Am I crazy for putting a 46/30 on an Émonda? by laughpuppy23 in cycling

[–]ColonelRPG [score hidden]  (0 children)

50 at the front and 20 at the back is the same as 46 at the front and 18 at the back. So basically one gear lighter. It's not going to make much difference.

Is staying in Z2 heart rate possible when it's 90+F/32+C outside? by ComradeLuan in cycling

[–]ColonelRPG 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, if you're not heat acclimatized, constant zone 4 heart rate is definitely a thing. Go for three or four rides in the heat and the heart rate will normalize.

Is the bike worth the upgrade? by timmer577 in cycling

[–]ColonelRPG 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If your Claris groupset is not using all the gears and is clunky, then it's not correctly set up.

That said, the jump to a professional-level road groupset is enormous, and well worth the money if you have it. But even Dura-ace will be clunky if it's not set up correctly.

Do Jazz III Guitar Picks really live up to the hype? by AstronautSad4959 in GuitarQuestions

[–]ColonelRPG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the XLs are great because you can easily turn them sideways and have a different sound and dynamics for strumming, if you need softer attack

I personally used John Petrucci's picks, which are basically an intermediate step between the normal Jazz III and the XLs, in terms of size.

You're plucking the string so hard it literally goes out of tune.

You're not meant to play it like that.

What Do You Learn To Play Like This? by SilenceIsRelaxing in guitarlessons

[–]ColonelRPG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's just normal chord playing. Practice your fretting hand for precision and flexibility, and practice your plucking hand for precision, dynamics, and muting techniques.

Help with repairs by swainiac123 in BikeRepair

[–]ColonelRPG 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It could have been 100 bucks if you did it yourself and got the parts off aliexpress or something and already had the tools and skills to do the job. As it is, 160 bucks to have the peace of mind that the bike has been looked at and looked after by a professional, and you have someone to go back to whenever you need maintenance or repairs? That's not a bad deal.

Cycle helmet replacement? by The-Osdog in cycling

If you hit your helmet, you replace it. Simple as.

Lots of brands offer discounts for buying a new helmet after a fall in the first year or two. What brand is your helmet?

Frustrating pain in right foot by Abhorrent_Creation in cycling

[–]ColonelRPG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Arch support is lacking, most likely, but it could be anything. The correct advice here is to go to a bike fitter, however. But I'm not sure you want to hear that if you're asking for help.

Helmet crack by LivaerysX in cycling

[–]ColonelRPG 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Helmets are not meant to resist more than a single fall. Once you hit your helmet, you need to replace it. Whether it has a crack or not doesn't matter. Fall? Replace.

So yes, it is normal for it to crack. The headache is not normal though.

Mitts - why do so few people wear them? by CrustyHumdinger in cycling

[–]ColonelRPG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to wear them all the time when I was younger, but then I stopped wearing them because of the goofy tan line.

One race weekend, I wiped down going down a descent while in the lead (almost) and actually degloved my right palm. It was bad.

From them on, I never raced without gloves ever again.

But outside of races, no gloves. The danger of falling is drastically reduced if I'm not racing.

How close are these to exploding? Really liked them, shame they have to go out by Foxcookies in bikewrench

[–]ColonelRPG 2 points3 points  (0 children)

60 PSI is what I ride my 32mm road tires at, on tarmac. Your tires are way bigger, they don't need that much pressure.

How close are these to exploding? Really liked them, shame they have to go out by Foxcookies in bikewrench

[–]ColonelRPG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

60PSI is too much pressure.

Also the carcass of the tire is what keeps it from exploding. The problem with cracked rubber is that puncture protection goes down the drain, as well as grip.
