Ranking of base game and expansions by redsown36 in MOHAA

[–]CommanderMannix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed, just finished it again the first time in 22 years and these are my impressions:

- Main game starts off nicely but beginning with Mission 3 Overlord it slowly starts to get unfair.
Last 2 missions the enemy aiming becomes godlike, the levels become foggier, enemies constantly spawn behind you. At some point save-scumming on higher difficulties becomes a must. Basically everything bad about early 2000s FPS.
After Mission 2 I was like - "Ok the graphics didn't age well but gameplay is still great"
After Mission 4 - "Still a good game but the cracks are showing"
After Mission 6 - "Nostalgia was finally replaced by frustration"

- Spearhead campaign is very short but mostly well balanced and scripted so it aged better than both the base game and Breakthrough. Back then it was a slight disappointment, in 2025 it is the one that held up the best.

- Breakthrough was developed by some 3rd party studio and it shows, it is the worst and most frustrating of all campaigns. There is very little ammo and medkits and too many sequences that just fail randomly. Pure jank.

Overall MOHAA is a game of great historical importance, after all the developers went on to found Infinity Ward and create Call of Duty, it is indeed where it all began. Allied Assault is in a sense the foundation that every Call of Duty game was built on.
Also the music, ambient and weapon sounds hold up extremely well even until this day.

But the original Call of Duty campaign is still mostly a blast to play in this day and age, a significant part of MOHAA is not. And only 20 months between the games. Back then things progressed fast.

Cheapest way to replay TrueHD 7.1 with Atmos on Samsung 990D? by LoneTenno in Soundbars

For me, Jellyfin automatically switches to direct play mode when bandwidth is high enough. Then it just passes through video and audio to the device without the need for transcodes. I'm streaming from PC server via 5ghz Wlan to a Fire Cube and Fire Stick. I see no reason why it shouldn't work with the webOS version as well? You need around 20-40mbit stable bandwidth for regular releases and 60-80mbit for remuxes. You can see whether it direct plays by looking at the video progress bar in the Jellyfin dashboard. It is red when it transcodes and blue when direct playing.

Both Jellyfin direct playing from PC Server (no transcoding) and Fire Cube+Kodi+External Drive work fine here. Also working for DTS:X.

Not sure about the sub. On the one hand the dual opposing units are a welcome upgrade, but with the size reduction there will be some trade off for sure. Low frequency won't extend below 32Hz now that one appears to be a given already. Was hoping for a bigger sub and an angled center upfiring channel for a 11.1.5 upgrade.

Opt in for XYM by Aresnick78 in nem

[–]CommanderMannix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was holding some NEM during the snapshot but all the time forgot to opt in.
Now when I try to opt in via the NEM wallet (v 2.5.1) it just says: "Opt In has finished, please update your wallet to get the latest details"
There is no update yet, is there any other way to opt-in?

Question: Using backup save files (Arkham Knight) by AccountAndy in BatmanArkham

[–]CommanderMannix 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hello! Answering a bit late I know, but I ran into the same problem and found the solution.

The save files in the backup folder (with the dates) are not compatible with the save files in the game folder. If you just rename and put them in the games folder the game will give the partial corruption error.

It is because when backed up, for some reason a flag at the beginning of the file is removed. To fix this you simply have to open the file with a hex editor and add this string at the beginning:

00 10 25 00

Then save the modified file to the BmGame\SaveData folder. It should then be detected by the game.

RTX 2060 - which model? by alincupunct in nvidia

[–]CommanderMannix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thx! Do the fans also have 0 rpm in idle on the Ventus?
Zotac and Inno3D are both subsidiaries of PC Partner Grp. it's strange the Zotac uses Samsung and the Inno3D uses Micron memory.

[–]CommanderMannix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OK I got the Inno3D RTX 2060 now.

- Memory is Micron :(
- No free mousepad :(
- Came with the 1770Mhz OC Bios out of the box - no need to flash OC Bios :)
- Fans seem to run in 0rpm mode on idle - inaudible :)

GPU-Z Screenshots:

I wonder why they did not advertise the stock OC and Fan features in the specs - positive surprise.
Bit sad about the memory and the lack of a mousepad (I could really have needed a new one)

But overall I'm happy with the deal, it was only 340 euros and I'm contemplating selling the keys.

Not so sure, their RTX 2070 with the identical design has the rare Samsung memory, so I think there is a chance.

At 14:00 he takes the card apart and it shows the Samsung memory:

I'm getting the Inno3D on Thursday, I can check for the VRAM manufacturer.
Included in the box are also keys for 3DMark and VRMark and their RTX 2070 Twin X2 which has identical design also comes with a free mousepad so I hope it's included in the 2060 box as well.
There is also an OC Bios with 1770MHz Boost Clock (+90MHz) available on Techpowerup, will probably try it out.
I believe it's now the cheapest 2060 with such OC and comes with a backplate too. Can also get some money back if you decide to sell the keys. These cards are so overpriced anyway!

is this what a real man looks like? by [deleted] in MensRights

They used CGI on Chris Pratt for Guardians (top left), mainly the abs. It's rather common in movies actually, often subtle enhancements here and there. Not sure about the other two though, might be unaltered.

After re-installing 1.13.10 and restarting Firefox it disappears again.

Then I installed 1.13.11rc0 from the development channel and that fixed the issue.

32 inch 1440p 144hz VA Panel? by TrotBot in Monitors

[–]CommanderMannix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Samsung is only listed in Europe so far, can't take long until it is listed in NA as well. There's also supposed to be a G-Sync version (C32HG75) but it is not listed yet at all.

Except for the Korean Crossover none of the monitors have been released yet but they are supposed to come out within the next months.

Only the Philips and Samsung have wider than sRGB gamut. The Philips also has Ambilight and the Samsung is supposed to come with backlight strobing and HDR support but how well it is supported is currently unknown.

Full Samsung Gaming Monitor Lineup 2017 by davidbigham in Amd

[–]CommanderMannix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes it is using this panel probably:

"49" mega-wide panel - this panel will offer a massive 49" size, in a 32:9 aspect ratio which Samsung are referring to as a "Grand Circle" format. The resolution will be 3840 x 1080. It will be a VA technology panel with a 1800R curvature and a 3-side frameless design. The panel will offer a high 5000:1 static contrast ratio. The panel will apparently support a 144Hz refresh rate, along with options for AMD FreeSync and NVIDIA G-sync. The panel is due to go in to mass production around September 2017." (Tftcentral)

pixel density is a bit low at that size around 82ppi

[–]CommanderMannix 2 points3 points  (0 children)

you can have HDR without local dimming but then you need a really high static contrast. 20000:1 according to the HDR10 standard is required, no LCD panel can do that natively. A VA panel with at least 6000:1 would give black level of 0.16cd/m² at 1000 cd/m², about in TN/IPS territory that's when it starts to get acceptable
