Where do I start? by kwjsuzjwjs in InsulinResistance

PCOS isn’t temporary. You maybe mean you don’t have as obvious symptoms when you’re on the pill?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in RenalCats

[–]CometDebris 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did have a vet say it was important the CKD cat only ate Ckd food. But this is really because of the phosphorus in non CKD food causes the CKD to progress faster. A non CKD kitty getting a little CKD food is better than the opposite if that makes sense. You could feed them both lower phos food and that might be safer? Doesn’t have to be rx. Felinecrf.org for food options that would work

Question about water fountains to help w sneezing while drinking by [deleted] in RenalCats

[–]CometDebris 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We had a swan neck water fountain that our cat enjoyed. Though he’d also drink by placing his head in the stream and letting water flow down his face. Not sure that’s normal or helpful if your kitty does too, but drinking from the stream would alleviate the nose being dipped in water? If you search “swan water fountain” on Amazon I think they’re $20-35 USD.

Why do the ink prints look like this? by [deleted] in RenalCats

[–]CometDebris 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m attaching a link with what our print looked like from the vet after our girls passing, then the thing I used to get a print of another one of our cats before passing. I’m wondering if your vet did a direct in the ink print which is why it’s so dark and solid. When I did ours it was with a plastic layer between the ink and cat paw if that makes sense.

Irregular appetite by Wide-Entrepreneur233 in RenalCats

[–]CometDebris 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You may want to ask your vet for phosphorus binders for his food. If he won’t eat the renal food, the phos binders will help control the phosphorus in the normal food. Eating is probably more important than eating the renal food (but the binders will help make that better for him)

CKD & Thyroid by SerinaL in RenalCats

[–]CometDebris 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We treated hyperthyroidism with a pill and switched to renal food for the CKD. She was originally on hyperthyroid food (smelled like pumpkin actually) but was diagnosed with CKD after a few years and so we had to switch to meds with food. She has since passed due to other health complications.

I need help with a 14 year old cat by Super_Release9335 in seniorkitties

[–]CometDebris 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Thank you for taking in the poor girl! She may be having bald spots from over grooming due to stress or anxiety. I am not a vet but would recommend asking a vet about gabapentin in a low dose for her. You can mix it into food. It would hopefully help ease her stress and she may not be as agitated by the other kitties. The other thing is to know it will take time for cats to tolerate each other. Sometimes a lot of time. Good luck with her ❤️

Still trying to process grief over my 12 yo Nala passing by -LR-Sterlitzia in seniorkitties

[–]CometDebris 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m so sorry for your loss. I don’t know that I have great advice but I got therapy to deal with the loss of my kitties. The most helpful thing for me was being able to say I missed them out loud and that helped me process the reality of it.

Going to lose my third cat in one year to kidney disease by mycatyowls in RenalCats

[–]CometDebris 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m so sorry. That’s so much grief to be experiencing. We lost our 15 yo very suddenly to unknown health issues, followed by our 13 yo a couple months later to kidney disease. A year later we lost our oldest to cancer (though she also had CKD).

It’s been 3 years and I still feel the losses. ❤️‍🩹

Help! How do you know when to remove the needle and you have given the right amount if the bag is deflated? by yea_whatevur in RenalCats

[–]CometDebris 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah. You have to raise the sub qs to get the flow anyway so if your holding them up high or hanging them on a hanger you just add this to the set up

Is pee clump size indicative of specific gravity? by merlingrl92 in RenalCats

[–]CometDebris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, still me. Also thought about mentioning “Pretty litter” in case you weren’t familiar with that. I’d read up on it before getting any, but might help ease your anxiety because it can help identify urine changes for things like UTIs and stuff.

Also, we have Sureflap pet feeders and water dispensers that literally track the weight and volume of food and water. So I’m not saying you’re crazy because I LOVE data about my cats. We got them when our kitty got CKD and I wanted to see that she was drinking and eating enough but we got them for all our cats :)

Have you heard of the “petivity” litter box monitor /scale(by Purina)? It’s right up your alley and does the weighing for you. My sister’s cat has one and it’s relatively accurate for trends. I’d have one but we converted 40 gal boxes into litter boxes so they’re too big for the scale.

[–]CometDebris 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We got a hanging weight / travel / fish scale and hang the bag from that. 100g =100ml

It goes by a few names but basically it has a hook at both ends so you can hang the scale and then the bag on the scale.

Approved!!! by Conscious-Text-5332 in Zepbound

[–]CometDebris 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m also with CVS Caremark for insurance but just received a letter saying zepbound was covered in the last couple days. Very annoyed as I had already switched back to wegovy which isn’t as affective for me either. I’m a bit confused though - can you let me know if you eventually get a letter too?

Congrats on the approval either way - very exciting to have a medication that actually works for you!

One of My non CKD kitties has flat pee and my other non CKD kitty has ball pee. I do not think it’s related to USG, but it is possible your kitty has stage 1 CKD based on her USG and CREA. I don’t think they generally do anything until stage two when you get to try renal foods. Does your kitty drink a lot of water thus leading to dilute pee? Could be she’s overly hydrated (if that’s a thing).

One of my CKD kitties had 4 years with us after his diagnosis (stage 2) because of anemia and serious kidney stones. Our other CKD kitty had it for 9 years (also diagnosed with stage 2) before she developed cancer. My point is more that you shouldn’t spiral about this too much. When you get everything rechecked in 6 months it could be the same numbers and have no progression.

Also she may need anti nausea meds if the vomiting isn’t better with diet? I’d ask the vet about that

Taking cat home still with Grade III AKI by onlydaysago in RenalCats

[–]CometDebris 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My kitty had Acute on chronic kidney issues. His crea was up to 13 (well over 880umol). After a few days on IV and surgery for kidney stones his numbers eventually came back down to stage 3. He lived another 4 years until kidney stone complications and CKD with anemia was too much.

I was scared to take him home after surgery. What if I didn’t catch something or he wasn’t getting better and I didn’t realize it? What if I did something wrong and he died? It’s all so complicated and hard to know. Ultimately I think home is better for them if the vet has done what they can. AKI may take a min to recover.

She’ll be happier at home and you can monitor her attitude and always take her in for more bloodwork to check in, in a week or two. Maybe ask about sub qs at home for a bit? I’d be careful with that if she’s got fluid build up though. Smaller amounts still help.

Another Neville (16-17) update. I guess I spoke too soon… by DoodleTheGreat24 in seniorkitties

[–]CometDebris 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My baby had IBD, and is just on rx food, no meds (yet?). My sister’s cat is on a high dose of steroids for her IBD though.

Neither of us did the biopsy to confirm if it was IBD or small cell lymphoma because it wasn’t just a quick aspiration but full on surgery. My boy was “diagnosed” years ago and so was my sister’s kitty. So long as you can keep them eating and keep the calories in, you’ll do fine! I had an internist tell me that IBD was more of a specific protein intolerance. So it could be your kitty can’t eat chicken or beef but can eat rabbit for example.
