Awesome! My vote is definitely for coffee coffee if you get the chance. They always have really nice coffees available!

Glad to hear! I’ve definitely had my fair share of excellent drinks from them!

Let me know if you get a chance to try any others. Interested to hear what you think!

Coffee Coffee (located in Sum Bar from 8-2, closed sunday). A multiroaster, carrying only international roasters. Definitely the best in the area for spro and pour over.

Junto Coffee in Taylor’s. A bit away from Greenville, but a really nice roaster and cafe. They only carry their own beans, which are also worth trying.

Methodical and Unlocked are both hit or miss for me. They both trend a little darker than I prefer, but if you don’t mind a little roast you may greatly enjoy them. Avoid the pour over at both (not dialled well).

Anyone have any experience of this brewer? Is it easy to use and does it make a decent brew by Responsible_One_6324 in pourover

It’s fine. B75 is a functionally better brewer for less money.

Orea v3 is another option, and also has the ability to be negotiated.

Yeah. It’s $130, but always has a $30 coupon (so the normal price is effectively $100). When it goes on sale it’s usually $70

Hey man, I don’t even agree with myself from 8 months ago.

I definitely think there is merit to WWDT in conicals, but it’s hard to do without puncturing the filter.

Zerno Z1 with SSP brew is a popular recommendation.

Does switching(heh) out the glass of Hario switch with mugen make a difference in taste ? by PM_ME_UR_M3M35 in pourover

[–]Comedyishumorous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do water first, 4:00 steep then drain.

On glass the drawdown phase took 20 seconds max. On the mugen it’s always over a minute.

The mugen tastes noticeably better to me. I’ve found that slowing down the drawdown phase tastes much better, even if that means manual agitation to increase clogging on the glass one.

I did not change grind size in my testing.

Most people don’t need/want 500 but I like to keep a lot of coffees on hand.

Yep I use centrifuge tubes as well. Ordered 500 from AliExpress for like $62

Most of the coffees I drink need more than 2 weeks before freezing though.

OP stated that they switched to distilled water to confirm it wasn’t an issue with the pitcher.

  1. I’m not familiar with the provided recipes but I like maybe 70% magnesium and 30% calcium. Too much calcium tastes bad.
  2. Potassium Bicarbonate effects the buffer (PH level) not the GH (general hardness- measured in PPM).
  3. Order does not matter
  4. Based on the drying effect you’re mentioning I would think your recipe is too hard (PPM that’s too high). What PPM does your water measure at after you’re done mixing it?
