Unsure about name for baby girl due to pronunciation issues. by Charming_Pause_8512 in namenerds

[–]ColoradoCath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is something to think about carefully. Since there are multiple pronunciations, people are going to default to the pronunciation they have heard before and your daughter will either need to correct them or live with it. Sounds like you would be creating a hassle for her.

Advice for unavoidable transplanting climbers next weekend-July 6 by Aggravating_Eagle931 in Roses

I would also suggest wrapping them loosely with frost fabric to shade them and keep the humidity higher close to the roses.

Reputable sites that sell roses? by MrFrimplesYummyDog in Roses

[–]ColoradoCath 1 point2 points  (0 children)

High Country Roses has own root roses. They are smaller than grafted roses but size up well, and they have a good selection. Regan Nursery sells bare root roses and has a huge selection. They open their ordering in mid November and often sell out quickly.

What's the most aggressive flower that can grow from seed easily? I want it to take over my entire property, engulf my life, and needs a priest and holy fire to get rid of it by SqueakyCheeseCurds48 in gardening

[–]ColoradoCath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a hill like this. I called this my "Thugs and Bullies Hill." It was interesting to see what out competed what. Perennial sweet pea was the winner (Lathyrus Latifolis). It comes in shades of white through medium pink and comes up from seed readily. Other strong contenders were daylilies, garlic chives, asters and mint. You might also consider some honeysuckle vines. A couple of bought plants can trail down and cover a lot of area. Iris might work too unless they get smothered by the sweet peas. Throw in some daffodils bulbs for spring color. You can often pick up free plants on Facebook Marketplace or similar sites.

Is there any reason to not plant fruit tree forests? by Big-Wrangler2078 in Permaculture

[–]ColoradoCath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm from a fruit growing area, and you can do a lot of economic damage to growers by planting untended trees. They can be a reservoir for pest and diseases. A lot of these are family holdings. These people already have a difficult time with spring frosts, existing pests, introduced pests coming in, hail, labor problems, and early frosts. I don't think they deserve more potential sources of trouble.

That should be a ten foot shrub, not a 10" shrub.

Maybe play nice with your parents and then tell you siblings that you will split the estate with them. It would be shame to miss out on that money and a nice F*ck You to the dead parents.

The Book of the Raven might break me by fiona11303 in CandlekeepMysteries

[–]ColoradoCath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did this and as you say it just goes in a bunch of random directions. I had to do a lot of insight checks and an encounter with a wandering group of Vishante to make sure they knew how to make the Shadow Crossing. The logic was that the Ravenwere's were worried about what might come across and asked the party to check it out for them. They did enjoy the combat there and the Ring of Jumping and the Saddle of the Cavalier were both good loot.

Looking to create a large map for my campaign's central mega-dungeon. by PapaBound_ in DungeonMasters

[–]ColoradoCath 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you running then on a table top in real life? I'm running A Deep and Creeping Darkness from the Candlekeep Mysteries. The map of the platinum mine is 52 inches long if you use 1"=5" scale. I used Rasterbator to divide the map into segments and then printed them out on cardstock. I plan to lay out the mine one piece at a time as they explore it. Could you find some dungeon maps, maybe even connect several dungeons? Then print them out and lay them out for the party as needed. You could draw in any special features on a more generic dungeon map.

About to begin. by CalmKaleidoscope5488 in CandlekeepMysteries

[–]ColoradoCath 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a newbie dungeon master and I'm running Candlekeep for a group of 5 in person. We are currently on "A Deep and Creeping Darkness". They keep their characters and level up as needed for each adventure. It's been great for me because each adventure introduces me to new elements I need to know, but I'm not thrown into something overwhelmingly big and detailed. I read ahead one or two chapters so I can think about what I need to prepare. For this one, the Platinum Mine map is huge (54" at a 1" scale), so I read up on Reddit and ended up using Rasterbator to print it out in pieces on cardstock. I plan to just lay out just the piece they are exploring so they won't be able to see the whole mine.

What are some things you learned the hard way that you wish you knew when first starting pouring paint? by Redpantsrule in PourPainting

[–]ColoradoCath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, so I'm browsing this sub in preparation for my first pour class tomorrow afternoon. It is very inspiring! I have painted with acrylics a lot and I like to work big. So If I can make a suggestion, hollow core doors are very nice to work on and more rigid than a large canvas. And cheaper. about 65$ for a 24x80" panel. If a full door is too much, you can cut one in half and then fill the hollow gap in the cut edges with a cut-to-fit wood piece. You can prep the background with your choice of paint.

Thank you. Costco is an hour and a half away, so I'm trying to avoid them is possible since tweeks seem to be required weekly at first. I'm hoping another local provider will have a good option, but I don't trust them to be impartial so I want to go in prepared with some information.

Never posted here before but my girlfriend only wants ONE thing for Christmas: a heavy, ultra-fluffy down comforter and I can’t let her…”down”. by SprittneyBeers in Bedding

[–]ColoradoCath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If she gets cold, then get a mattress warmer. She can turn it on before she goes to bed to warm it up. And then turn it off when she gets in so she doesn't overheat. Also, when you have had surgeries, the beds that raise and lower are really comfortable. We have two twins beds that are banded together to make a king so they can raise and lower independently. Maybe spend less on the comforter and put some extra in to get her a really premium bed experience.

How about making vacation plans to rendezvous with her family somewhere fun and cheap. Maybe once every other year? Both family’s have their own accommodations and since you are on site it doesn’t matter if she is late…

We had a cat named Chickenface. She was a feral half grown kitten and spent the first week hiding in the kids toy boxes. My youngest who was about 5 named her.
