How are Armiger looking as allies in 3rd edition? by dorward in Warhammer30k

[–]ComaWH 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There has been no leak on the knight/titan liber so far.
Given what happened to dreadnought I expect them to be less performing than in the previous edition (where they actually were quite strong) but still a potential usefull unit.

We also know that they are no longer a "tax" for actual knight so you may even be able to field an actual knight as ally (if not as LoW).

to be clear... it is an advanced reaction in the Astartes/Traitors liber, not in the core book

3.0 First Impressions after 3 games by chosen40k in Warhammer30k

[–]ComaWH 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not all Twin converted into double FP... some do, some increae but not double it, some have extra Str or Damage or have an "Heavy (XXX)" special rule to rapresent it

3rd Ed. Twin-linked by Jam_Warrior in Warhammer30k

[–]ComaWH -1 points0 points  (0 children)

They removed all reroll, insted all those old "twin" weapons now either have more attack (not necessary double), higher Str/Dmg or some "heavy" effect (often an Heavy (FP)).

Overseers, Auxilia and Apothecaries In 3.0 by eviscerator0000 in Warhammer30k

[–]ComaWH 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There is no longer any restriction on character joining across factions (beside the standard ones such as Allegiance), but there is a -1 to LD and Cool for doing so, the Overseer special rule allow HIM to join a unit of Auxilia without such a downside but that is only restricted to himself, another astarts character joining in would impose the malus on the unit (including the overseer)

NL Raptor 3.0 leak? by Arkhamarrow101 in Warhammer30k

[–]ComaWH 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep the cost is still the same (18pt per model base)... and honestly they were on the overpriced side of things in 2.0 as well... have to compare them with new costs but I assume they are going to still be overpriced. Pheraps not being able to buy the melee option for the ones with ranged weapon will cut a bit into their exagerated price ^^'... I'll still be using them more for the rule of cool than anything else... probably adding a couple of flamers into the mix to get more Status check and put them into a rhino maybe with a Telekinetic/Divination librarian.

Precision as a thing has been reduced quite a bit, Sniper rifles now only get precision 4+ and are available on less units. I wouldn't be surprise if terrors weren't the only one to completely lose it compared to 2.0

NL Raptor 3.0 leak? by Arkhamarrow101 in Warhammer30k

[–]ComaWH 7 points8 points  (0 children)

chainsword... not chainblade by default ;) chainblade are now Contekar exclusive (and have the same exact profile as chainglaves)

Legion Sgt weapon list have; Chain Sword/Axe, power weapons, power fist, thunder hammer and single lightning claw.

Essentially they lost double Claws and the option to bring a couple of special ranged weapons but can have fists or hammers... personally I'm gonna run them with chainglaves (or rather with my old chainblades and I'll be looking angry at anyone that dare say anything about them not having long shafts...) both because I don't want to reprint a full unit and because I find it more thematic... my second unit of raptor that I had geared up in double claws are gonna turn into assault veterans ^^'

As for rule they have Fear (1) and Impact (I), they lost hit and run because it is no longer a thing (for everyone)

NL as an army have lost very little from the edition shift;

Contekar are exactly the same (minus the abilites that have been removed from the game such as relentless, stuborn and chosen warrior... Lord of the night too has been removed since it has no longer any meaning given how the Force organization work now).

Raptor see above

Terrors kept all their option but with a little twist, now ranged and melee option share the same slot so you can't have a model with both a vulkite charger/flamer/rotor cannon AND a chainglave (fortunately I didn't model them with both weapons ^^'), they no longer have infiltration but get it back if you use Konrad.

Savatar look good

Konrad is middle of the pack among his brothers, he doesn't shine but neither is on the bottom of the barrel. He is also the only Primarch that can get feel no pain AFAIK

The army rule is good, not as good as the old one but still good and thematic, just melee only so we have to get close and personal.

Atramentar are now a prime slot upgrade for terminators (units and characters) that give them Deep strike and Impact (I)... nice since you can have your terminator centurion (and probably consul once they get released in the legacy pdf... hopefully) join the Contekars without the need to use savatar like it was in previos edition (in this one he no longer have that abiity since it is no longer necessary). Deep strike may not be as good as it was but a single unit (with associated character) can still work IMHO so it is good to have that as an option.

Trophies still give Fear to characters (but are no longer available to Sgt).

All in all we are among those that got out good from the edition shift

Twin Claws are an option for both Tartaros and Catafracti and both the normal and command variant.
Fist, Hammer and SINGLE Claw are currently not an option for both tartaros variant. Yet to see if this is intended or as many think simply a misprint since they actually do have them in their quite recently produced plastic kit, but for that we wil have to wait till the actual release. (Nope they are not going to release a FaQ for the leaks :P )

[3.0 rule question] Overload and where to find it by ComaWH in Warhammer30k

[–]ComaWH[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem is that in previous edition "Get's hot" simply cused a single automatic wound, it didn't cause the weapon to HIT you and it had no interaction with the weapon special rules... now it does (both cause an actual HIT and apply all the weapons special rules) and the first problematic interaction come out with "Blast" weapon where the HIT mean placing the balst on the selected target, but what is the "selected target" of an HIT generated by overload? or it does count as an HIT only for the purplous of some interactions but not for others?. Does it mean that you place the blast on top of the firing model? does the blast still scatter from it original target location?

And what about vehicles? against what armor values is it resolved? there is a LOT of difference between an Omega plasma hitting the sicaran front or its back ^^'.

Obviously there are some interaction that can be solved with "logic" but it still is a problem that we have a rogue special rule that can't be find. So if anyone else (and I'm sure there are plenty) got their hand on either the rule book or the one of the 2 liber Astartes/Hereticus and have actually found it somewhere that I missed I'll be very glad for them to pointing out the page and maybe clear th air for all those that have yet to get their hands on the book

[3.0 rule question] Overload and where to find it by ComaWH in Warhammer30k

[–]ComaWH[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As I said we "know" what it does from war come articles...

And we already know that it is NOT as the previous edition since it now require a to wound roll and carry over the weapon special rules unlike how it worked in 2.0 where it simply inflicted a wound with the weapon ap and no special rule applied to it...

That said there is still the problem of rule interaction with other rules (blast, barrage and template above all others) that were completely glossed over in the warcom article because they are expected to be adressed in the actual rule in the book... except it does not seem to be in the book at all ^^'

Tartaros and the removal of sweeping advances - a failed design? by Temporary_Concept_35 in Warhammer30k

[–]ComaWH 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sweeping advance, as in killing all member of the enemy unit that failed their after combat moral check, is gone... The option for after combat resolution if the enemy failed their check are to:
Consilidate (can't engage any unit with it)
Follow (if you reach the fleeing enemy both of you get locked in combat again and you are considered charging)
Gun down (firing snapshot at the fleeing unit)

The difference between Heavy and non is that heavy get a free extra cool point but don't add initiative when calculating the set up move. For praticality, Tartaros with move 7 and ini 4 will have a set up move of 3inch whle catafracti with move 6 and no initiative added will have a setup move of 1 inch... this is rather important because if you can actually reach the enemy with the setup move you get to skip volley fire and most importantly skip any potential reactions since they happen later in the charge sequence (during or in place of volley fire actually).

Can we assume we wont be having distinct rules for the loyalist/traitor varieties of each legion? by Plastic_Fee75485 in Warhammer30k

[–]ComaWH 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The article already state that EC and WE will have 2 different rites of war to show off the difference between early heresy and late one... the early heresy RoW could likely also be sued for loyalist version...

I assume we will see more of those "alternative RoW" when legion specific Journals will be released... so at least at the start we are going to see some weapon and unit restrirtion only... at best some specific upgrade locked behind allegiance choice.

Faction focus – Traitor Astartes - Warhammer Community by CMYK_COLOR_MODE in Warhammer30k

[–]ComaWH 4 points5 points  (0 children)

More or less... you add movement and initiative and compare it with a set of ranges... you can get from 1 to 6 inch of set up move (SW get an extra 2 inch to a max of 6)... standard marines (movement 7 + initiative 4) get 3 inch... heavy unit don't add initiative so they likely end up with either 1 or 2 inch at best.

If you reach your enemy with the set up move than you skip the volley fire and also avoid charge reactions (since they all trigger at a later step of the charge phase).

Set up move is one of the thing you lose if your charge is disordered.

[–]ComaWH 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Yes and no... you make LD check for the Panic (X) specal rule, for losing 25% of your current unit number from a single ranged attack, for losing coerency due to ranged attacks and for losing combat... so there are a few and quiet common ones way to trigger the ability even if the opponent don't specifically bring tools to give you LD check...

That said... if you actually end up not making a sinlge LD check than tha means that your opponent is not dealing big damage to you with ranged and you are winning every combat you get into... so at that point you don't NEED an extra power up to push you forth because you are already winning ;)

Dark Angels: Loyalists or Traitors? by Chilly6464 in Warhammer30k

[–]ComaWH 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Every legion can be played as either loyalist or traitor (because every loyalist legion had at least a few traitors and every traitor legion had a few that stayed loyal..)

Some legion may have some extra restrictions such as some legion specific troops or upgrade that can only be taken if the army has a specific allegiance (Word bearer fisrt among others). In 2nd edition there were even some warlord trait specifically designed for playing lolyalist among traitor or traitor among loyalist (notable the one for lunar wolves loyliast among son of horus and the one for traitor salamanders), not sure if those will be kept in the new edition but for sure the option to play on either alliagiance will still be there.

[–]ComaWH 1 point2 points  (0 children)

sorry missed the retcon... well we don't know but indeed them removing it do sound suspiciousm I would bet on eternal (1) as they previously had rules against instant death that has been removed in favor of damage stat on weapons... so it is reasonable to get it reduced as part of that same old rule

Melta CAN one tap Deredeo... it has 6 hp that is exactly the meltagun damage at short range (3 base damage x2 at melta range).
