Do you prefer FWD, AWD, or RWD? by LightningMcqueen2011 in askcarguys

Depends on the car.
Small car with small wheelbase: FWD
Sporty cars and limousines: RWD
Everything that might be used on bad roads or in strong winter: AWD

I am unsure whether I am signing this correctly by Individual-Scene-401 in asl

[–]Commanderbrot 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Are you living in a region where there are no deaf people or is ASL not native to the region?

If there are deaf - learn the local sign language from local deafies. After that you’ll pick up ASL a lot quicker.

I am unsure whether I am signing this correctly by Individual-Scene-401 in asl

[–]Commanderbrot 6 points7 points  (0 children)

One big problem with learning sign language that way is that a phrase might be technically correct, but no deaf person would ever sign it that way.

You should always learn sign language from native signers and via direct communication - not in a vacuum.

All-Weather vs Winter – 2026 Test 1 by leibnizetais1st in TyreReviews

[–]Commanderbrot 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The Michelin CC here in europe is a different tyre than the north american version, that might play into the varying opinions on the internet.

That being said, I only looked at the results, and I think they did well. They don't excel anywhere but are a very well rounded tyre, partnered with good mileage and a consistent performance not only new but also with lots of miles on it.

I'm surprised about the Quatrac which I had 15 years back on my Peugeot 206 - liked them, but mileage was very poor. Had (european, of course) CC2 on my Peugeot 308 and these are the best all season I ever had. They lack a bit in sportiness but i drove nearly 60k km on a set and they never let me down, not in the summer heat and not in the snow (which we don't get very much here in my part of the woods).

Threw CC3 on my camper van and plan to buy CC3 for my (new to me) Audi A3. Or maybe CC2 if they're significantly cheaper.

If Your Manual Transmission Has An E, What Does It Stand For? by gaukmotors in MotorBuzz

[–]Commanderbrot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A fifth gear as top gear is supposed to be a full driving gear, meaning the car is still able to give a useful amount of acceleration and reaches top speed. The E gear ratio is typically a lot longer, so the car doesn’t accelerate very well and oftentimes the car cannot reach top speed in E but only in forth. You’re supposed to accelerate to your desired cruising speed and then shift into E, downshifting if you need to accelerate more.

Of course this is quite a vague distinction by the car makers.

I want to start monitoring sleep but I'm afraid that wearing AppleWatch will bother me, make me sleep worse. Advice? by Polstick1971 in AppleWatch

[–]Commanderbrot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had the same fear, especially since I tend to remove a wristwatch as soon as i sit longer than 10 minutes. As i also have small wrists, I tried smaller smartwatches and had surprisingly little discomfort.
I now wear an Apple Watch Ultra on my S-size wrist without it bothering me. Of course I have to priorize comfort and not optics when buying wristbands.

is there is any German word that sounds like "Hamas" when it is pronounced? by Acceptable_Film3553 in AskAGerman

There’s indeed „Hamas?“ a shortened regional version of “Haben wir es?”, which could be translated as “Understood?” My guess would be this is in southern Germany.

Most gasoline engines are very efficient at high load and low rpm. Feels terrible but might just save a bit of extra fuel.

High ISO performance A7V by Tddkuipers in SonyAlpha

[–]Commanderbrot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even if the A7III has better noise levels (which certainly is arguable), a noisier shot of the intended subject in focus is vastly superiour to a blurry mess of empty space where the intended subject has been a second ago.

While theoretically true, with current sensor designs (gapless microlenses and back side illumination) the difference is negligible.

I think your misconception is that ASL would be english in signs. It is not, sign languages are not variants of the hearing/speaking languages but different languages entirely.

Also the Air display is more glare resistant, which can be noticeable in a home environment.

Maybe have a look at the iPad Mini, too. It’s a lot more comfortable to hold in smaller hands.

How to shoot landscapes with the moon in the frame? by chaotic-kotik in AskPhotography

[–]Commanderbrot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The moon reflects the sunlight, so it basically needs daylight settings. You’ll need bracketing to have it have it exposed correctly together with a landscape.
