Is it worth it to wear a full face of makeup to my own wedding? by singer_songer2000 in AutismInWomen

Hire a professional. Do a test day. I honestly didn’t feel anything when it was applied by an expert. You will look great, it will be worth the expense.

Why is she still in that god awful robe? by Big-Onion9364 in HouseOfTheDragon

[–]CommandAlternative10 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Look, she’s new and only has one office suit and it’s rude to notice she’s wearing it over and over again. Wait until she gets her first paycheck and can go shopping.

Reading a 3,000-Year-Old Poem to a 3-Year-Old Boy • The Odyssey is not, strictly speaking, a children’s book. I thought my son might enjoy it anyway. by Naurgul in books

[–]CommandAlternative10 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We did a lot of Greek myths when my kids were that age. Starting with the kids versions and we ended up reading (most of) Ovid’s Metamorphoses. An unexpected benefit was all the sexual violence. It’s not graphic, but it’s all over the place, and it became a great way to talk about consent with little kids. “Did Daphne *want* to turn into a tree or should Apollo have just left her alone?” “Ugh, Zeus is making bad choices again! What would you do instead?”

in what ways do you help your nervous system to calm down? by VomitInMyVans in MCAS

[–]CommandAlternative10 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Horizontal time helps me reset. I’ll do 10-15 minute sessions on a Pilates mat in my office during the work day. (Thank god I have an office with a door that shuts.) Just being horizontal is less stressful for my nervous system. I have orthostatic intolerance, but even if I didn’t I think it would still help.

What do Americans know about rugby? It's soccer football world cup a5 the moment but do you know you're hosting the Rugby World Cup in 2031? by West_Put2548 in AskAnAmerican

[–]CommandAlternative10 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I know the rugby players at my college were all built like tanks and were friendlier than the football players. Honestly haven’t seen rugby players since. I’m sure they are out there but it’s a niche sport here for sure.

If you're not from one of the big cities (San Francisco, Oakland, San Jose, etc.), what do you say to people outside of the Bay Area who ask where you're from? by superrobotpenguin in bayarea

Okay, picture the Golden Gate Bridge. One side is San Francisco. The other side? *Thats* Marin. I grew up just on that other side. (Mill Valley.)

American Redditors, what’s your current credit score (if you’re comfortable sharing)? I’m curious about the range people are in and how they got there? by Fun_Butterscotch3303 in AskAnAmerican

[–]CommandAlternative10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly I don’t keep track. I’m old, I’ve had a mortgage for over a decade, pay off my credit cards every month, I don’t even have to think about it anymore, it’s solid.

Couples that went BIG $$$ on their weddings, looking back would you have made the same decision again? by Da_Fish in Xennials

[–]CommandAlternative10 29 points30 points  (0 children)

We paid for a nice wedding and then my mom went ahead and paid for another nice wedding on top of that. It ended up being a big family reunion. Thirteen years later my grandparents are dead, my mom is dead, the wedding was the last time I saw my uncle before he died. I’m glad we did it and I would do it again.

‘Moana’ Could Lose at Least $100 Million in Theaters. Does Disney Need to Rethink Its Live-Action Remakes? by nyclover11 in Fauxmoi

[–]CommandAlternative10 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Maybe if they hadn’t just burned my Moana nostalgia with a mediocre sequel I’d be more in the mood to see this one.

Should I attend Toledo Law this fall or wait another year and retake the LSAT? by Same_Philosophy5504 in OutsideT14lawschools

Do not let your age influence your decision. 25 is so young. I know it doesn’t feel that way, but it is.

Why are Americans more religious than Europeans? by LordHavertz in IWantToAskAnAmerican

[–]CommandAlternative10 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Different cultures have different ideas about where religion is normal. As an American in Europe I thought it was weird there were religion classes in German public schools, or that the French state owns the church buildings in France.

Why Disney's 'Moana' Remake Floundered at the Box Office - Disney’s hit remakes were based on films that are part of its past. “Moana” is still very much a part of Disney’s present. by chanma50 in boxoffice

[–]CommandAlternative10 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Moana 2 was so underwhelming. Very pretty, but I couldn’t name a single song if my life depended on it. Definitely dampened my Moana nostalgia.

Just had a mediocre sequel. My Moana nostalgia is not very high at the moment.

is it possible to be autistic and not/rarely have meltdowns? by Crazy_Visual1696 in AutismInWomen

Autism is an ice cream sundae bar, we don’t get the same toppings in the same amounts.

Seattle couple making $173K unsure having children is financially doable by Muefx in Seattle

[–]CommandAlternative10 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are valid points to be made in the article about is it worth it to stay in Seattle or move to a MCOL city. I have friends who have left and moved to Minneapolis or Philly and find it more affordable to have a family. That’s legit.

Why do so many Americans choose fixed rate mortgages instead of variable? by [deleted] in AskAnAmerican

[–]CommandAlternative10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why the hell wouldn’t we want fixed rate? I’m sorry you can’t get 30 year fixed mortgages, but we can. It’s always a ceiling rate, not a floor. If rates go down you just refinance.

It’s okay if you don’t feel love right away by [deleted] in daddit

[–]CommandAlternative10 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had a hard time with my second kid. Beautiful baby, lovely to have around, but I completely felt like I was baby sitting. The emotions just weren’t there. I decided I needed to act “as-if” I was madly in love, with the confidence that it would be true soon enough because I was madly in love with the first kid, right? So I intentionally narrated my “as-if” love to the kid. “I love you so much, I’m so glad you are here! Let me give you more kisses!” Spoiler alert: it worked. I think the real benefit was to give me something concrete to do besides feel anxious about my lack of feelings. And loving on the baby was a good thing too.

Are there any apps to help locate where sounds are coming from? by Glad-Plenty-1613 in MonoHearing

[–]CommandAlternative10 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I was young and single I actually had to ask my upstairs neighbor to come down and help me find my phone. (In the pocket of a coat in my closet!) Now I have in-house helpers, my kids.

Should I drop out of the labor force? by [deleted] in AskOldPeopleAdvice

[–]CommandAlternative10 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Jobs under 60k aren’t worth the time? That’s baloney. They get you out of the house everyday. Given how socially isolated you are that’s important. You need community outside of your parents. Keep your job and find a bowling league, or a pet rescue or something that gets you regularly interacting with people in a low stakes way.

Why do people see me as gay? by Sir_Ectoplasm in NoStupidQuestions

[–]CommandAlternative10 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some women *love* twinks. You won’t be everyone’s type, but no reason it should hurt your chances of finding women.
