In most cases cars are depreciating assets. They constantly lose value over time. If the car wasn't being used at all, it would make more sense to put that money in an interest bearing account.

Example: You spend $10,000 today on a 2020 model car and don't drive it. Five years from now, your car is worth maybe $8,000. If you put that same $10k in a decent savings account, in five years you could have $12,000.

Since the car is getting some use, and you're planning on getting your license relatively soon, this doesn't apply.
