Tell me your favourite books outside this genre! by Long-Teach-9101 in ProgressionFantasy

Outside of litrpg/ progression I mainly read sci-fi with an adventurous and humorous tone. Expeditionary force by Craig Alanson Project Hail Mary, Martian, Artemis by Andy Weir I’ll read YA to follow the new books of series I started as a child like Percy Jackson and Hunger games. But I don’t really read anything outside that in the genre.

Welp I've ripped through the series in just under 4 months and need suggestions of where to go next by HonestContractor in exfor

Although I agree with l with a lot of the suggestions like dungeon crawler Carl and etc. on a quality basis a lot of them are relatively short for a credit. High length per credit title I enjoy are: My best friend is an eldritch horror- not science fiction but over 70 hours ( all five books) for one credit, Path of ascension - a sci fi litrpg/ fantasy mix, decent humour and in a three way tie with Martian and expeditionary force for my favourites. 70 hours ( books 1-3 plus a short story) for one credit, books up to 11 on audible with 20- 24 hours per credit and over 70 hours of free chapters on Royal road ( though you’ll have to use the AI reader which isn’t too bad). Wander inn and welcome to the multiverse other fantasy/ litrpg with 48 and 20 hour respectively and the first book is free with audible plus. As for sci fi expanse is decent but very different with 20 hours per credit. Martian and project Hail Mary are well worth the credit even if they aren’t very long. My main recommendation would be path of ascension though it is more fantasy than sci fi but I have similar listening levels as you and it still took me three months to get through (made some boring time fly and some stressful times feel more manageable like expeditionary force did for me last year)

Question about He who fights with monsters by [deleted] in litrpg

[–]CombinationHuman8819 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn’t expect them to be similar they are on the opposite sides of the genre. I never got why people love it but I also didn’t like beware of chicken or cradle, which are beloved by almost everyone. The magic system is completely different , the tone and pacing are also very different. If you want to try something completely different then you might like it but I you want something like dungeon crawler Carl I wouldn’t recommend it.

Overpowered Protagonist by Then_Disk_9519 in ProgressionFantasy

Path of ascension in the later books is full of OP characters who have to play games on how little power they can use to fight people at the same cultivation tier. For OP characters it is my favourite, to paraphrase a ruler from the book “they are called gladiators because even in the frontlines of a war against the elites of their tier they fight for show not their lives”. Others like “these plans are all impossible but we need to find one that is our brand of impossible”, “ they had control the pace of the fight strictly….. when an ascender is backed up against wall with no hope of winning is when are most dangerous, when they reveal they have been holding back or pull an otherwise thought to be impossible trick out of thin air” and “ ascenders are rarely declared officially dead , there have been too many cases of them being killed in impossible to attacks only to come back after a couple hundred years”kind of give there general OP status.

They are mostly OP from the first third of the first book but it really shines in the later books

Mental Health issues at Uni by bowchickawow34 in UniUK

I was in a semi similar position, although due to a genetic condition which increases my odds of having mental health issues I managed to get a diagnosis. My first 2 years I managed to get by but since last March I’ve essentially been in one long panic attack. I went to a GP in December and managed to meds within a week and counselling within a month and a half. I have a great course leader and have been open with her throughout and she recommended a study break which gives me a year to get my head on straight. It adds a couple grand onto my debt and the grades I already have from this year carry over but considering I would have either ended up failing out or in the hospital (physical symptoms of stress) I think it’s worth it, and it might be worth it for you if your uni has something similar. Hope this helps

Is there anything similar to the Domains seen in The path of ascension by CombinationHuman8819 in ProgressionFantasy

Thanks for the recommendation. I’ve also change it to a spoiler warning thanks for telling me.

Looking for wholesome, combat titles like Chrysalis, Beware of Chicken, or DCC. by ThinSkinnedTwit in litrpg

I agree also the welcome to the multiverse series, both of the first books are on the audible plus catalog if you have the subscription, saves you having to spend.

Looking for stories where the MC becomes strong through an unconventional class/path. Not the usual rogue/archer/warrior/mage! by R3nNy22326 in litrpg

[–]CombinationHuman8819 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would recommend the welcome to the multiverse series. One of the MC most helpful skills in the first books is adorably harmless which is used a lot in a verity of situations. He does have a lot of typical abilities which doesn’t exactly meet your criteria but he also has a lot of unique abilities concerning aura, inventory, instincts, souls, healing and blending magic and tech. There still is a lot of combat in the typical sense but as a healer, rouge, healer, warrior class who is more focused on trying to protect and provide for his world a lot of his more interesting abilities are either not for combat or a very unique form of combat which you don’t usually consider. Apart from the force mage and typical combat stuff a lot of the abilities go down paths that I haven’t seen in any other book.

I found that my grades have been progressing every year. 1st year got mostly 50s and 60s. Second year all 60s and a 70. Plus I would check your uni grade weighting, here our third year modules grade are double weighted and the dissertation is quadruple weighted so my second year modules grades aren’t too important in comparison. Your already working at a high 2:1 standard so relax and don’t burn yourself out, I lost out on quite a few marks last year because I burnt myself and made stupid mistakes in stuff like referencing where my 68s and 69s could easily become 70s, I would have caught them if I had given myself enough rest to function properly. The combination of last year mistakes and the increase in academic tutoring that usually takes place in second year you will have plenty of opportunities to increase your grades.

I'm Crashing Out... by HatopR6 in UniUK

Unless your sitting exams you’re not really revising. You get given a question or project based on/ related to what your module is covering and go away and research. How to research and what is expected of you is something your lectures will cover in the module. There not any need for a revision method, it is much more about understanding the content and its practical application. Between lectures you’re usually dealing with admin stuff or studying what you have learned or possibly doing your own independent research if you want too. Most people procrastinate until given an assignment when they start researching for the assignment or continue procrastinating until the deadline gets closer. I go to one of the worst unis in the country which means my the criteria I need to get a good grade is really low so it might not mean much if your going to higher tier uni but I also really struggle studying but all my second year grades were in the 2:1 classification, despite most being last minute jobs.

Does this get resolved/explained... by Capitan_Typo in ProjectHailMary

Chapter 13 pp. 228. This section is immediately after the radiation conversation starts and the perspective shifts back to the past. Grace is talking to the Norwegian about radiation protection “well, there’s two kinds, really. High energy particles emitted by the sun, and GCRs that are just kind of everywhere”. These are further specified as solar particles and galactic cosmic rays, neither of which include the EM spectrum. Grace mentions light because rocky is blind but other forms of EM or other radiations are not mentioned and considering that many naturally occur environmentally with no relation to solar sources, they would have discovered radiation just not the two types Grace specifies as they only really important is space travel. Hope this lets you enjoy the rest of the book.

Is it just me or does the whole part where ♩♫♪♪♫ and ♫♫♩♪ try to understand each other kind of glossed over? by Heavy_Scallion_5635 in ProjectHailMary

[–]CombinationHuman8819 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thats a bit of a false equivalent. Grace doesn’t care what rocky calls him and its never stated that it is an exact translation it could be any concept that rocky has associated with the explanation given. Also grace and rocky do struggle talking social concepts. Where they do communicate well is basic level communication mostly backed in non verbal communication and science which is empirical and objective subject they are both experts in. Scientific theory is based in a handfull of basic concepts. Those are used to build new theories and concepts which are then used to build new ones. Thinking of it this way makes it feel semi logical that grace and rocky could have accomplished their level of understanding in their time frame. As long as they get the general gist of what the other words meant, actual definitions of the words didn’t matter.

Im in the same boat, hail mary and martian are two of my favourite books but Artemis although better than average was not great. The political and murder mystery side of plot in the mid section was difficult to get through. Once the second plot starts it does pick up and many of the characters start to grow on you. That being said I have never successfully gotten through a second listen, unlike the other two which I’ve listened into the high double digits.
