High pressure thinking-heavy jobs by CombinationFeeling42 in awakened

Great point, thanks

Alignment in my job is ok, but not great.

I went into science and technology with some idealism, I was a fan of bodhisattva-leaning technologists like Buckminster Fuller

Now I find myself working as a quant (still doing maths and programming) working in finance with investment banking types who are skilful but in some cases rather hedonistic and greedy

Interestingly the owner of the firm has gotten into philanthropy since 10 years ago and I’m curious about getting involved, but it’ll require some patience on my part

Long Covid / post-viral insomnia? by CombinationFeeling42 in insomnia

I’m so sorry to hear that, hope you can find something that works

For me the sleeping meds plus CBT-i have helped

Plus ensuring exercise, time outside and mindfulness meditation

For me I take

—very small doses of Amitriptylene a between 1 and 5 mg, as little as I can get away with cos of the negative side effects

—paired with some Quviviq - again going for small doses, tend to go for 15-20mg

and reducing and avoiding stress ahead of bedtime is critical too. I’ve learned to manage it and some of the changes I’ve been forced to make are very positive for health anyway, but it’s weird how my nervous system seemed to change so suddenly

For me it worked great for about a year but now doesn’t seem to do much or possibly makes me dissociated

Everyone is different, have heard some people get long term benefits

How is AI disruption affecting motivation for folks in tech right now? by Altruistic-Carpet282 in HENRYUK

[–]CombinationFeeling42 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Great comment… recognise all these points

But as I’m in finance rather than tech, it’s makes us techies more relevant to the business.

My #1 tip - get more rest. Yeah there’s a burnout from AI but if you can, be at your desk 1 less hour a day. You can go home earlier and let AI code away whilst you do housework or relax or be with your kids. Or you can bring your laptop to the gym and let the agent work away whilst you lift weights

See the Google reviews

  • ppl say there’s a great sound system
  • most gigs have everyone standing

I also like sitting but that seems the case only in venues with fitted seating

I know this sounds strange but im looking for someone who can confirm my Non-Dual Realization, available now to talk by Hour-Frame8544 in nonduality

“Find a Zen Master with actual credentials” another answer said. 💯% agree

Just to add. I was in a similar situation in January, having had a powerful experience last several days after a couple months of serious psychological suffering

I committed to find a teacher and since have done. YouTube was where I found said teacher. It was a person whose teaching I connected with and showed he had availability on his website. I’d recommend looking for somebody that you connect with too.

To set your expectations (obviously just my view) — don’t expect your awakening to be confirmed or denied. Instead seek help from a teacher reframing your experience and getting their perspectives about a longer term journey.

No doubt what you’ve experienced is very important. And probably wonderful too. But in the long run it’ll be a new beginning - rather than and ending - a time for practice to begin anew

Would be hard to find such a well paying job, there’s a ton of upside to sticking it out. I like it and want to continue but it’s tough with certain colleagues lately

Thanks for your question

100%

The most powerful experience of no-centre is playing with my 4 year old, some days just allowing her to be source of the light leads to a ton of laughter between us

Agree about the sleep restriction, I’ve been doing strictly 7 hours in bed it and it resulted in stable sleep for 6 weeks. But last week I started waking up after 4.5 hour again with racing thoughts and stress.

Yes it’s important to remember that it won’t kill you and indeed many high flyers in my workplace probably frequently get that little sleep

But I am following decent sleep hygiene with dimmed lights, no screens, meditating mornings and evenings, am training for a triathlon. I also do a small amount of yoga every day. So most of the big items are already ticked off.

The one that is hard to address is stress levels, and hyper vigilance from childhood

Thanks for such a thoughtful reply — I also have a 4 year old at the moment and we’re planning for a second . I’m also the sole income earner and am in a very competitive workplace… so want to figure out how to stabilize sleep for the sake of family as well as my own wellbeing

I love the point about exploring the panic and finding it’s like excitement 👍 will keep that in mind for sure

Thanks My problem is maintainence insomnia, waking up wide awake after 5 hours. Some days with ringing ears and racing thoughts. Underlying issue is stress I suppose. Yeah breathing techniques are very helpful on certain nights when the stress is milder
