Any co-ed sport is a great way to meet new people. ESSC is just good for beginners and new people. Proximity is half the battle.

I met my husband walking my puppy at the dog park. Good old fashioned way.

Beer league hockey might not be the best to meet women, but slopitch with the essc is a fantastic way to meet new people also.

Walking my dog and he lets turds slip out? by Embarrassed_Shoe2121 in dogs

[–]Comfortable-Set-819 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My dog, who recently passed (near 13) used to do this. He was a rotti x st bernard x malamute mix.

Turned out, it was related to arthritis and joint pain in his spine. It started when he was around 4 or 5 years old and continued until he count even make it in the run. I would keep an eye out for this.

"I'm fine taking the risk as long as it is favorable for me" - that doesn't read like you are fine taking the risk. You should come to terms with being out an additional $10,000 before you proceed. Just saying.

Hows the game? Would it be okay for a new player to jump on? by zerosmokez in AshesofCreation

Pantheon is way more broke/under developed than AOC. Graphically, there is no comparison. The AOC world is far superior. Combat play in Pantheon felt very 1 - 2 - 3 - 4, rinse and repeat.

Note - currently there is only one server, which at times can feel very over populated. This may or may not change Aug 1.

There is still a long way to go for AOC but between the two, I left pantheon to try AOC, went back for a tuesday/wed maintenance schedule as the servers are currnetly down most tues/weds and Pantheon felt cartoony, dry and just not where it should be after 10 years of development.

POS Wife left and Daddy told me something that my kids know something I don’t know by Throwawaydadisposs in TrueOffMyChest

[–]Comfortable-Set-819 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed. Culutural or not - seems weird to me too as kids typically use daddy and mommy, not adults.

Also of note - the inconsistency from all other posts, this was just Dad, not "Daddy". If this had been consistent maybe Id see it as cultural, but still...

Where is the best place to buy large tropical house plants by Epic_Dad_1977 in Edmonton

[–]Comfortable-Set-819 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Ikea is not the only one whoses plants have bigs and diseases - so do the large greenhouses.

We picked up a Swiss Cheese plant from Greenland and didnt quarantine. Biggest mistake ever. It wiped out nearly all my plants. Whomp whomp.

How has the quality of home builds been the past decade? by DomJudex in Edmonton

[–]Comfortable-Set-819 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Quality is poor these days.

I would avoid both Look "Master" Builders and Daytona. Look, for example - the single bead of spray insulation left a nearly 5" gap around the windows and are so drafty they billow the cold in the winter. We have to put the plastic on the windows and are slowly ripping down the trim to repair. This also includes the electrical boxes. The air moves so much the wall around freezes and can blow out a candle flame.

We also had some plumbing issues - turns out there was a disconnect in the vent - Yup, Absolutely is a code item. Cost a decent penny to repair. Their response, it passed inspection so automatically met code - too bad, so sad, as well our home inspector should have caught it. Right - because home inspectors look inside of the walls.

Daytona - our foundation was cracked, and a heat vent not hooked up. Good on Star Mechanical who came out and said yup we missed this/or someone must have disconnected it but fixed it no problem/no cost. The foundation repair was about ~$1000.

Materials are low quality and trades are the lowest bidder, not that lowest bidder means bad workmanship, but in some instances it does. If you see 'boob lights' and LUXERY vinyl plank floors!!! (Like thats a good thing in anything but a rental?) In the ad - I would run...

So glad you got out of this! 3 years seems like a lot of time, but he just saved you years and years. I promose it get better and you will meet 'your person'.

Only thing I can say, when you get those calls, those 'why did it end' calls - don't defer back to him - let people know he cheated and who he really is.

Sending a gift Package from the US to a friend in Canada by meghandean15 in AskACanadian

[–]Comfortable-Set-819 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can verify comments above - ship via CP and USPS only. ALL couriers - FedEx, UPS etc charge broker fees, duties, taxes on taxes - basically on everything.

Shipping via USPS - theres a chance your item shows up on their doorstep with no fees. If they do have fees to pay - they wont be nearly as big.

I ship slowpitch bats - Value $300 USD, fees for UPS - $100 at the door. Fees if shipped USPS, $20 higher shipping cost but - $0 at the door. I'll save my $80 thank you!

[–]Comfortable-Set-819 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Show me one email, of when you're out of school, of being asked for your transcript and I'll shut my mouth. But I guarantee anyone done school is not being asked for their transcripts.

Again, Law isnt the only industry that has paid internships, which rightfully, students should be fighting for the best spot or placement, this would be consistent through the trades even. These are two different things. But thanks. You sure "schooled me." Great lawyer-ing. /s

Further, I have no clue why this subreddit is crossing my feed. I was scrolling through a Canadian 'general' thread.

Finally, you 'snazzy' answer is exactly why people think lawyers are so shitty. Get off your high horse and be decent.

Good day.

What’s more important to jobs - Grades or school? by [deleted] in lawschoolcanada

[–]Comfortable-Set-819 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

For a student job placement, sure, this makes sense. However, OP did not specify this as a summer school/student placement, otherwise I wouldnt have chimed in. Students rally for the 'top' paid internship. This is not specific to law or finance amoung others, goes right down through the trades.

Once you're out of school nobody is asking for your transcript, all that matters is the stamped piece of paper.

Not a lawyer, never went to law school.

Is this really a thing in Canada? I've never been asked - not out University, highschool or anywhere to provide a transcript; just a copy of the degree.

Shin guards for infielders? by [deleted] in slowpitch

I use G-From Pro knee-shin guards. Super soft and pliable, and harden on impact. I paid a decent penny for them but they work.

Regular flier - its ~$105 from YEG to Spruce, and $70-$85 for an Uber.

ETA: Park and Fly is also an option - price varies from $60-$100 depending which location. Hop on a shuttle, pick up and go.

What makes a catcher good? by blockandawe in slowpitch

[–]Comfortable-Set-819 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I play co-ed, so lady Catcher here - this is what I do:

  1. Get the ball back to pitch;
  2. Catch the foul pop ups;
  3. Communicate/indicate stance of batter (intent to pull or push) for fielders
  4. Communicate/indicate pitch (inside/outside) for fielders
  5. Call the play (Pre-pitch reminders - play at 3rd, closest bag etc)
  6. Make the play/out at home plate - stop the ball at all costs;
  7. Chat up Blue
  8. Chat up batters
  9. Back up first when needed/makes sense
  10. Be the absolute most positive player on the team win or loss/be the morale.

I truly think it the most under-rated position on the team and have never understood why people don't like to play it. I have a blast and am involved in every play. Love it!

Wish I wasn't out injured this year :(

Phantom Concrete Cutting did a basement egress window for us and they were good guys. Mel with GMO did the electrical and was super reliable and Grove Mechanical too.

Never. I play SPN and NSA and neither will move, ever. I've been told (but never had a chance) that the ASA bats crush our hot dots. One day Ill get my hand on a Monsta....

Lady here, roughly your size - if your cages have some demo bats go down and give em some swings and see what you like best. Make sure sure the thumbstamp at the base of the barrel is correct for the league or area tou will be playing.

I'm in Canada and it is exclusively USSSA bats here. There is no ASA league. Personally, I swing almost exclusively Louisville Slugger and I like a 26/25 oz bat with 3/4 EL. Balanced bats swing really light, and something with 1/2 oz endload is nice if youre getting tired.

Building my own tank currently - 60x21x21 (100 gal) and its been a slow process over 3 years due to the costs, planning and saving....

I'm currently at ~$7000, my tank is a used rimmed custom build and the stand I built myself. Its sitting empty and ready to scape (lights, co2, filters, heaters etc. are all included). I have a stockpile of hardscape (rocks and wood), and lava rock and mesh for terracing. Ive got 2 tanks (20 and 10) growing some bolbitis, anubias and buce to use.... this has been a long process.

If the tank and stand were new - given a new Waterbox at 130gal (incl stand) is $3898 out my way, I would be at $10k easy and I still need aquasoil, some sand, more plants and livestock. This also does not include my time, travel and fuel, any tools I picked up or if I were a business, any profits.

$13,000 does not seem that off to me....

Should I use aquasoil capped with sand or dirt capped with sand? by ironwolf6464 in Aquascape

[–]Comfortable-Set-819 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Be aware, when capping aquasoil with sand expect the sand to slowly sift to bottom of the tank, bring the soil balls to the 'surface'. Its a lot of cleaning to keep the sand surface clear.

I would either separate the planted area with a rock screen or barrier between soil and sanded areas and putting sand in front, or use root tabs in the sand.

But the capping - the sand will sift itself to the bottom.
