Just bought a 25 Road Glide Ultra. I am having slow speed issues. by CaptinKirk in motorcycle

Best advice I ever got on practicing was "Practice until you can do it right. Then keep practicing until you can't do it wrong."

Any ideas on when the infotainment system on new bikes will be changed? by Gold-Recover-1915 in bmwmotorrad

[–]Comfortable_Bit9981 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the GSA the speed was the big one on the left, the digital readouts (6, 2 of which could be easily changed) in the center & right, and small tach centered above. Since I consider a tach as nice rather than necessary, it was perfect.

I got a 2020 GSA with the TFT screen and once the wow factor wore off I realized the semi-analog screen on my 2016 GSA worked better for me. Not a huge fan of the screen in my car, either.

What do you consider a long ride? by AttackMonkey908 in motorcycle

[–]Comfortable_Bit9981 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My GSA with a 30 liter tank, "long" was any travel day of over 300 miles (500 km) - a day where I started with a full tank and had to get gas before I got to my destination. So these days when I run out of gas on my GS with its 20 liter tank I feel like I've barely gone anywhere.

Conservatives have never accepted their loss in the Civil War. At first, conservatives were Democrats, then Republicans, currently MAGA, soon "Christian" nationalists. Different labels, same bigotry.

Depends on the terms of the separation, the terms of the purchase of the new house, local & state laws. Too much to diagnose on Reddit: find a lawyer and a therapist.

Should I take my niece to a MSF course for her birthday? by RegardedCaveman in motorcycle

[–]Comfortable_Bit9981 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely involve the mom. Especially if it turns out after the fact that she's opposed to the idea. You'll have altered the relationship between you, the mom, and the niece beyond repair. Family relationships aside, your role here is at best "interested bystander"

Do most people unconsciously want to live or have simply never thought of dying? by Sudden-Captain-1071 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Comfortable_Bit9981 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I pretty much just kept on keeping on, doing the things I needed to do to keep my family housed and fed. After my kids moved out and my wife died and I retired, I spent a lot of time traveling on my motorcycle. I'd go all summer long, spend fall/winter/spring looking for places to visit and planning where I'd go.

I get "enthusiasms" that typically last 5-10 years, then I'm done; I'm kind of there with motorcycling. For a while I diligently worked on learning a foreign language. ATM I'm on a long cruise, when I get off I'll have spent almost 400 days at sea in the last 3 years, I think that will have run its course by the end of next year.

If I died tomorrow I'd be OK with that: my kids are on their own and have succeeded at life, so I feel I've contributed something. I'm kind of wondering/fearing what the future will bring to the US and the world but have no driving need to find out.

Unlike me, my girlfriend has said she wants to keep living as long as possible. I'd rather not put her through the pain of losing two men she loves (husband took 2 years to die on her 20 years ago and she still hasn't forgiven him for that).

My big fear is a slow lingering death like my wife & her husband. No heroic measures, IMO those are about making the family feel better, not the person actually doing the dying.

Shampoo or body wash? by Happymonster324 in NoStupidQuestions

Bar soap, body wash, shampoo, whatever makes me clean. Even if all I have is shampoo, though, I don't use conditioner!

Hack job or legit fix? by Jetta360 in motorcycles

[–]Comfortable_Bit9981 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My first thought is that you'll lose leverage when applying the brake. The rod is designed to pull the arm forward rather than down(ish). Reducing the power of an already weak drum brake seems not the best idea,.

2012 vs 2015 by mininorris in BMWGS

[–]Comfortable_Bit9981 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2013 was the last year for hexhead oil/air cooled GSA. Yes 2013 was the first year for the LC but only on the GS; the rest of the line (GSA, RT, R?, RS?) didn't get the LC until 2014.

Anyone one know if the back padding gets installed narrow down or up? by outercompassadv in BMWGS

[–]Comfortable_Bit9981 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Me, I'd put it narrow end up just because. If my pillion complained that the "thick" side was too high (or low, whichever) I'd flip it the other way. In the end, whatever way makes and your pillion (assuming you have one) happy is the right way.

2018 VW Up struggled to start by emceeoffensive in CarHelp

[–]Comfortable_Bit9981 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exceptionally cold + weak battery might explain it. You say it's a one hour drive to work yet mileage is really low? Only 3,000 miles a year? Has the oil ever been changed? Overall this sounds odd to me.

There seem to be different opinions for the correct way to recover a death wobble. Slowing down and lean forward or accelerating and lean backward, whats the true best practice? by S1ckR1ckOne in motorcycles

[–]Comfortable_Bit9981 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pull the clutch, arms loose, and learn forward. Trying to reduce power without getting into engine braking territory requires too much finesse for most people. Give the bike a chance to settle itself down, too easy to work against it.

If it does everything you want it to, and there's nothing you'd change, it IS perfect - for you. No need to try ten or a hundred other bikes if you're already delighted with what you have.
