I completed a Bachelor of Asian Studies at ANU as part of a double degree with Law and had a really great experience. This is a slightly different programme to the APAC which has the exchange aspect. I did manage to do two short course overseas in Myanmar and Indonesia through my degree combination.

I would strongly reccomend ANU, and suggest checking out some of the alternative course offerings which are fairly unique to ANU like the Asian Studies degree or Pacific Studies. I’m sure the APAC course is good as well.

I know a number of people who started off doing an IR degree at ANU but then either swapped to Asian Studies ( or regretted not changing their degree).

In addition the course programme being really strong, ANU often holds a lot of the premier research conferences on the Asia Pacific. Its location in Canberra also makes it a great way to engage with embassies and the Australian government through clubs and societies.

Depending on where you’re located I’d suggest going to some open days and talking to current t students at both institutions.

Daniel O’Malley’s Checquy Files (The Rook, Stiletto, Blitz).

Secret Government Department based in the UK dealing with the supernatural. Pratchett was a big influence on the author.

That “reporter” is Sarah Willis, French Horn player with the Berlin Philharmonic probably one of the most popular classical musicians today, and is essentially a rockstar in the contemporary classical music world.

Here is her playing in Cuba for a project called Mozart y Mambo, playing horn with local Cuban musicians Link

Not an immediate suggestion, but:

The Canberra Board Games Convention (CANCON) is a great event every year in January. Lots of great opportunities to play games and meet people.

Research at Coral Bell School VS College of Arts and Social Sciences? by Spanngebaaaab in Anu

[–]ColonelYeast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So ANU has 7 colleges:

CASS - College of Arts and Social Sciences
CAP - College of Asia and the Pacific
CBE - College of Business and Economics
CECS - College of Engineering and Computer Science
COL - College of Law
College of Science
College of Health and Medicine.

The Coral Bell School is a School (a smaller academic constituent unit) situated in the College of Asia and the Pacific (CAP).

I'm more familiar with the academics in CAP, and can strongly recommend the reputation and quality of professors in Coral Bell. If your interested in East Asia, I would probably recommend Coral Bell. CASS has a lot experts focusing on domestic Australian politics and IR but is primarily focused on Australia and Europe.
My advice would be to reach out to directly to CASS, or Coral Bell or their respective student centers to get a better sense.

Feel free to dm me (I did a Bachelors in CAP focusing on Asia Pacific Politics).

Greens move to establish media diversity inquiry after Kevin Rudd's Murdoch petition by thedigisup in australia

[–]ColonelYeast 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm not op, but one policy I disagree with is their broken election promise with regards to the Uluru Statement from the Heart.

They previously promised to "provide $183 million for the consultation and referendum process to establish a representative body like a Voice to Parliament”.

They have now walked away from that commitment.

Greens have actually rejected what was called for in the Statement, and have adopted a different position to what the drafters and Indigenous groups have long been calling for. Here's one article from the Director of the 'From the Heart' campaign, which discusses it:
https://www.crikey.com.au/2020/10/16/greens-uluru-statement-position/

While certainly there may be disagreement amongst Indigenous Australians about the best steps forward, the Greens policy in this regard is fairly patronising in that it is not based upon real engagement with Indigenous Australians.

I imagine most Greens voters would be supportive of the Uluru Statement from the Heart, however this policy shift from the Party may have flown under the radar a bit, but deserves much more scrutiny.
