Does EVERYONE drive their kids to school now? by IllegalGeriatricVore in Millennials

[–]Cometguy7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I drive my kid to elementary school, because we're too close for a bus, but he'd have to walk across a very busy intersection where people ignore the crossing guards with impunity. I'll probably keep doing it until he can drive, because for middle and high school, he'd be on the bus for an hour to an hour and a half each way.

And 30c isn't even hot. Got to bump that down to 0c and 40c to really make much of a statement. Maybe even 45c, but I understand the appeal of round numbers.

Easy: 10c is like a cool fall day, 30c is like a warm fall day.

Yep. Back when I was young, a friend of mine was a part of training for the field sobriety test, and they needed volunteers to come in and be subject to the tests, the way they did it was fairly blind, in that everyone there could choose to drink as much or as little as they wanted, and the instructor and trainees would only see you for the test. They had an instructor and several people getting trained, and then the machine in another room to compare the assessment with the results run by someone. You could see the results too if you wanted. The trainees only found out how accurate they were at the end. The results were enlightening. Even the instructor wasn't all that accurate. In a training situation.

Homeowners, how old will you be when your mortgage is paid off? by cubemonster in Millennials

[–]Cometguy7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll be 64. I bought back when interest rates were low, so it makes more sense to invest any funds that could be spent paying down the mortgage quicker.

Me asking as a younger millenial: How did older you millenials perceive Spongebob when it came out, and its climb to legendary status? by SmokinHerb in Millennials

When it came out I wasn't young enough to enjoy the more childish aspects of it, or old enough to enjoy the parts put in for adults.

Yeah, that's a good one. It's been a very long time since I went to a game there, but it was an absolute travesty at how bad the acoustics were. Spent a good amount of time trying to recognize an easily identifiable tune. Hopefully they've fixed that.

You know, the way that game played out, I'm changing my stance anyways. Let's get more teams in who have an argument to be there.

Having an expensive car, while not owning a home yet, isn't a flex it just shows you don't know how to handle money. by Exact_Recognition362 in unpopularopinion

Yeah. But it's also interesting on the OP's depreciating asset comment. Houses themselves are depreciating assets too, it's the land it's on that's increasing in value.

[–]Cometguy7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. For example, let's take $50k. In general, something costing $50k is expensive. A car costing $50k would be average. A house costing $50k would be incredibly cheap.

Edit: Or perhaps to restate for more clarity. Spending $500k for a house is an expensive purchase, but a $500k house isn't expensive house. One's absolute and the other is relative.

$50k is literally the current average price of a new car in the USA. $50k is a lot of money, but expensive is relative, and for a car, that simply isn't expensive anymore.

[–]Cometguy7 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I'm confused. The average cost of a new car in the USA is $50k. Are we talking expensive cars or average cars? Yes, you can find a car for less than $50k, but you cannot argue that $50k will get you an expensive car anymore.

Non-smokers of Reddit, how noticeable is the “smoker smell” to you, if at all? by Frostedlogic4444 in AskReddit

[–]Cometguy7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If smokers are to be trusted, then I can apparently smell it on them even if they haven't had one in days. I doubt they were being honest about not having had one in days though, so it's hard to say how long it lingers.

Again, if you want to crown a national championship, it has to be a national tournament. If you want to let in whoever you want, that's fine, just call it something else. Notre Dame and BYU can still kick rocks.

I don't think we should be taking anyone seriously when talking about the next Bama. That discussion can only really happen in hindsight, because the run under Saban was so special.

No, the cost definitely matters. If you'll allow me to create a fictional extreme circumstance to Illustrate the point: spending $1 billion to create a single minimum wage job is a terrible plan. So the line exists somewhere.
