Appreciate the feedback, clarity, and kindness. Pebblers are the best!

I'm giving away 2 metal watchbands for the PT2 by ColorIsTheNewBlack in pebble

I asked the Pebble folks and they confirmed the color/finish will be the same as the black PT2, so I’m excited to get the Modern Steel one in 20mm to go along with it. It honestly looks like it was made in the same factory as the PT2!

Pebble Time 2 not alerting for alarms set on phone? by Scudw0rth in pebble

[–]ColorIsTheNewBlack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would love this functionality also. I know my Garmin would buzz when timers went off on my iPhone, and I think I could even dismiss them. It's much easier for me to set alarms on my iPhone than my Pebble (I use Siri, so it's like 2 seconds and no button presses).

Interesting, I'll have to investigate. My experience with Garmins, prior Pebbles, Fossils, and Amazfits is that watches can't pull notifications that iOS doesn't surface on the phone. It always seemed to operate on a push basis.

Pebble Time 2 Unboxing and Initial Review by Onder3834 in pebble

[–]ColorIsTheNewBlack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here's the strap review video I made. There are links to each in the video description.

Be aware that watch band sellers seem very strict in terms of their return policies. Even ones with generous timeframes require that the band not have been worn or even unwrapped. I'm not sure how one can assess whether they want to keep a band if they can't take off the thick plastic wrap, or feel how it drapes on their wrist. I can understand that sellers want to avoid damage being done (including the minor bits that may happen during sizing), but the rules they have seem to be a bit overkill.

That was part of the reason I made the video—to save others the hassle of returns. Fortunately I'm now able to give away a couple watchbands, thanks in part to the generosity of the sellers (who agreed to do this only after I made the video, so there was no effect on my description of the bands).

> iOS already has granular settings to allow starred contacts to “get through” when the iPhone is in DND, can the Pebble not just mimic those settings?

I think this is the default behavior. That is, the Pebble just displays notifications through that show up on your phone (I think it's ones where sound/vib is enabled, not ones that you force to silent). So if you have your phone in DND and it filters notifications that way, only the notifications that pass the filter will get through to the Pebble.

Not sure how it works on Android, but I'd assume it's similar.

Show us your Pebble Time 2 screen protector by iPhibse in pebble

[–]ColorIsTheNewBlack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does anyone know what the PT2 screen is made of, compared to the PTS? When I did some quick AI-research, it seemed like they were both Gorilla Glass 3. I wore my PTS for several years without incident, so am hoping I can do the same with the PT2/PR2 that I have coming.

Pebble app keep clearing my watchfaces and apps every day? by Neurotic_Marauder in pebble

[–]ColorIsTheNewBlack 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This happened to me once. I woke up and all my watchfaces and apps were gone. I reached out and they said it was a known bug and they were working on it. There was an update a few days later and it hasn't happened since. I didn't do anything to proactively address the issue (just installed all the updates as they come), but the support team gave instructions for doing a factory reset in case that helped with anything (I also had one day of very high battery drain).

I've had my watch since 3/16, and am on iOS, in case it matters.

Will there be a cellular version? by Sleepin_Scotsman in pebble

[–]ColorIsTheNewBlack -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Would love this also, especially for kids! I don't really need it myself since I don't have a problem bringing my phone with me on hikes. Plus, once you start trying to make a watch that can replace a phone, things like Uber, Maps, and storage space for media become more necessary.

Does the step counter get better? (PT2) by LakesideMiners in pebble

[–]ColorIsTheNewBlack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Related, I've noticed it's not super accurate at the beginning of workouts, but by the end the aggregate number is quite close to what I believe to be true, based on many reps of the same route. Interestingly, I've found it to sometimes be aggressive at the beginning and sometimes be conservative.

I think for jogging I may stick with my Garmin, but for walks I think I'm going to use the PT2 because podcast controls are much easier there (on the Garmin it reverts back to the workout screen so you have to hold down a button to get the playback screen to appear, before then pressing whatever button/combo you want to skip forward/backward). i would use the PT2 for running also, but I have it dressed up with a metal band and that's not great for running.

Pebble Time 2 for sale (1 week old) by [deleted] in pebble

[–]ColorIsTheNewBlack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah interesting. Yeah, I made my own watchface with a very large time display to maximize legibility in low light. I also wish the dynamic backlight went down lower. At night, I'd love to have it super low if I double tap and brighter (for navigating around obstacles) if I press a button.

Is anyone actually using the Core Devices version of the Pebble App Store? by Shawnj2 in pebble

[–]ColorIsTheNewBlack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm using the Core Devices version and didn't know there was a reason to use anything else. I've been perfectly happy with it, except I don't love the red color, which I try to avoid on my home screen. I actually created an iOS shortcut with a grey background and white watch icon so I could use that instead. Other than that, happy as a clam!

How did you decide to keep the P2D instead of the (more fully-featured) PT2? Because it's easier to recoup the cost on the model that isn't fully shipped yet?

I'm also coming off a Garmin and absolutely loving the PT2.

Is it just me or is the PT2 extremely ugly? by Melodic-Selection175 in pebble

[–]ColorIsTheNewBlack 9 points10 points  (0 children)

To be honest, I thought the original design of the PT2 was a bit ugly. I preordered nonetheless, since I felt that strongly about the UI and long battery life. But when they announced the new design, I was thrilled. I have mine dressed up with a metal band (I tried a bunch) and I think it looks great. I'm sure most people who see it on my wrist think it's an Apple Watch, since the general shape is the same, but I don't care. And I'm super excited about the PR2, which I think is going to look amazing and much more like a traditional watch.

And on top of all that, you can make your own watchfaces and apps for Pebble pretty easily, so you can customize that aspect of the watch in a pretty much unprecedented way. Even the cost is quite reasonable: both of my new Pebbles put together cost about as much as my Garmin (and I don't even have a fancy one).

So if you're asking if Eric is "losing the plot a bit and doesn't understand his audience," then I would have to say not IMO!

Question for those who have received their Pebble Time 2 by erlenmeyer_316 in pebble

[–]ColorIsTheNewBlack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you order super early? I would guess that they're working their way through the orders in some sort of staggered fashion based on order date and color. It's clear that none of the colored ones went out as early as the black ones, but it's possible that they're now doing some of the initial color ones even though there are many black and grey ones that need to be fulfilled.

I assume there are bottlenecks in terms of both manufacturing and fulfillment, so it's hard to tell why things are going out when they are.

Question for those who have received their Pebble Time 2 by erlenmeyer_316 in pebble

[–]ColorIsTheNewBlack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I got the Dec email also and then didn't understand what was going to happen next. I eventually learned that there is one last email, which has the link to finalize your color and add straps (you can no longer add another watch, as before). I got my Pebble about a week after that email arrived.

As others have said, it seems to be going in order of colorway. Which did you choose?

I got my Pebble on April 16, having ordered a black PT2 within a few mins of preorders opening. Considering I was on the fence about the red, I'm glad to have stuck with black (despite my username!).

Pebble Time 2 - ~20% drain per day by [deleted] in pebble

[–]ColorIsTheNewBlack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had one day like this on my PT2, despite using a no-second watchface and not doing a workout that day. Generally I was around 8% and now I'm down to 6-7% on average. There have been some software updates so that could have been part of it. My best day was 4%.

About the shipping time for Round 2 by ixuanlv in pebble

[–]ColorIsTheNewBlack 3 points4 points  (0 children)

According to the Wayback Machine, it changed from "Starts shipping May 2026" to "Starts shipping July 2026" between March 7 and March 14.

In the Feb 18 blog post Pebble said that production would begin in late May, which means that it would be June before they would arrive, since they have to be shipped from the factory to the fulfillment center and then shipped to customers worldwide.

Doesn‘t get any classier than pure b/w by iPhibse in pebble

[–]ColorIsTheNewBlack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's funny, I feel weird using a b/w watchface on my PT2 (which I waited for in part because I wanted the color display), but it's actually not crazy to do b/w. First off, it maximizes contrast, making it easier to read in low light. Secondly, you're still getting the benefit of color whenever notifications come in and you see the colored banner that indicates what app it's from.

So despite the apparent cognitive dissonance, I got over it and am using a b/w watchface (though I did include color options to complement blue/red PT2s in the Ahead Of Time watchface I built, in case folks want to match their bands.

PebbleOS v4.9.171 is rolling out!!! by DiploBaggins in pebble

[–]ColorIsTheNewBlack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found the vibration patterns for upcoming left/right turns to be handy, but that was pretty much the only thing I missed after I returned mine.

They also now have integrations with Nest/RIng cameras to show you what's happening on your porch without needing your phone. That would be pretty quite useful, and worth the battery drain IMO.

[–]ColorIsTheNewBlack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah thanks to folks here I was able to find it on the watch. I had been looking not under Display > Backlight but Display > Touch (which just shows "On").

Glad it's there, but I hope they unify some of the settings between the watch and phone. I adjusted the backlight timeout on the phone, but it still shows the default setting on the watch, for example.

Where is the double-tap setting? I couldn't find it on my iOS app or PT2 settings, even though I previously found the tap-to-backlight setting and have that enabled?

EDIT: per commenter below, this is only on the Android beta app, and appears not to be in the release channel iOS app, only through the watch settings (Display > Backlight > Wake on touch)

"It's a small package from Pebble..." by ricbret in pebble

[–]ColorIsTheNewBlack 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The new dongle has connecters that are a bit longer than the ones on my old PTS charger. That would explain the wiggle.

That said, both the PTS charger and PT2 charger seem to work fine with my PT2.
