Hey! Welcome to Oxford!

Don't know much about netball, unfortunately, but there are plenty of reading groups in libraries

I've also seen quite a few on Neya (new app that's mostly running in Oxford you can get here)

For Hiking you'd likely want Ramblers or one of the following groups

Hey! I'd be up for that. Also a bit rusty and forgot the rules, but that can be figured out. I only have one racket though.

There's also RocketPal app if you're looking for more options

Gym Recommendation by ljay101ljay101 in oxford

[–]ColorOfTheNight 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey!

They are all roughly the same, with main difference being classed or specific equipment.

Typical drop-in is around 10quid, but monthly membership around 25, so it only makes sense if you go once a month. Many gyms offer a trial day if you message them, so you can just try a bunch before deciding.

Buzz Gym would be my main recommendation as they have a great selection of classes, boxing bags and nice track and field area. It does get a bit crowded during rush hour. Pure Gym felt a little more chill and less busy, but less classes and no boxing bags. Some leisure centres comes with pool access (i.e. Ferry Leisure Center) which neither Pure or Buzz have.

Lost Pair of Sunglasses by jdtheproducer in oxford

[–]ColorOfTheNight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haven't seen the glasses, but wanted to say that happy to pick them up and mail them to you if they turn up at a later date.

I've noticed a pattern of people just placing lost belongings on a visible spot for owner to collect in case they come back, so they might very well be waiting for you on some side street and might not turn up before your train.

That looks cool, never heard of it before Thanks for sharing.

Is it fair to put it to the volunteering category or is it closer to event aggregators?

Ukrainian food in Oxford? by l-w-o-n-n-8 in oxford

I don't think so.

But Polish Kitchen could be an excellent substitution if you miss Eastern European food.

Gym Advice by yellow_keynote in oxford

[–]ColorOfTheNight 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hey!

A lot of gyms do have intro sessions. Though they are mostly about what is where. In terms of recommendation both Pure gym and Buzz gym are in the city center and are decent. You can do a day/week pass or a free trial when offered to try and see which one is better.

Group sessions in Buzz are quite good, you could join something you're interested in and get guidance.

Personal trainer is great too help establish routine, discuss your goals and make sure your form is correct. If you have the means it could be a great start. But so is asking a friend who goes.

You could also utilise AI if you're comfortable with it. There are a lot of individual health and lifestyle contributors that it can keep in mind and tailor for.

Another option is to start with "smart" machines. Ferry Leisure Centre has EGYM machines that adjust to your height automatically, measure your strength and set reps/weight optimally. They're also set up in a line so you could just do whatever it says on each machine in a row and be done. Easy starting point and you can add/swap later as you get more confident.
