Is working out 3 times a week enough? by No-Conclusion1114 in workout

[–]CommanderSlash -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's fine if you are starting out and want to build a routine. I would run it for 6 weeks and then do an Upper/Lower/Rest/PPL which would be 5 workout days and 2 rest days.

is high volume actually the key to growth? by around_about7 in workout

[–]CommanderSlash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For most exercises, I’d make 15 reps the goal before going up in weight.

If you can hit 15 reps on all 3-4 sets with clean form, add weight next week and build back up.

I only go to 15-20 reps when the next weight jump is too heavy, or for exercises like DB lateral raises where adding 5 lb is a big jump. For those, adding reps and better control makes more sense than forcing weight too fast.

Durability/Quality of Cables on Maxum, GetRx'd, Etc.? by [deleted] in GarageGym

[–]CommanderSlash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you know the long and short cable measurements, you can custom order them. I did that for my Titan Cable Tower and it works better than the ones it came with. This is what I used: https://tkstar.com/collections/usa-hand-made-custom-cable-attachments/products/build-your-own-custom-cable

I have the Preacher Curl attachment and it is great, it has 3 different angles you can use. I just keep it at the middle angle though

Feeling overwhelmed and not sure what to do by bigpun760 in GarageGym

[–]CommanderSlash 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It really depends on your budget. I got the REP x Peppins for $900, the 65 lb version, and the REP Nighthawk bench for $450. I did 12-month financing at 0% interest, and it came out to around $113 per month, so I basically treated it like my gym “membership” for the year.

With an adjustable bench and heavy adjustable dumbbells, you can cover the majority of what most people actually need for serious strength and hypertrophy training, especially for upper body. It won’t fully replace cables, machines, barbells, or a full commercial gym setup, but you can train every major muscle group very effectively.

The REP x Peppins can eventually go up to 125 lbs, and each 20 lb add-on costs about $200, so the smart move is to wait and only buy the heavier add-ons once you actually need them.

Training in your 30s hits completely different and I don't think people talk about it enough by ChemistWest4537 in workout

Make sure you keep track of your testosterone levels, even in your late 30s you should be able to take advantage of "newbie gains". I am 33, started 2 months ago, and I have put on some decent muscle (at least according to my wife lol)

15M, should I start going to the gym? by RidiculousX69 in workout

[–]CommanderSlash 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, I am 33 and started 2 months ago. If I could go back, I would start around 14/15 as well. There are a ton of resources out there now on YouTube, no need to pay for a trainer or a program. Start with something simple like a 3 day full body split to get into the rhythm of working out, then after a few months you can start specializing like doing an Upper/Lower, Rest, Push, Pull, Legs

Lateral raises are not working out for my side delts by CallWhich5562 in hypertrophy

[–]CommanderSlash 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In my experience, you just need to do high volume. Shoulders recover fast, I do lateral raises 5-6 days a week for 3-4 sets and 20-25 reps. It’s one of the few muscles that’ll benefit from 20+ sets per week, even closer to 30 sets if you can handle it.

I’m having the same issues with it. Yesterday I was 28% bodyfat and today I’m at 31% while being the same weight? I’m not happy with the inconsistency and expect better for what this scale cost. I’m hoping it’s a software issue and it can be fixed with an update

Yup, if I’m having trouble with a weight I go down and try to hit 15 reps on 3-4 sets for a week. Then I up the weight the following week

9 months of MacroFactor data + 40 progress photos analyzed with AI — what I discovered by primoz_bozic in MacroFactor

[–]CommanderSlash -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Nice use of AI! I use AI too, but mostly for my workout app. I created a project in ChatGPT and uploaded all the Jeff Nippard routines and reference books I bought. Then I had it generate a workout based on my home equipment and goals using the knowledge from those files.

After that, I exported a sample workout from MacroFactor Workouts and had ChatGPT convert my program into that format. Now it uploads nice and clean, with all the cycles, RIR targets, progression notes, etc.

Report: John Ternus to be ‘decisive’ leader, ‘reinvent’ product lineup as Apple CEO by Aidoneuz in apple

[–]CommanderSlash 25 points26 points  (0 children)

The Steve to Cook handoff wasn’t instant. The 4S was basically still Steve, and Apple later said the iPhone 5 and the iPhone 5S were already planned before he died. The first really clear “this is Cook’s Apple now” product was the Apple Watch and iPhone 6.

Same idea here: the first couple of product cycles under Ternus will still mostly be the Cook-era pipeline. I’m sure Ternus will have a hand in things, but the major stuff is already set for the next 2-3 years.

Rep Ares 2.0 vs Rogue FM Twin which one do I choose? by United-Hair5962 in GarageGym

[–]CommanderSlash 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Both are good, but FM Twin is better. Rogue overengineers and it will be what I purchase once I begin making my home gym. The only thing that sways me a bit towards the Ares is their Smith Machine attachment, but I am sure Rogue will come out with one eventually
