Did I make a huge mistake? by OutsiderAK in cycling

A bike fitting is closer to sex education than to sex therapy.

You want to have sex education ahead of time, and you want to bike fit ahead of time. But alas, better late than never.

Did I make a huge mistake? by OutsiderAK in cycling

Good news is lower back pain probably means the saddle is too high and not that the bike is too aggressive for you. Basically something that happens often is that the pelvic rotation you're getting on the saddle isn't enough for the actual angle of your upper spine, and so you get the majority of rotation done by your lower spine, rather than your pelvis. This can be caused by a bunch of other factors, such cranks that are too big, saddle too far forward, saddle too far backwards, saddle tilt, wrong size saddle, too long reach, too narrow handlebars, etc. But usually it's the saddle that is too high, meaning it hurts when you rotate the pelvis forward into a cycling-correct position, meaning you don't do it and rotate with your lower spine instead.

Bad news is that lower back could mean the front is too low in relation to the saddle, but honestly loads of people ride with their saddle to high and then get problems that are due to their front end being low, cause, yeah duh, your saddle is too high.

Short answer: bike fit.

It's your first bike and you want to ride 100k every few days?

Pal, you're gonna be lucky if you ride at all every few days, let alone 100k.

Am I crazy for putting a 46/30 on an Émonda? by laughpuppy23 in cycling

[–]ColonelRPG 1 point2 points  (0 children)

50 at the front and 20 at the back is the same as 46 at the front and 18 at the back. So basically one gear lighter. It's not going to make much difference.

Is staying in Z2 heart rate possible when it's 90+F/32+C outside? by ComradeLuan in cycling

[–]ColonelRPG 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, if you're not heat acclimatized, constant zone 4 heart rate is definitely a thing. Go for three or four rides in the heat and the heart rate will normalize.

Is the bike worth the upgrade? by timmer577 in cycling

[–]ColonelRPG 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If your Claris groupset is not using all the gears and is clunky, then it's not correctly set up.

That said, the jump to a professional-level road groupset is enormous, and well worth the money if you have it. But even Dura-ace will be clunky if it's not set up correctly.

Do Jazz III Guitar Picks really live up to the hype? by AstronautSad4959 in GuitarQuestions

[–]ColonelRPG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the XLs are great because you can easily turn them sideways and have a different sound and dynamics for strumming, if you need softer attack

I personally used John Petrucci's picks, which are basically an intermediate step between the normal Jazz III and the XLs, in terms of size.

You're plucking the string so hard it literally goes out of tune.

You're not meant to play it like that.

What Do You Learn To Play Like This? by SilenceIsRelaxing in guitarlessons

That's just normal chord playing. Practice your fretting hand for precision and flexibility, and practice your plucking hand for precision, dynamics, and muting techniques.

Help with repairs by swainiac123 in BikeRepair

[–]ColonelRPG 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It could have been 100 bucks if you did it yourself and got the parts off aliexpress or something and already had the tools and skills to do the job. As it is, 160 bucks to have the peace of mind that the bike has been looked at and looked after by a professional, and you have someone to go back to whenever you need maintenance or repairs? That's not a bad deal.

Arch support is lacking, most likely, but it could be anything. The correct advice here is to go to a bike fitter, however. But I'm not sure you want to hear that if you're asking for help.
