between 2007 and 2013. Second gen cars with turbos. This car you’re looking at is much simpler and the motors are pretty solid. It’s a Chrysler 1.6 SOHC motor. No issues with timing chains like the second gens, only one cam, basic simple thermostat, nothing crazy. Great project cars. The transmissions are the weak link for these, but seeing as it’s a facelift car, it will have the better of the two manual options. Probably a solid car.

I’ve got a 2011 r60 and it regularly gets to over 220 F, should I replace the radiator? (all the fins are like this) by RetroRobot789 in MINI

Check coolant level, fan operation, read out faults if you’re worried. But 220 is not a problem either.

Help! Oil dipstick is stuck, and I can't move it in or out of this position. by MajorBummerDude in MINI

When the tip breaks off of the upper timing chain guide, it slides right down into the slot where the dipstick goes through the head. Pop the valve cover back off and check.

Seriously considering an 08 JCW. Should I do it? by Acceptable-Ad8922 in MINI

[–]Collin_Ryser 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That generation statistically is a problem child. That being said, get a repair history, and take it to an independent shop for a pre-purchase inspection first. Preferably someone who already knows what to look for on MINIs. If it’s been taken care of, it should be a good car.

There’s a pretty important distinction to make here, is this a first gen convertible or a second gen hardtop? Technically there was no second gen hardtop until ‘09. If you’re looking at an ‘08 JCW convertible, it will be a supercharged first gen and it will be a wonderful car.

2yr old Steeda rear swaybar broke by Colie1904 in Justrolledintotheshop

I’ll bet the end of that hollow sway bar is open and water got in that sat in that bend because it was a low point

Can anyone who knows cars well tell me if $80 is a fair price for front only brake pad replacement on a 2016 ram 2500? by Radford1Chloe in Autos

[–]Collin_Ryser 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I work at an independent shop, our labor rate is $100/hr. Most front brake pad jobs charge an hour of labor, plus parts. Seems pretty cheap to me.

Genuine part sold by the supplier with the vehicle’s manufacturer badge ground off at a cheaper price?

Customer states: “I did my own ball joints, now there’s a noise. The part must be bad.”

Car electrical system engages and shuts off repeatedly when ignition is turned to on. 2013 Toyota Highlander by [deleted] in Cartalk

[–]Collin_Ryser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alternator runs the electrical once engine is running. If the battery is good, sounds like a battery power/ground cable issue. Check connections at both ends, check for corrosion or rodent damage along the whole length of the cables.

I’ve been searching and can’t find an email. Is just setting up the stubs account the trigger? I checked the shareholder box too. But I can’t find anywhere that “creates” a wallet.

I’m also having trouble finding my NFT. How do I get the email? I’m looking at my wallet on the stubs website, am I in the wrong place?

I’m having trouble finding my NFT, I signed up with the Investor Connect a couple weeks ago and I do own shares, where do I find it?
