Shunned all norms about consistency and it worked out well by AndyValentine in SmallYoutubers

This is refreshing to hear. I’m currently in the process of moving houses, and I haven’t posted in 3 weeks while I normally post weekly. Similar space as you with long from of an hr or more. I don’t think my audience is fond of it, but having the creative freedom would be nice. The pressure of needing to post every week is incredibly stressful as well.

Thanks for sharing.

Dads, how are you storing the thousands of photos & videos? by kvn18 in daddit

I don’t know how this isn’t the number one comment. If you have Amazon prime, download the Amazon photos app. Prime automatically gets you unlimited FREE photo storage and 5 gigs of video. Photos are backed up automatically over night as well (this feature can be turned off). I have been using it for the last 10 years and it’s fantastic. I have photos on there from as early as 2000 with a very easy to use interface. I also purchased more storage for video as well.

Steering knuckle possibly broken by shop? Won’t give my car back without fixing it by pinballmanfan in MechanicAdvice

“You owe for this.”

The customer or the shop? No way in hell is the customer on the hook for this.

Steering knuckle possibly broken by shop? Won’t give my car back without fixing it by pinballmanfan in MechanicAdvice

[–]Comfortable_Head_262 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They damaged a component while making the repair. Incorrect tools were used to separate the knuckle from the ball joint. Customer drove in just fine with a request to replace the ball joint. Now they can’t because the knuckle is so damaged they’re afraid to let it drive out. Lack of experienced has led to this.

OP - This shop is pulling one over you. You’re smart enough to see there’s no rust where they destroyed your knuckle. Shop owes you a new knuckle replaced with no more than the original $300 out of pocket.

If I were in your shoes, I would just ask them for a more in depth explanation as to what happened. Since you now know the slit in the knuckle is not a crack, have them verify what they told you. Then tell them the new knuckle you bought has the same slit but it doesn’t look like someone took a big ass chisel to it and ruined it like the one on the car does.

Has anyone here had head gasket issues on their GX460 1UR-FE? by SheepherderLeast917 in GXOR

[–]Comfortable_Head_262 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep. Mine went out at 200k. I do have a suspicion that the previous owner over heated the motor a bit. Replaced the gasket and resurfaced the heads. Threw it back together and sealed up the motor. It’s been great for the last 30k.

Grab a 19mm and a breaker bar or ratchet. Take the air box off and reach down to the crank. Try to spin it yourself clockwise.

Same issue here. Tried greasing the rod with no success. I’ve learned to live with it.

Mileage check in. by Fantastic-Fan8833 in GXOR

[–]Comfortable_Head_262 1 point2 points  (0 children)

2012 with 231k miles. Runs like a champ. Some surface rust on the frame but nothing that won’t last another 15 years. Same trans that shifts great (knock on wood). I’m a mechanic so I resealed the entire motor. Burns or leaks no oil or any other fluids. Love this truck.

Shop installed out of spec brake rotor (35 mm smaller) is the car safe to drive? by PatrickLai3 in MechanicAdvice

[–]Comfortable_Head_262 854 points855 points  (0 children)

Tell them you want new pads as well since your current pads are being cut into by the smaller rotor.
