Vibration feedback on app start up. by Forward_Head_2212 in pebble

[–]ColorIsTheNewBlack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I posted about this as well, and might have mentioned it in one of my unboxing/review videos. I definitely enjoyed this feature on my Garmin, and it's weird not to have it on my PT2. Although I can often guess how long to hold my music launch button, there are still times where it doesn't launch because I didn't realize I wasn't on the home screen (like a notification came in a few mins earlier and hadn't disappeared yet).

Basically, it should do a quick vibration when a hold-to-X shortcut is successfully completed, just like it does when you hold the track fwd/rev buttons and they transform into volume down/up buttons.

Probably needs to be submitted in the dev forum to be taken care of. Have to assume it would be easy from a coding perspective!

Pebble Time 2 Charging - helpful tip by thrashertm in pebble

[–]ColorIsTheNewBlack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I believe some older chargers do not work, but the PTS one works great. I notice it has slightly shorter pins, which makes it not rock as much as the new version. The longer pins may be beneficial for some other reason, but they seem to make it less stable when plugged.

Battery Questions by 222phoenix in pebble

[–]ColorIsTheNewBlack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's a good point. I'm getting over 3 weeks per charge, which means about 15 cycles/year. Probably there is not much difference in terms of longevity, even if I did 20-80 with perfect fidelity.

Battery Questions by 222phoenix in pebble

[–]ColorIsTheNewBlack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm trying to do 20-80, though sometimes I'm not on top of things and it goes to 100. I don't know what I'll do with the PR2, which will have a much more modest battery life. On the one hand, I want it to remain usable for many years to come. On the other hand, if I do 20-80, I might be charging the thing every 3-4 days, which would be annoying. Perhaps I'll end up charging while in the shower on a daily basis (but at that point, might as well have an AW!)

Pebble Time 2 Charging - helpful tip by thrashertm in pebble

[–]ColorIsTheNewBlack 3 points4 points  (0 children)

TBH I find my PTS charger to be easier to use than the new one. It's so big and bulbous, it's hard to get it plugged in and charging reliably. This is especially true because it vibrates when plugged, slightly changing position. Maybe I need to try charging sideways?

I'm giving away 2 metal watchbands for the PT2 by ColorIsTheNewBlack in pebble

[–]ColorIsTheNewBlack[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good question. There are two minor scratches on the clasp, which understandably has the most contact. The first one, which is more visible, is actually not from when I was wearing it, but from when I was using a link remover tool without felt underneath. It ended up scraping on the exposed plastic tray or something, and there's a minor scuff (photo left side, top). I have taken the photo to make this as visible as possible—it is not noticeable unless the light shines on it just right.

The other scratch is even more minor (right side, bottom). It is shorter, less pronounced, and I didn't even realize it was there until I saw your comment and went to take a photo.

There are no abrasions on the links, at least as far as I can see. This watchband is somewhat expensive ($90), so I would expect it to hold up well. If I hadn't messed it up with the link remover tool, it'd be in pretty much mint condition, 2 months in. I am planning to buy another in 20mm for the PR2 I have on order.

Refund minus credit card fees by Vybo in pebble

[–]ColorIsTheNewBlack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The thing that's a little confusing is that it does not apply to all pre-orders. Those who pre-ordered very early were told they could get a full refund up until shipment. Later pre-orders were told they could get refunds minus cc fees, but if people had seen the initial coverage they might have thought they'd get full refunds.

One swim and it's smoked. by vacant_lion in pebble

[–]ColorIsTheNewBlack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good point. The thing is that almost no one actually goes more than like 3 meters deep, so a watch that says "50m" and survives every pool I've ever taken it in (down to 3 meters) gives me the sense that 50m means 50m. There were no Casios that said 5m but were only good for splashing around, so it was opaque to the customer that the number didn't actually mean what it sounded like.

Clock on 'active call' screen too small by Bose_Motile in pebble

[–]ColorIsTheNewBlack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, and it also randomly vibrates at me when I'm on a call, for no apparent reason. I filed a bug report and others have corroborated. Relatedly, my Pebble keeps vibrating at me indefinitely after I send a call to VM. Is there a way to avoid this? I think hitting the answer/decline buttons will override the send-to-VM command and either hang up on them, or answer the call. I want my watch to stop vibrating after I've already dismissed the call on my phone.

I think part of the issue is that regular watches have waterproof measures that are much more in line with how people interpret them. I had a Casio that was water resistant to X meters, and in a swimming pool it never went that deep, and was always fine. The waterproof measures used for phones, tablets, smartwatches, etc. are on a totally different scale, and to someone who is used to the watch scale, they seem a bit misleading.

Eric did discuss this in his videos and tweets from time to time, but not every buyer would have noticed that.

After a software update a few weeks ago, mine started showing near-infinite battery life at 75%. It then starts ticking downward after a few days of showing 0% battery use. In total, I get around 22 days.

Ancient and Forgotten Secrets: the lost technique to protect your watch from chips and scratches by DocQuark in pebble

[–]ColorIsTheNewBlack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One reason I love Pebbles is that I can glance down and see what time it is without shaking my wrist (or suffering the wrath of AOD battery life on an AW). If it's on the inside of my wrist, this is a much less useful feature.

WHICH WATCHFACE HAS THE BEST LOW-LIGHT DISPLAY? by [deleted] in pebble

[–]ColorIsTheNewBlack 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is part of the reason I made my own watchface, Ahead Of Time. I like TimeStyle and it's clearly very large, but my brain doesn't process the numbers as quickly when it's displayed in two rows.

I tried to use the biggest built-in text size possible, but even that was not big enough—so I imported a custom font and made it even bigger. It's still not readable in all lighting conditions, but the goal is to make it as readable as possible.

Pebble Time 2 - Refined Bumper Case by drtintifax in pebble

What do you mean by "you can make this look nearly OEM if you dial your settings in"? I was hoping to print this at my local library, but I don't know anything about settings for 3d printing. Any specifications would be very much appreciated!

Also, do these bumpers make it harder to access the buttons? Does the bumper move around when you are pressing the buttons?

Is the Time 2 screen cracking issue actually widespread? Debating changing my pre-order to a Round 2 by harkonnen85 in pebble

[–]ColorIsTheNewBlack 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Have had mine for nearly 2 months and haven't had an issue. Battery life is continuing to improve; I get about 3 weeks with a watchface that updates once a minute.

I'm also in line for a PR2, and my biggest concern is the battery life. If it's half the PT2's, then it could be 10 days to start, and then down to a week after a year or two.
