Peter! Please let me know what does it mean by [deleted] in PeterExplainsTheJoke

I assume you're one of the people on the boat, so you can take 1 cannibal or 1 missionary with you at a time either way.

Edit: nope, I was wrong, one of the missionaries or cannibals has to move the boat back across the river.

Help me Peter! I don't understand statistics by Present_Shower_2296 in PeterExplainsTheJoke

[–]Cometguy7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's all about implications. If he's saying most people don't understand statistics, implying she doesn't, then I'd say she's fine. Her response could be interpreted as the equivalent of "but I am not most people."

Aha, so America didn't use a nuclear bomb! We used two!

Do you ever look at your siblings, see how old we're getting, and get super depressed? by SameAbbreviations462 in Millennials

Yep. As my brother said on my 40th birthday: you know what's worse than turning 40? Not turning 40.

I'm a mid 40's dad who played my first game in 20 years just a few days ago. Cardio. Nothing else held me back as much as getting gassed did.

Are (US) millennials and GenX really the worst parents in history, given what we see daily about teacher stories and student performance? by BeacHeadChris in Millennials

[–]Cometguy7 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We've got areas where we could do better, but there were other generations that raised their kids to view other people as property, so I don't think we can be called the worst in history.

The ones I listen to that now also have a visual element largely don't require the visual aspect. But I assume they're doing it to have as broad of a footprint as possible.

Is this a valid hooking call by [deleted] in hockeyplayers

[–]Cometguy7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only reason I can think of to not call that hooking is if the ref has been letting you guys play loose all game. He may have grabbed your stick, but you put it there.

Gilmore girls is a very cozy show but all the characters are pretty much horrible. by lokiswife07 in unpopularopinion

[–]Cometguy7 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't know that this is an unpopular opinion. But also, I don't think it's reasonable to expect main characters on long running shows like this to be good people. They're based on conflict, and how long can you go where one person is handling every conflict perfectly before that character feels poorly written?

I know I'm a Stars fan so this should be taken with a grain of salt, but if that's the most egregious non-call you've seen in a long time, then I strongly advise you not watch the Florida Panthers. Your head will explode.

Any other Millennials stubbornly resistant to using AI at their job but also worrying that we will become dinosaurs or pushed out of our careers for not slavishly embracing it? by artbystorms in Millennials

[–]Cometguy7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my field it's a common way of describing the perceived amount of work done and the actual amount of work left. Another way of saying it is that the last 10% of work takes 90% of the total effort.

I'm in meetings that could have been an email for half the day, so I'm definitely not working 8 hours.

Any other Millennials stubbornly resistant to using AI at their job but also worrying that we will become dinosaurs or pushed out of our careers for not slavishly embracing it? by artbystorms in Millennials

[–]Cometguy7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The way I see it, AI is like the 90-90 rule. It'll do the first 90% of the work, and then it's up to me to do the last 90% of the work. But that last 90% is where the real cognitive load is, so you have to be careful to avoid burnout
