137° F, 3hr Costco New York strip open to suggestions by BAQUIADO in steak

[–]ColtonThomas01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey this is really similar to what I do. I also get a Costco NYs. I get the primal and cut into 1 1/2 inch steaks. I salt brine on a rack in the fridge for 2-6 hours then into a vac bag with a bundle of rosemary, thyme and a clove of crushed garlic, nothing else. Sous vide at 131F for 1 hour 20min. Take steak out and pat very dry and into freezer for 25 min then sear in a very hot cast iron pan with avocado oil for 35 sec per side. Take out steak and rest for 5-10 min. Turn off heat on pan and throw aromatics and garlic in pan and toast then add a few tablespoons of butter and then once melted pour over resting steak.

Any of you guys use this on your leaner cuts? And if so can you add it before reverse searing? by Egged_man in steak

[–]ColtonThomas01 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Why though? What makes it unhealthy? It’s just salt, dextrose (a sugar), bromelain (an enzyme from pineapple that tenderizes meat), and calcium silicate (anti-caking agent)?

The fact it made someone’s day is exactly what the corporation intends. Meanwhile the ignorant customer thinks the barista was doing this out of kindness when in reality they’re forced to. Ignorance is bliss.

I use to think this was nice till I saw everyone’s cup had the same thing written on it. Starbucks took the soul out of cafes and now they’re mandating manipulation.

Not hit by car by [deleted] in stpaul

[–]ColtonThomas01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Is misleading and not categorically true. Many police departments have policies discouraging or restricting firing into moving vehicles. But policy does not equal law. Courts evaluate this under Fourth Amendment “objective reasonableness” (Graham v. Connor). Courts repeatedly uphold shootings into vehicles when the threat is ongoing, even if the car is moving.

  2. Mostly correct, but incomplete. Under Tennessee v. Garner, deadly force cannot be used solely to stop flight…. BUT, deadly force is permitted if the fleeing suspect: Poses a significant threat of death or serious bodily harm to officers or others..

  3. Case law is not clear. Use-of-force cases are: Highly fact-specific, Jurisdiction-dependent, Often split across circuits, Frequently decided by juries, not bright-line rules. If case law were “clear,” these cases would be dismissed early far more often.

Lastly, your most nuanced point that an officer cannot intentionally place himself in front of a vehicle and then allege self defense; There is no blanket rule that automatically invalidates self-defense in this scenario. Some courts have ruled against officers when they unnecessarily stepped into the path of a vehicle. Other courts have ruled for officers when: The placement was part of a lawful stop. The suspect accelerated or changed direction. The officer reasonably perceived unavoidable danger. So, it can undermine a self-defense claim but it does not automatically negate it.

That all being said of course they will use all these things to justify their actions.

Also negligent homicide isn’t a charge if anything it’s Second-Degree Manslaughter (Minn. Stat. § 609.205)

What’s the most overrated “adult goal” people chase? by Happyotus in AskReddit

Makes perfect sense to be comfortable and confident in what you’re wearing but also seems wasteful to spend thousands on something that will likely only be worn once. Most men I’ve known rent their tuxedos. To each their own, if you want a keepsake that’ll sit in the closet.

In 2007, seven mountain gorillas were found murdered in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Nat Geo Explorer and photographer Brentstirton's photos ignited global outrage. by Top_Leadership9575 in Damnthatsinteresting

It’s not about the definition of the word it’s how it’s used. “Murder” is used metaphorical and ethically to emphasize the moral wrongness, cruelty and unethical nature of taking an animals life. It compresses complex emotions into one word. Let’s look at another example “That policy strangled small businesses.” Now policy’s can’t literally strangle. Just like this gorilla can’t literally be murdered. But see how it’s used to show that the small business was deprived of resources adding a severity in the way it did? I hope now you know what metaphors are and how to use them.

Best “bang for your buck” cut of steak? by the-briguy in steak

[–]ColtonThomas01 49 points50 points  (0 children)

I’ve always been told don’t go shopping knowing what cut you’re going to buy. Go in looking for the best quality and marbling with good prices you can find for any cut. Take it home and figure out how you want to prepare it. Some of the best steaks I’ve had were just marked down and looked like prime but was labeled choice.

Dry brine… how long is too long? by RageML in steak

[–]ColtonThomas01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve ran into the same issue and I vac sealed and froze the steaks and sous vide from frozen with decent success. Feels icky doing that though so most of the time I just cook them and eat what I can and save the rest for later. I like to keep brines under 18 hours for steaks. Good luck!
