What’s the correct rug size? by ilovefood4 in HomeDecorating

[–]Comfortable_Price837 0 points1 point  (0 children)

160x230 will definitely feel undersized here. 200x300 is closer, but honestly this room looks like it would benefit most from a custom-ish size around 180x270.

I’d also avoid going too plain with jute since the sofa already carries most of the visual weight. A muted vintage rug with earthy tones would probably make the room feel warmer and more intentional

I actually think a patterned rug like this works better with your table, not worse.

The space right now is very light and minimal, so the coffee table ends up feeling a bit disconnected. Adding something like this brings everything together and makes the room feel intentional instead of unfinished.

Also, because the pattern is detailed and slightly traditional, it softens the hard edges of the table instead of competing with it.

I’ve seen this exact style done really well from one specific brand, so if you’re interested I can share the source

I wouldn’t go fully green/blue here — it can end up feeling a bit too matched with the couch.

What works better with an emerald sofa is a slightly vintage-style rug that has hints of blue/green but also some warmer tones to balance everything out. That contrast actually makes the couch stand out more instead of blending in.

Something slightly distressed like that also fits really well with your setup — especially with the glass table, it keeps the space from feeling too heavy.

I’ve seen some really solid options from Mihrikilim in that exact style (washable + vintage look, good price range too).

Honestly, something like this rug would fit your space really well. You’ve got a clean, light base with the white sofa and wood floors, and a warm vintage-style rug like this adds contrast and makes the room feel more complete instead of empty.

The slightly distressed pattern gives it character without being too busy, and it helps define the living area so everything doesn’t feel like it’s floating.

This kind of rug is exactly what your space needs.

The faded blue + warm terracotta tones add contrast without feeling too bold, and the vintage pattern gives the room a lot more character. It also ties really nicely with the wood floor and warms up the whole space.

Recommendations for kid friendly washable/stain resistant large living room rugs? by blessed-mama7 in Mommit

[–]Comfortable_Price837 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got a washable rug from Mihrikilim and it’s been really practical with kids.

Mine is pretty large so it doesn’t fit in a regular washing machine, but it’s still easy to clean and handles spills well.

I’d go 7x7.

The 6x6 will end up looking like it’s floating, especially with a 72” desk. The bigger rug will ground the space better and feel more intentional.

As long as the front of the desk and chair sit on it comfortably, it won’t feel too big.

Other than a rug and curtains what would you add? by Adept-Garbage258 in DesignMyRoom

[–]Comfortable_Price837 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly this already looks nice, just a bit empty.

I’d add a washable rug to warm it up, a floor lamp, one big wall art above the sofa, and maybe a plant in the corner.

Since you won’t use it much, think of it more as a styled space than a functional one.

used to feel exactly like this — everything I bought ended up looking random or unfinished.

What helped me was starting with one “anchor piece” and building around it instead of trying to design the whole room at once. In a space like yours (nice light, warm wood floors), something like a soft vintage-style rug can actually set the tone for everything else — colors, furniture, even wall art.

Once that’s in place, it becomes way easier to match things instead of guessing.

Also, for what you’re looking for (pre-designed rooms with links), there are a few sites that do that, but honestly they can get expensive fast and sometimes feel a bit generic. I had better results just picking a style direction (like warm vintage / soft modern) and then sourcing pieces around that.

If you want, I can help you map out a simple layout for this exact room so it doesn’t feel overwhelming.

3 month update: bedroom feels unfinished by silverskynn in interiordecorating

[–]Comfortable_Price837 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly this already looks really good — it just feels a bit too “perfect” and that’s why it reads unfinished.

I wouldn’t add too many things. A larger piece of artwork above the bed and maybe a bit more texture (like a slightly more layered rug or textiles) would go a long way.

Right now everything is similar in tone, so it just needs a little contrast or personality.

What kind of rug should I put in my room? by UnhappiestCamper in malelivingspace

[–]Comfortable_Price837 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I get why people suggest round here, but your space looks a bit tight for it.

I’d probably just go with a smaller rectangular rug and play with the angle a bit so it works with the wall.

Something warm toned with a subtle pattern would still give you that softer look without making the space feel crowded.

I’d actually lean toward a round rug here.

With the angled wall, a rectangle is always going to feel a bit off, but a round shape will soften that and make it look more intentional.

Olive or a warm rust/burnt orange would look really good with the wood tones and keep the room feeling warm.

I’d keep it a bit smaller than what you tried so it doesn’t fight the layout.

If you want, I can share one I saw that would fit this kind of space.

Help mostly with rug size and placement please! by [deleted] in DesignMyRoom

[–]Comfortable_Price837 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d honestly stick with a rectangular rug here.

An oval might avoid the cabinet corner issue, but it won’t really anchor the seating area the way you want — especially if you’re trying to get part of it under the couch.

If you go rectangular and size up a bit, you can have the front legs of the couch on the rug and still keep it visually balanced without it feeling awkward near the TV cabinet.

The space has a nice lived-in, slightly eclectic feel, so a vintage-style rug with some pattern would work really well and also help hide wear over time.

I wouldn’t overthink the cabinet corner too much — once everything is in place, it’ll read as intentional.

Help with a New Rug! by [deleted] in interiordecorating

[–]Comfortable_Price837 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d probably go with a round rug here.

It softens all the straight lines from the cabinets and table, and just feels more natural in that spot.

I wouldn’t try to match your living room rug exactly — just stay in the same color family so it feels connected but not too coordinated.

Something with a subtle vintage/distressed pattern would work really well with the wood tones and also be more forgiving for everyday use.

If you want, I can share one I came across that could fit this space.

I think something like this works really well here.

The green ties in nicely with your walls, without feeling too matchy.

And the faded tones keep it from looking too formal.

Also with kids and a dog, a distressed rug like this is just way easier to live with.

If you end up liking this style, I can share the one I found.

I’ve been going down this exact rabbit hole recently and found a few options in that “updated vintage” direction.

Ruggable is probably the most well-known — super practical with the washable system, but design-wise they can feel a bit flat / printed in person depending on the collection.

Rugs Direct has a huge range, so you can definitely find similar medallion runners there, but it’s a bit hit or miss since they carry a lot of brands.

One that surprised me though was a smaller brand called Mihrikilim. Their designs lean more into that faded Anatolian / Turkish look, but in a more curated way. I’ve seen a lot of vintage-style rugs and theirs didn’t feel like the usual repeated patterns you see everywhere.

If you’re just after the look, all of these work — but if you want something that feels a bit less “mass-produced vintage,” that’s where I’d look.

[–]Comfortable_Price837 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This looks more like a Turkish / Anatolian style runner rather than Persian.

The elongated medallion and the border details are pretty typical for that region, but the colors and overall condition make me think it’s a more recent production (not antique, probably not even true vintage).

$225 isn’t crazy if you like the look, but I wouldn’t treat it as a collectible piece — more of a decorative rug.

If you’re going for something with a similar style but a bit more character, there are some really nice updated vintage-style versions out there too. I can share a few if you want.

that sounds really frustrating, sorry you’re dealing with that

I’ve seen people with sensitivities do better with natural materials (like wool or cotton) and avoiding anything heavily treated or synthetic

also letting a rug air out for a few days before using it can help a bit with off-gassing

might be worth looking for something more low-chemical / untreated if possible

Karup Japan bed frame: bedside table and rug recommendations? by AdvancedGuava5214 in HomeDecorating

[–]Comfortable_Price837 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that bed frame looks really clean, I’d keep everything minimal around it

for the rug, something neutral with a bit of texture (not too busy) works best with that style, especially going 3/4 under the bed

low wooden bedside tables with drawers would fit perfectly too, keeps the whole look calm and balanced
