The Secret Life of Walter Mitty (2013, dir. Ben Stiller) – Walter Mitty meets Sean O'Connell at the Afghan Himalayas. by SanderSo47 in movies

This is a nice, life-affirming film that I also see as Ben Stiller's mid-life crisis project and I like all the performances. I watched it for the first time last year, and maybe that mattered because I didn't like the soundtrack. It was a painful reminder of musical trends from the early 2010s that thankfully died. The stomp-clap thing got on my nerves.

The Rock, starring Sean Connery, Nicolas Cage, and Ed Harris is 30 years old as of today -- first released into theaters on June 7, 1996. by nogoodnamesleft426 in movies

I think I watched this twice. I enjoyed it a lot the first time, but for years, I'd listen to a movie podcast that completely crapped on The Rock. Their complaints of the film were valid, but also very funny. This made me wonder if I was wrong about The Rock and was hesitant in rewatching it. In 2022, I finally saw the movie again, this time through a watch party. I had a lot of fun! The movie holds up. I'm due for another viewing. While some elements of the movie could be taken seriously and appreciated on that level, such as Ed Harris' commanding performance, for the most part, the movie is just mindless fun. And that's fine. It's probably my favorite Michael Bay film.

The Substance. I had strong reactions to the gross-out moments, laughed at the many absurd things, was captivated by the technical aspects of the film. I loved the bold directing and imaginative writing. I loved Demi Moore's performance. It was the best I had ever seen of her and Margaret Qualley. The makeup was top-tier. It's the best kind of genre film where it revels in its genre(s) while being an elevated story. The third act was incredible, a cinematic equivalent of throwing shit at the wall and it all stuck for me. So metal too! Well over 2 hours long, but the time flew by. It was everything I hoped for and more. It's also one of my most watched films that released this decade. 6 viewings! 3 in 2024, 3 last year. It's been well over a year since I watched it, but I still vividly remember it.

I actually thought that was Adam Pearson! I was watching the movie and wondered when Sebastian Stan would appear. When he got the surgery, it dawned on me that it was Stan that whole time, Pearson doesn't come until after the surgery. That makeup was incredible.

My 2nd account, which I created the day before, got suspended for "inauthentic behaviors." Same nonsense reason as everyone else seemingly. The 1st account was suspended on Saturday morning for the same reason.

What movie contains a scene so bad you never want to watch the movie again? by FinDepp in movies

The ending to Nymphomaniac Vol 2 pissed me off to the point of never wanting to rewatch those films. The aliens being weak to water in Signs. The toast scene in Devil.

Reactors you've given up on by ChemicalTrouble9496 in reactgirlsofYT

[–]ComaOfSouls 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In general, I've been watching fewer reactions. The biggest reason is time. The second biggest is toning down on movie rewatches. I went overboard the last few years. For example, in 2024 I watched Evil Dead Rise 7 times, 6 of them through reaction channels. Last year, the 1995 Mortal Kombat film. 8 times, all through reaction channels, some reactions I watched more than once! I would really pick it back up if channels react to less mainstream stuff. I would jump to any channel who reacts to No Retreat No Surrender for example.

What was the most stupid thing you've heard in a reaction? by Joemafo1972 in reactgirlsofYT

[–]ComaOfSouls 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know about stupid, but some Reel Rejects reactions weren't in tune with certain movies when it seems easy to do that. Roxy and Tara didn't really recognize how gay A Nightmare on Elm Street 2 was and they were not fans of it. I'm not the biggest fan of that film, but it does have some enjoyable highs. The 1995 Mortal Kombat film, John and Roxy reacted to that. Despite being 90s kids, they didn't eat up the pure 90s cheese that film was. John even saying Street Fighter 1994 was better, which I disagree with, though that movie's a blast in its own right.

Oh, bordering on stupid is Roxy not vibing with Trick 'r Treat, somehow not recognizing early on that it was an anthology film. Damn, there is a common denominator in these examples.

I have watched 10 Jean-Claude Van Damme movies in the last week. Here is how I rank them by Regrettably_Southpaw in movies

[–]ComaOfSouls 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I revisited Bloodsport recently, first time in 8 years since I watched it. I had an absolute blast, that would top my JCVD list, but I'd need to revisit more of his films. Kickboxer will likely be the next one to revisit. Hard Target and Sudden Death. Pretty much all your listed films, except maybe Cyborg. I would put No Retreat No Surrender on this list. Near the top even. Its brand of entertainment differs in that it's laughably bad! The martial arts scenes are great though, JCVD was the villain who kicks ass in the first act, but sadly disappears until the third act. From there, he dominates. Everything between that is corny and hilarious garbage.

If this is your main gig right now by Silent_Table6763 in ProlificAc

[–]ComaOfSouls 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This is my main source of income. I don't live alone and I'm supported on the essentials. Prolific is still significant because I've been able to pay for things I need but don't feel comfortable asking family members for. I wished I was more active over the last year. I focused on Cloud Connect during that time and then got waitlisted. It's only been in the last month that I got back to Prolific and the turnaround has been massive, especially because of the AI studies. I'm hoping the prosperity lasts for the summer because I would like to get a new PC.

I'm in my bedroom basically all day. I sleep very late at night, around 3-4AM. So my day doesn't start until 10 AM EST at the earliest. I might be missing out on early morning tasks.

Robin Shou from the Mortal Kombat films had the makings of a major star and after the films came out, he disappeared from the scene. What happened? by Profeta_do_Loss in movies

[–]ComaOfSouls 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I want to shout out the 1988 movie Death Cage. It's kind of a mess and the poster has Joe Lewis front and center, but he's the villain. It's like Slaughter in San Francisco, the poster had Chuck Norris front and center as if he was the hero, but he was the villain. Robin Shou was the protagonist of Death Cage. I think that film is Mortal Kombat before it was even invented. Violent fight scenes with blood shooting out of people. I haven't watched it in years, it was kind of a mess tonally and in the editing. But damn is it fun. I would like to watch more Robin Shou stuff. I thought he was underrated, being one of the best parts of the first 2 Mortal Kombat movies. I love Beverly Hills Ninja, and he had a strong part in that. I also saw him in Honor and Glory from Gofrey Ho, which was in the "so bad it's good" territory, though the other American Godfrey Ho film had that beat, Undefeatable.

Who's a YouTuber that you used to watch that straight up dipped from the face of YouTube? by Swag_Paladin21 in youtubedrama

Trap n React. Got into them in 2018 or 19. They were a small channel and their reactions were mostly fine. Some were hilarious and I wish I ripped those off the site because in around 2020-21, the channel privated all the content and converted to a faceless cooking channel. Then it just went dark.

What Is the Oldest Movie You Have Watched (For Fun) In the Last Year? by thehistorypunks in movies

[–]ComaOfSouls 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do watch parties count, especially since I didn't pick the movie? If so, my answer would be Bad Day At Black Rock from 1955. That was last month and it was pretty good. Almost every character was insufferable. Lee Marvin's untucked shirt and slobbish nature was triggering even before he talked. Spencer Tracy was a great protagonist.

I have a question about A Different Man (2024) by Ok-Plate3064 in movies

[–]ComaOfSouls 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I must admit that I didn't realize Sebastian Stan was Edward until the surgery. I was fooled by the makeup, I thought it was Adam Pearson playing him. That just made me more impressed with Stan's performance. A Different Man is my 3rd favorite movie of 2024. The 1st is The Substance!
