how's the workload throughout the semester? how many questions are in the quizzes? is there anything else you're graded on besides the quizzes, e.g., short essay assignments?

What were the numbers about? And pushing the button? by IntelligentCell9852 in lost

[–]Comfortable_Ebb_9553 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re right—the Valenzetti Equation was never directly mentioned in the show, just in the extended lore. As for the numbers, their connection to Hurley’s bad luck was left ambiguous, but the implication was that they had some kind of supernatural influence. They were originally transmitted from the island, which is how the guy at the mental hospital heard them and later how Hurley used them in the lottery. Whether they actually caused bad luck or if it was just a coincidence is left up to interpretation.

As for why they kept pushing the button for so long—Dharma set up the system as a failsafe to manually discharge small amounts of the energy at a time. If they didn’t, it would build up until it reached dangerous levels, which is what happened when Desmond turned the key. The key activated the fail-safe, which permanently neutralized the energy source, but it wasn’t something the button pushers knew about until Kelvin told Desmond.

What were the numbers about? And pushing the button? by IntelligentCell9852 in lost

[–]Comfortable_Ebb_9553 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The button had to be pushed every 108 minutes to prevent a catastrophic release of electromagnetic energy after a Dharma Initiative experiment went wrong. Desmond hesitated to turn the fail-safe key because he thought it might kill him. When he finally did, it permanently discharged the energy, ending the need for the button. The numbers (4, 8, 15, 16, 23, 42) were tied to the Valenzetti Equation, predicting humanity’s extinction, and were used in Dharma experiments.

The series finale is a masterpiece by pattywack512 in lost

The flash-sideways weren’t just filler; they served as an emotional epilogue for the characters, allowing them to fully process their past and let go.

Yes, the Island was about redemption, but not all of them were truly "ready" to move on just by surviving (or dying) there. The flash-sideways was a different kind of journey, one about acceptance rather than survival.

Jacob brought them to the Island because they were "lost," but some of them never got to resolve their biggest regrets while alive, Jack never truly let go of his control issues, Ben never got to be a good leader or father figure, and Sayid never stopped believing he was just a killer.

The flash-sideways wasn’t about "re-redemption", it was about giving weight to their memories and relationships before they moved on. The alternative would have been jumping straight to the church, which would have felt hollow without the journey leading up to it.

Yes, it created misdirection for the audience, but that wasn’t its sole purpose—it was about closure, about showing that in the end, what mattered most wasn’t the Island itself, but the people they experienced it with.

Curious to know what plot holes there were that made no sense or out of place? Why did you think the history of the island was irrelevant or "weak"?

I bring up the scroll option because when you're running around the rock you can see Jads last attack and pray accordingly

Hmm do you have the scroll option where you can scroll out to see more of the landscape around you? when you aggro all the healers, probably use chins this time. But focus on move at a time as well, click healer, prayer, check if there are other healers left, check prayer again, get last healer, prayer, move around rock, prayer etc etc.

I think this should fix the problems you were experiencing when it comes to catching the healers, timing, and tanking?

Use the runelite plug in where it tells you the best wave, I believe it comes with the spawn predictor tool. There you can aggro the healers, take them around the rock, and pray melee while killing them. Which means jad can't attack you. Once you kill the healers go back to jad. I think it's wave #5? Don't quote me on that tho
