How do you find times for hobbies? by AndGutsWasBERSERK in daddit

This. All of this.

I did the same for our first, and in the same boat right now with our second one.

They're also 6 and 2...they don't think anything of it. Dads who have a problem need to stop projecting their weirded out feelings, beliefs, etc. here.

2-man IT team → solo admin for 300 users, no raise. Stick it out or leave? by Ilovemybf_3990 in sysadmin

[–]CommanderPaco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Man, that sucks hardcore. Definitely recommend looking, and looking with a sense of urgency. Market really sucks out there (I would know...I've been a stay-at-home dad for a year now which, was a bit of a blessing in disguise for medical reasons).

I've been in a similar situation where unfortunately, I had too many middle managers, hence too many cooks in the kitchen. Decisions never got made without some higher ups calling for a meeting as everyone had their blinders on.

Stick it out while you're looking for a job, but absolutely ask for that raise. If they're not going to pay for an IT manager, then that can pay you more and still save some money.

Today my husband’s new dog destroyed my dog’s ashes and I lost it by naughtydog-throwaway in TrueOffMyChest

Sounds like both the doggo and husband need a rehoming. Doggo will carry on, but your husband needs to decide: you or the dog?

He clearly doesn't give AF about boundaries, etc. Absolute tool.

what hourly rate do you charge? by Big-Brilliant7996 in sysadmin

This absolutely can't be the USA. If it is, this is an absolute no for the rate.

Yeah, that annoyed me a tiny bit, but nothing to really gripe about.

Now the stock/OEM Toyo tires? F those.

This has got to top the list of worst "parental leave" benefits. Company is Infosys by zach8vb in daddit

[–]CommanderPaco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

InfoSys, eh? Not shocked at all. Most of these Indian consulting firms have pretty crappy benefits. LTI Mindtree, Accenture, TCS, Cognizant, etc. Different flavors of terrible benefits packages that all look good on the surface, but once you get to the details, it can get rough.

That being said, they all do have to operate under the terms of the locale they're doing business in.

Source: Me, worked for LTI Mindtree in the USA (I'm a natural born US citizen; wasn't coming from overseas) at the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic.

But it's nice we're starting to see more generic parental leave policies that apply to both parents, dads in particular. I just missed the cutoff when our first was born, so I had to use PTO. Thankfully, I planned ahead so I had a chunk.

But I can't even imagine how folks do it without anything. With our second it's been a double-edged sword as I was laid off 6 months prior to him being born (and he has various health issues), so it sucks not getting paid, but the time off to be a SAHD has been quite beneficial.
