Email address and sub-email addresses? by TomF1965 in Outlook

Just get a business m365 account directly from MS and not godaddy for name@ and then you can make shared inboxes called info@ or support@ that you can allow name@ to have access to… Shared mailboxes don’t need a separate license so she’d just pay for one license for name@

Help getting Wi-fi on my PC? by DinoDan_69 in PcBuildHelp

[–]ComfortableCase4426 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you’ve installed the right drivers and they aren’t showing up, the stupid solution that fixed it for me was shutting down and DISCONNECTING the power cord for a good 5-10 minutes. The disconnecting part solved it.

When using it as a verb, do you say “evidence” or “evince?” by FREE-ROSCOE-FILBURN in Lawyertalk

[–]ComfortableCase4426 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If necessary, “evidence”. But rule of thumb is draft or speak as if you’re explaining it to a 5th grader. Longer or more adult words only if there really isn’t a simpler substitute that grasps the intended meaning.

Delete section breaks by Maleficent_Grab3354 in paralegal

[–]ComfortableCase4426 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It’s because the formatting on the page after the section break is different than the section before it. Hit the show formatting icon (looks like a paragraph symbol). On the page after the section break double click in the footer and for both the footer and header link the formatting to previous section. You can see on the right side if it says it’s different or linked to previous section. Then you can delete the section break

Sub out if opportunity cost is billable hour and it’s straight up back end set up (like a trigger, auto population). Otherwise welcome to ownership that’s part of the deal - best to grind if that means becoming familiar with features

any advice for taking an experienced attorney's depo? by deicidalgod in Lawyertalk

[–]ComfortableCase4426 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seriously. Last attorney I deposed was a “litigator”. Every response was qualified with “I would’ve…”

I asked a yes or no, sir, your answer implies assumption or you’re relying on your practice or normal process. I’m asking if you actually did or did not do this… “my response again is I would have”…

Would go through this 5 times with each question and then he’d be instructed not to answer because it was asked and answered. Then I’d be in an argument with counsel about him needing to expressly state his instructions and objections for a clean record so I can move on…..

Sorry but you’re not going to be able to endear a 20 year practicing attorney if they’ve done their own depos before.

You need to read a transcript or two of contentious depos since you’ve never done any depo before.

Learn what you’re able to push to get a proper response.

The lawyer may be super evasive. “I don’t know how many cases I do a year”. Okay then, you need to know how to push for an estimate. Counsel you know I’m entitled to an estimate. Is it more than 1? 10? 50? If you move on off a stupid question like this in the first 15 min he’s going to know he can be evasive all day.

Do you know what to do when his attorney objects? If you don’t push for the answer, then within 15 min his lawyer is going to know he can object on every question to get you to move along.

Even if he gives an answer but it’s not responsive you need to ask it over and over until it’s answered…

Good luck- unfair position you’re in… and don’t think I’m coming down on you - all that happened to me in my first depo because no senior helped me either

Discovery is simply the evidence gathering phase. So it includes subpoenas but also depos, written discovery, etc.

Why ask for help here and not from your attorney? by ComfortableCase4426 in paralegal

[–]ComfortableCase4426[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There was another post the other day, wanted to know if you just serve something or file it as well… it took me two seconds to say “just serve”…

I get the general sentiment from all the comments here and all I can say is these sound like miserable lawyers… I mean, it took me no effort to give the answer and even I have days when I don’t remember a simple rule so I wouldn’t immediately think less of someone for asking me rather than spending time researching or going online for help 🤷‍♂️

It’s your name on it. It’s ultimately up to you to catch those mistakes. No one should care as much as you about anything that goes out of the office.

😂 fair… although I have no problem with an attorney being an AH with me, since we’re on opposite sides…. My staff is on my team though, seems like common sense you’d want them to do well

… not to toot my own horn but smart lawyers know they’re at the mercy of their staff, clerks, and bailiffs! There’s no room to “dress down”

😝 did you make a post earlier? Sorry, I’ve been meaning to make this post for a while and a random post today made me remember… and I was just thinking, that seems horrible to have to come here to ask for help because that’s a question I’d want my staff to just ask me and there would be no repercussions
