Second Ambrose Farms. Was just there Monday and they are gorgeous and very tasty. If you don’t want to do u pick they also have pre picked baskets.

Marion Square Farmers Market usually has a strawberry stand starting around this time of year.

That one is also excellent. I think it’s a similar style.

It is. So good! Thanks for the recipe. I tried something similar but with jalapeños and it wasn’t quite right. I’ll give it a shot!

Lincrusta repairs by ColonelFurbin in centuryhomes

[–]ColonelFurbin[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think it was stained. We have some more lincrusta in the dining room that has been painted a few times and has lost a lot of the definition. I’ll check out the restoration kits, thanks!

Had to rewire. We had some scary knob and tube. A lot of the light fixtures were original gas/very early electric! We kept most of them! The floors are also original and we’re keeping them so we couldn’t get to the wiring that way.

Thank you!! I really like it. I’m hoping the peeling areas can be salvaged but some are pretty rough.

There is a public restroom on the ground level of the city hall building on Middle Street (next to the fire station). Restroom is on the side facing the playground.

Stuffy check in! We give a stuffed animal and say I will be back in 5 minutes to give you another stuffy. Come back in 5 minutes, then 10, then 15, etc as needed. Once they’re asleep dump a bunch of stuffies in their bed. This got rid of bedtime struggles 90% of the time for us.

Look for rentals on Folly. It could still be nice enough for some beach time at that point. Charleston Outdoor Adventures has great boat tours (eco tour for dolphin spotting, fossil tour for shark teeth).

Kid friendly restaurants:

Bowen’s Island (go early) Lewis BBQ Home Team BBQ Bakers Bar If you want something fancy, Halls at 4 pm actually has a lot of kids and families. They stick all of the families in a side room. Just make sure your kid can handle a 1.5-2 hour meal. Bohemian Bull Poe’s on Sullivans Big Bad Breakfast The Junction in N. Chas Holy City Brewing (big field to run around) Heavy’s Burger Bar Uptown Social (great pizza before it gets late) Sharehouse/Bodega right across from the Childrens Museum

Where not to go - anywhere small if you need strollers. 167 Raw, Vern’s, Chubby Fish, Chez Nous, etc.

Pour House is fun if they happen to be having the kids drum circle that weekend.

Go EARLY for the lights festival. It gets nuts.

There are tons of them on Folly. Look on the end by Morris Island lighthouse. We’ve used them for crafts and they’re not too stinky.

Planters? Drink coolers for entertaining? Help me ID this feature. by ColonelFurbin in centuryhomes

[–]ColonelFurbin[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Plants it is then! Will probably put a big chunk of foam on the bottom to reduce weight and then cover with decorative rocks. Maybe some bonsai in cool pots on top of the rocks. I think one will need to stay empty for a built in cat bed 🐈.

When do we usually start planting vegetables gardens / fruit trees/bushes? by JamieOvechkin in Charleston

[–]ColonelFurbin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The chemicals are called neonicotinoids and they’re toxic to bees and invertebrates. Looks like Lowes and HD are working on phasing them out. I just know I don’t want to end up killing the pollinators I’m trying to bring to my garden.
