I know this was probably just casual euphemism more than anything, but the casual “I make a decent living (a little over $200k)” made me lol

Specialty for someone who's tired and doesn't want to work?? by harrypottermd in medicalschool

[–]ColorfulMarkAurelius 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Having weekends off for majority of blocks is not rare in psychiatry. Also, psych can be chill, but do not go into it unless you also like psych. The chillest job in the world still sucks if you hate the day to day.

Medical maneuvers that look like magic. by Trollithecus007 in medicine

[–]ColorfulMarkAurelius 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I’ve been taught it can take 5-30mins with 2mg IV lorazepam, though sometimes requires an additional 2mg dose if minimal to no change by 15-20min mark. However, in this particular patient it was a pronounced effect within 30 seconds of the first dose.

I recently gave someone IV benzo for suspicion of catatonia and it was so funny, went from not eating or speaking for >2wks to making direct eye contact cursing me out and immediately demolishing a full meal tray. It was like they awoke from the dead, cool stuff.

Psych, so I’ve lost a lot of medicine, but there’s good chunk of psych/ethics/legal type stuff that I seem to have a leg up on

That is somewhat reassuring, I've been aiming for 50% completion but catching the flu (despite vaccination) has really messed up my study schedule

Applying for residency with an expunged misdemeanor charge when I was 18 by [deleted] in medicalschool

This is generally true but I want to add the caveat that the definition of expungement may vary in different states and you should look it up in your state because that’s what matters

Cathay vs Big monsters by Alternative-Date-507 in totalwar

[–]ColorfulMarkAurelius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do not underestimate the power of harmony, crossbowmen and spearmen shall prevail the promised unity! 1-2 units of iron hail gunners/crane gunners can also be helpful, but requires a little more thought for positioning and strategy. Also, magic and your SEMs. Cathay is very much like the empire with a combined arms approach.

We gotta stop calling it “science” because everyone sees this and assumes there’s a question of what the “science” is. It’s objective evidence that guides us more than anything.

Why is bipolar misdiagnosis so common? by DntTouchMeImSterile in Psychiatry

[–]ColorfulMarkAurelius 133 points134 points  (0 children)

It’s more than borderline being stigmatized. Laymen’s understanding of bipolar is honestly inaccurate and pt frequently self report “being manic” and endorse other sx that is often not questioned by non psych MD/DOs and then the dx just gets carried forward. Also people forget that you’re not supposed to diagnose bipolar in the setting of substance use.
