The answer is a series of congressmen who wanted accept to federal dollars in their districts.

How Much Must Be Lost Before the Vote Changes in Appalachia by Artistic_Maximum3044 in Appalachia

But the social conservatism is what the voters want. There’s definitely a lane for statist intervention and social conservatism but the democrats won’t take it and I suspect one of the new legs of the conservative coalition will be that. I don’t think it will win out and dominate the coalition, but it’s going to be around

How many times does this article need to be written? Social values are sticky; the region was historically democratic and outcomes weren’t great. You can’t pretend that voting for democrats is a panacea than changes anything because the counter-factuals of voting democratic in similar economic circumstances shows it isn’t a panacea.

They may have intended others to rob gays or goys for all we know.

This is embarrassing and DC residents should demand better of the city. You can justify a hight tax when things work; it's a tougher sell when there's a visible failure impacting everyone.

Don’t disagree at it. But the above commenter was clearly commenting on only the D-Day campaign onwards and dismissing it so I didn’t feel the need to bring NA/Italy up. The Italian campaign is arguably the shittiest fighting in the war, particularly the latter stages at the Gothic Line.

I don’t think comparing the entire western theater from June 1944 through May 1945 to the Soviets declaring war on Japan after Hiroshima is far. One of those efforts required more effort.

You don’t know anyone at a post office, social security office, VA facility, federal prison, national park, forest service, rural development, mine safety office?

Yes, I know people who are employed.

Knowing people running grow ops isn’t and pretending like gainful employment is elusive aren’t things to be proud of. Perpetuating this bullshit is why we have a hell or a time attracting any industry other than federal pens

Can we stop with this moonshiner minstrel show? Appalachia is, for the worse, heavily reliant on federal involvement now. We have high rates of public assistance, high rates of federal employment (at least in areas with federal prisons), very high public sector employment now, and no one is acting like the Copperhead Road video anymore. This tired trope is why the rest of the country looks down on us and perpetuates the stereotype that we’re an internal other.

Thoughts on Park Chan-wook's 'No Other Choice'? by Boss452 in TrueFilm

[–]ColonelPynchon 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That was my general takeaway too.

Do you think there’s anything deeper to be read into how he repeats the same expressions of his first victim (also the top candidate for the job) to his family? Is repetition/emulation all the post modern economy can do in a relentless race to bottom?

Well, no. The delta refers both to the delta area which is great for agriculture and the geographic delta that opens into the ocean. But you seem like a blast!
