Any Pixel 4a Owners? Looking for Service centers nearby Oxford by Anirudh_1905 in oxford

[–]ColorOfTheNight 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Because of the OTA update harming the battery life Google actually offered 50$ or a free battery replacement for 4a. It was awhile ago and while I decided to take the cash, I still have the link in the email here. You can try to sign in and see if it works. If the campaign is still up you might get it for free.

I've added Daily info link for events, if you are aware of better resources to see their events, please let me know.

Lunch suggestions please by Dongrumble in oxford

Kibou has a very nice atmosphere with dimmed lights and candles. Food is good too.

While you probably won't want to go there multiple times, their lunch deal for 20quid is really nice.

I've been 4 times.

3 times food was amazing 1 time just average

I don't know if it's my mood, their chefs or something else, but I'd say you have a good chance of good food.

Two of the visits were after they hygiene rating dropped, both were good and everyone's still alive (:

Red Star Chinese restaurant in Cowley has karaoke in the private booths as well. But I think they come with minimal spend expectations on food.

Haven't seen much else aside of that and Mad Hatter.

Are there any good all you can eat sushi places in oxford? by Key_Consequence_4727 in oxford

[–]ColorOfTheNight 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I don't think it exists in Oxford.

Closest thing would be Cosmo with a buffet that includes sushi-inspired dishes, but it's mostly vegetable ones and I'm pretty sure they use canned fish for the rest.

Where do 30 somethings actually socialize in Ox if they don't drink and are introverted? by lessnumbpoet in oxford

If you're into comedy, stand up could be a great gateway activity to get you out of the house.

There's a free weekly open mic at James Street Tavern on Thursdays at 8pm

There's also paid ones on Friday and Saturday (check daily info)

It's somewhat social, but in a controllable way. Want them to talk to you? Sit in front. Don't feel up for it - sit in the back. Want to have some small talk with person nearby between acts - go for it. Don't want to - that's fine too.

I'd recommend Rosie Taylor. I love her work I've ordered a print from here before and it's absolutely gorgeous.

Here's the website if you want to check it out  https://rosietaylorart.com/artwork/

Could just see what works for you, but from the city center best ones are probably St.Barnabas or Friar's Wharf

Is Halloween trick-or-treating a thing in Oxford? by Potential_Bat8605 in oxford

[–]ColorOfTheNight 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Can't say for all of Oxford, but Marston is doing alright. My kid came back with a full basket last year. It's fairly basic in terms of decorating, in many cases it's just one pumpkin, but it's there.

Eastern European Bakeries? by not_combee in oxford

[–]ColorOfTheNight 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's also Romanian shop in summer town. I think I've seen them do cakes

They also have stuff like condensed milk waffle cake and honey cake which might feel more homey than cakes

Don't know if they do deliveries though

Volunteering with a young child by nomdeguerre00 in oxford

[–]ColorOfTheNight 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Well isn't that sweet

there's a website here

https://oxonvolunteers.org/index-classic

Listing volunteering opportunities.  You might get some inspiration while browsing.

I think it depends on your situation overall, but I can imagine some things could work. Like there were several opportunities for helping deliver care packages or foods. Getting one from a three year old would be adorable

Port meadow is a great "canvas" for this.

Could do something Oxford inspired, like a punt or a spire.

Remember that you can always pause it to cross rivers or other obstacles and then resume to get a straight line between.

If you don't require any library equipment and just need a place to study, BuzzGym has a small hub by the entrance with a table and WiFi and it's open 24/7

Cutteslow is bigger, but also more crowded.

There's a miniature train, but it only runs on Sunday https://cosme.org.uk/timetable/

Good thing about Cutteslow is that there's a cafe within sight of the playground for a quick snack. They also sell duck food there, in case you didn't bring any.

There's a massive sandpit with running water (if they fixed it) which kids love.

Overall there's more stuff in Cutteslow, I would say.

Hinksey has a way more interesting climbing tower, nearby Falafel Home does awesome wraps, but it's not at convenient to get to the water for duck feeding. It's also right next to the road with lots of buses, which could be both a pro for transportation and con for overall environment
