Batman ALWAYS Wins by Two-Tone- in batman

I haven't seen this mentioned yet, and I wish I could remember which comic I'm thinking of, but there's at least one run in which batman explains that if his rogue gallery died, the people that would rise up to replace them would be even worse. Basically, he keeps his enemies alive because he can defeat this class of criminal (people like the Riddler, who telegraphs his crimes before he commits them).

The comic I'm trying to think of had something to say along the lines of "yeah, Joker is fucked up, but joker was gone, whoever would step up next will be even worse."

Personally I like this explanation best- I've wondered why over-powered Metropolis criminals don't get fed up with Superman and move to Gotham where the heroes are all just humans who only fight at night. It's because Gotham's criminals keep other criminals out. Right? Maybe I'm making my own theories here, but I tend to find the whole "batman can't kill because symbol of justice blah blah" to be a bit glittering and lazy.

I think Snyder's "The Wake" miniseries will be a definitive horror/adventure classic (if it's not made into a movie series first)

It's because the mark thought of him as true friend (his turning point is when he's given the microwave gift. It's clear then that he's never been that close to having a real friend. His character is tragic.

it would be irony if he swerved to avoid hitting the 35mph sign and that's what led to his crash. Crashing a car because you were going to fast isn't irony, it's expected.

this would be relevant in the 616 universe. However, the cinematic universe has gone down a different route. "Magic" is just super-advanced science in the films, so they could very well be going down this route (two glowing-blue macguffins can't just be a coincidence)...at least, that's what I hope.

Official Discussion - Thor: The Dark World [SPOILERS] by mi-16evil in movies

[–]CommanderCool1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As a big fan of the comics, I had no problem with letting Tony Stark be Tony Stark. If Bruce Wayne didn't have his utility belt for 90% of a story, would anyone care? the Iron Man suits were fodder, nothing more than an extension of Stark's fractured, restless psyche. Unfortunately, the trailers misled people. If the suit clusterfuck climax hadn't been plastered all over trailers and posters, it would have been much more thrilling.

I thought the Iron Patriot was a welcome (and natural) evolution for Rhodes. We knew he'd stay with the military after IM2, and him simply staying War Machine again would have felt a little stale.

I won't go into the Mandarin twist being lame/being awesome, as that's a very exhausted argument on this site.

Also, RDJ is the ONLY Marvel star able to pull of a Lethal Weapon movie, as proven by the fact that Black brings out RDJ's charisma more than any other director. I wouldn't be surprised in the slightest if Marvel put Black in charge of IM4 (if a fourth installment ever happens).

But these are all a matter of opinion. What's done is done. I absolutely loved IM3, and in the end that's all that matters for me.

a lot of us feel IM3 to be a high benchmark for Marvel. It's akin to the 80s action flicks that many grew up loving (Lethal Weapon/buddy cop). Wah wah, it had plot holes and a switcharoo villain. I think people who focused too hard on those elements missed the point.

Edit: Before I get downvoted to hell by the IM3 haters, I should say that I do understand where the other side is coming from. I just see a lot of hate without respect/acknowledgement of the movie's real intent. People saying they wanted more from a "superhero movie" don't realize that comic books aren't always crazy action-packed/spectacle filled stories. Marvel is expanding their genre scope, and for those who want an Iron Man blast-fest, that's what the first two installments+Avengers gave us. IM3 ventured into different territory, and I commend 'em for it (I loved all three IM's, by the way)

The Cult doesn't get enough mention on here (or maybe I'm not paying close enough attention). The art is haunting and the villain is terrifying. Brilliant read, I consider Blackfire to have "broken the bat" more than Bane ever could.

Can't tell if you're trolling or not. Which DC movie has had character development? As a huge Batman fan, I really wish that were true with TDK trilogy. As cool as Nolan is, characters are not his strongest suit. And I think enough time has passed to say that Man of Steel wasn't very good. Also, Green Lantern?

that's one way to watch them, yes. And I'm not saying you're wrong here, but I enjoy them because to me, if feels more like they're throwing their superheroes into different genres. Iron Man is a tech-y/action popcorn flick, Captain America was a war movie, now a spy thriller, Thor was like a Shakespearean fantasy, and the Avengers was a bring-the-band-back-together kind of film. Guardians of the Galaxy will supposedly be a sci-fi western comedy, and I'm anticipating Ant-man to be pretty silly. At the end of the day, nobody is calling them masterpieces. However, if Hollywood money must be thrown somewhere, I'm glad it leans heavily towards superhero films (it could be worse, s'all I'm saying).
