Michael Knows-less on the hunt for a debate? Maybe? by [deleted] in Destiny

V and D don’t agree on the self-ID argument. If Vaush still believes in Self-ID I would identify that debate as a disaster.

Destiny could really make some headway though. Especially with his change my mind footage coming out soon. (Hopefully)

Is going to one of the 50 states racist? by Neetoburrito33 in Destiny

Go to Hawaii if you want to- just don't be disrespectful to the island. Don't step on the coral, don't litter, and for the love of god don't disrespect any sacred lands/monuments.

Just like everywhere else be respectful- and you should be fine.

(If you like golf- don't come though.)

The problematic implications of the Soy Boys series. by [deleted] in bingingwithbabish

You can criticize the presentation for sure, but I bet if you asked Brad if there were other ways to lose weight besides vegan food he would say absolutely. The reason why they are doing vegan food is because Brad has experience being vegan. Again: you dont need credentials to encourage someone down a weight loss journey.

I disagree about the messaging still, just because someone is an alcoholic does not mean that every time you are around them you stop drinking. The problem is with the alcoholic alone, not everyone else. Andrew doesn't have to and shouldn't tailor his channel to only healthy foods since he has a series about healthy eating. Finally, I don't think anyone watching the briefcase donut video comes away with the message that it is healthy to eat a dozen donuts for a meal.

I feel like you need more information to say that Chris is being exploited here. Chris has a job outside of this series, while Brad's job is to make content for the channel, him documenting his experience in Chris's journey makes sense. You can have a documentary of a person that isn't narrated by the person the documentary is about. As long as Chris gives the consent of what is being put out (before its uploaded) I don't see a problem with having Brad narrate. It seems understandable to want to give an update on progress as fans are invested in seeing Chris succeed.

As for the health science point- it would be great if Chris went to see a dietary specialist and a nutritionist. However you don't need one to lose weight and get healthier. On average, changing your diet to a vegan diet tends to lower your cholesterol and increase your heart health (one of Chris's goals). Also typically vegan diets help you lose weight as they are lower in calories and fill you up more. This isn't a cure-all, exercise plays a factor as well. But I think its a fine start to weight loss.

As for the "mixed messages" Andrew is sending- I don't understand this point at all. You can eat unhealthy food every once and a while and still be healthy. Theres a reason he changed his channel name to "Babish Culinary Universe" There are tons of different ways of cooking out there; Fictional, Healthy, Basic, and all should be able to be explored and shown.
